Hi Tharbamar, I have just concluded my home auditioning of speakers with the winner being the 706 S2's. I was deciding between the Wharfedale's Evo 4.4 and the 706's which both are excellent in their own distinct ways. The 706’s were just a bit more detailed in instrument separation and could really fill the room with music. Wanted to thank you for sharing your experience and helping me discover these B & W speakers . These will provide me years of listening pleasure. Many Thanks!

Hello. I have ordered bowers 706 s2 without demo as demo is not possible where I live . I will be pairing them with my old Harman Kardon 3380 stereo receiver. I have heard reviews that these speakers sound bright / harsh so one cannot listen for too long ? Does one have to do any tonal adjustments to 706 s2 for listening?

I terminated the Mogami 3104 cables as bi-wiring cables to save extra jumper money. I use spades for the woofer terminals and bananas for tweeter terminals. Such a way, the cables can still be used for single binding post speakers because one binding post can hold one spade + one banana.

I didn't know about B&W before until I wanted to purchase Bluetooth headphones to use with my phone on the go. I have tried many and every time I feel disappointed about the sound quality and thought there's no way to get a good sound quality on Bluetooth headphones. But when I gave the B&W PX a try, they're really amazing and have a great sound quality for Bluetooth headphones. So, I think I'll switch my home headphones and speakers to B&W and see how it'll be compared to Sennheiser and JBL which I'm currently using. I'll consider these speakers on my next upgrade, Thanks.

They look like beautiful speakers. One potential problem with anchoring them to the stands, though, is that the speaker resonances will now resonate down through the stands and could cause some ringing. This ringing may tend to localize the speakers and work against the speakers becoming acoustically "invisible." I had much better success floating my Klipsch RP speakers on sheets of acoustic foam. They sit there slightly cockeyed, but the sound is much purer, and when I close my eyes, I can't localize them in space. All there is is sound stage. Just a thought.

I got some and they are easy to listen to. Treble is maybe brightish but smooth. So they should not be too fatiguing with "trebly" recordings. Image is good cos of their low crossover frequency. There is some voice content in the tweeters and great image for non point source speakers. I bought some 900 dollar speakers and they have resonance and a hump in the middle (KEF Q150s). You will have to spent two grand. It's snake oil and you simply have to pay. That's what I reckon. I paid the $2,400 (AU) for the B&Ws after buying the 900 dollar (AU) KEFs. lol Cos l build speakers from scratch and NEED good speakers for monitors. Now my built speakers sound just as good. Blown away!

I am looking for a speaker that has more top end and that is more kid friendly (able to store on a shelve to keep from the kids damaging when not listening). Can you speak to the pros and cons of moving from the CM8 S2 to the 706 S2, or in general the sound differences between the 700 and CM series? More treble, a bit definition , what I havent percibe is harshness , maybe because my treble shy Naim XS . I recomended those if you listen at low levels of volume as I do. Enougt bass, treble, mids, dynamics.... the best I have own in this case. I have owned Atc Scm 11 ( Thin sound ), PMC Db1i ( no bass) , Dyn X12 not enougt bass too... this last spekers beat Bw in the precission of timbre, treble is more realistic too, but somethin always miss.

I don't if these were well run in, but I have to say the sound, after playing a few hours while I ran some errands, is just incredible! I'm using a Schiit Freya +/Parasound A23+ preamp/power amp with them. I'm using them in my bedroom, have an ancient pair of 804s downstairs, powered by an ancient Bryston 4B ST. I'm not going to try the 706s downstairs, but I can honestly say these may very well sound better than my 804s... One note, I'll never have any use for the covers, the speakers are too beautiful to hide!

Hi Tharbamar, I am auditioning a pair of the B&W 706 S2's. I am having a problem getting started b/c of the plugs blocking the banana port openings. Any suggestions on the best approach to remove them? how did you get your out? Thanks!

Hi Tharbamar, I got them out. I did it carefully with a long fingernail. Seems like the safest approach with little chance of damaging the terminals. I read the reason they block the banana plug holes is b/c in the EU their electrical socket plugs are the same size so they plug for safety reasons. Thx.

@@Tharbamar Hi Tharbamar, thanks for the recommendation. Another question is regarding Bi-Amping and Bi-wiring. Have you or anyone you know had any experience trying this with the 706 S2's and if so was there any noticeable differences in sound quality? I read in the B & W manual that bi-wiring can improve the resolution of low level details. BTW, I built two pair of your Mogami w3104 designed speaker cables with banana plugs at both ends so I could bi-amp but not bi-wire to the amp. Forgot to mention, the DIY cables you shared were a great project and a very good investment. I don't believe I will need to upgrade them ever! Thx.

I just recently got a pair of B&W 606 and I have the LS50 too. After a proper break-in I prefer the B&W 606. It's got a lot more bass, it can match the vocal quality of the LS50 and the highs are more detailed. I have no plans to dispose my LS50's though. The 706 S2 are nice but it's already out of my price range.

How to make knockout speakers from scratch that sound as good as these. Buy some of these and use them as monitors. That's what l did. My home hacked coaxial speakers now sound just as good... and they crank too, good power handling. I could not make speakers that sounded that good without my monitors, no way! The only way to be able to do it. So proper speaker building is not a money saving thing, the cost is still there if you want to make great speakers from scratch. But well worth it if you are keen enough. I spent the money and hardly listen to them but l'm so GLAD l bought them. I listen to my coaxials they sound just about the same, except they are completely point source (and a complete knockout). I made the coaxial drivers from separate drivers and put them together. How l did it, is doctor both drivers and done some radical acoustic stuff. I didn't just put drivers in boxes like most speakers. And used the B&WS to tweak my crossovers.

706: bigger. Bigget cabinet, bigger woofer. 707: smaller cabinet, smaller woofer, same tweeter. Tonal balance skewed uprange. That's why the 706 is balanced and the 707 is trebly. Perhaps they were thinking of multispeaker setups, with subwoofer(s) In a normal setup the 706 seems more appropriate. But other people may not mind the 707 particularly if they have a "rolled off" amp. (legacy, tubes?) If you buy the 707 you may end up buying a sub, which defeats the whole exercise.
