I partied with Guns N Roses backstage in 1988 at the Toledo Sports Arena. It must have been when they were first famous because they were almost like small-town boys just having a good old time. Matter of fact slash and Steven Adler wanted to come back to the big house party around the corner with us but their management wouldn't let them. Funny thing is is because I was only 18 they wouldn't let me drink beer. But somebody offered me a doobie LOL. But anyhow it was a great party and I had school a couple days later and we were the talk of school. It was a great time. Left with t-shirt and jeans signed and a couple of drumsticks. Nothing too crazy

he doesn't know what he is talking about. GUNS AND ROSES MEMBERS GOT WASTED ON DRUGS EACH NIGHT AND DAY, they didn't go to lavish parties The only parties they had were female groupies who fucked them and did drugs with them. All money was wasted on Drugs. Anything any tour manager said is just bullshit to cover up the sad truth especially after axl rose was sued by adler over drugs and being kicked out of guns and roses.

Axl was never cool. Only douchebags would consider him or his behavior cool. No wonder everyone left him for 20 years and came back to milk the cow again in 2016. I Never understood what was so great about him and apparently neither many others. Not a single soul who knows him personally said ever that he was a good friend or a great guy. He was and still the definition of douche. This is why Kurd wanted nothing to have with him or Mike Patton. idk in what frame of mind one has to be to be so much hated by people in person. Yes he was an idol of a generation of jocks in the 80s but according to all accounts- a real piece of shit human being.

I’m 49 and still listen to Guns EVERY DAY! I bought AFD Based on the cross cover. I had never heard of them in my life because it was in 87. I lived an hour from Birmingham, Alabama. Me and 10-15 of my friends went to see Motley Crue. Well they did, I went to see Guns. I was hooked the second I first Hit play on my cassette and heard Welcome to the Jungle. I listened to that tape nonstop from the day I bought it until the concert. Guns put on a super fucking show. They played all or almost all of the AFD Record and they mixed in HEAVENS DOOR. I still think I enjoyed that song all stripped down than anything else they played. They totally ruined it in the studio with the female background singers and the female flute players. I’d heard Dillons version I later figured out, but it wasn’t even a comparison. Similar to the Ritz version but they were much tighter that night than they were during the Ritz show. The people around me, including my friends just stared at me for singing every single word to all the songs other than Heavens Door. They were like how the hell do you know these songs. I ate it up. All I could say was if I tell you a band is that good, take me at my word. I became the group’s music critic. I was asked constantly if I was listening to any new music. I introduced most of them to Alice In Chains, and Pearl Jam. G n R had a fairly small cult following that followed them around like the Dead. Mostly LA people. Motley CRUE had to despise having to go on behind a far superior band that sang about things other than sex, drugs and R&R. Which was all Motley did. I’d seen them before and they were not even average imo. I had tried to tell my cohorts that they were about to see the next “Rolling Stones “ but they were not hearing that! But boy did they ever love them ! so much that I took a poll of the people in the vehicle I was in and then I asked the people who were stuffed in a pathfinder when we stopped for gas and beer. The same question.Who was better that night? One of the people said Motley. I don’t think he believed it but he was a huge Motley fan and he would have caught he’ll had he told the truth. Every other guy and girl said Guns n Roses. Several of us bought Guns Tee’s. Nobody bought a Crue button which was the cheapest souvenir they had. I bought a giant embroidered patch of the Cross tattoo. I took my blue Jean jacket to a seamstress because I wanted it perfect. I still have it. One of my favorite things.

I saw them on November 3, 1987 in Mobile AL a couple weeks before the Birmingham show. My friend and I were big Crue fans but I had seen the video for Welcome to the Jungle and he hadn't yet. I told him this band is gonna be huge and he just kind of laughed. We were both completely blown away by the Guns show. We were front row...and it was insane. I remember seeing Vince Neil standing off to the side of the stage taking in the show himself. That show was our Woodstock...life changing stuff. Little did we know every damn song on AFD was amazing. We both got the record and played it to death after that.

jim mueller I’d say passing away money that isn’t all yours to begin with, without the consent of those who legally share it, on parties no one but you want to have is a massive waste and speaking as a lawyer could’ve been grounds for a breach of contract suit, even by the label but certainly by the band-if for no other reason that the deliberate late starts. This was no different than stealing money from the huts’ pockets and expecting the, to not just be ok with it but be grateful for being robbed. Even Axl admits he was a shit back then. It sounds like you need to get the hell over it. So yes, the phenomenal, pointless waste of money (not profit, that makes it sound like this was earnings over and above regular pay-this was the band’s pay we’re talking about here) that wasn’t his alone to begin with was selfish, stupid and the world’s biggest fucking joke.

I think it speaks volumes for Slash and Duff who seldom if ever took part in the extravagance, and seem to be the ones who were able to keep their music careers going after the band broke up and got back together. Another thing about SLASH that impresses me tremendously is that his parents were well known in the music industry his mother as costume designer and his father an artist who designed album covers. At any time he could have used their connections and influence to open doors for him. However, he never used that! He made his own way. With his own talent. Not Saul Hudson son of So and So. Just SLASH! Bad Mother Scunner! Who could and can play guitar better on his worst night than any of us could play on our best day. And, when the man opens his mouth you're totally not expecting what comes out. He is Intelligent, well read, humble, genuine, and just f'n cool. Or at least that's the way it seems. And in my opinion, when someone experiences fame at that level with all it's DEAMONS, and overcomes them like he has and manages to remain grounded, THAT'S WHAT'S AWESOME! Even at the peak of their success he said "I'm just a guitar player in band that's doing really well right now." Love that guy!

However, I was referring to the particular "theme parties" being discussed. Which I believe were referred to by both as an unnecessary waste / expense because of one guy cutting into the profit before it was even split, which ended up affecting the bottom line for all of them at the end of the day. Payday!

Money maybe well spent. 20 years later I’m sure they are making their money back on this tour and they made a name for themselves and gnr name lives in infamy. Long after the music is said and gone and all we do have are the memories they are up there and will always be up their with their 70s party idol. I totally get it.

I just watched a show on how rock stars get ripped off. Basically they have no clue how much money they are making. They have all these for hire people who take care of finances, and basically give the band allowances. All these people who take care of finances slowly pilfer large amounts of the bands money into their pocket and the band has no clue how much money is being taken from them! It's a parasitic system, I think more bands are wise to the scam now. But I mean look at Britany Spear her OWN fam was taking her money, saying she was suffering with dimentia..this is her family!

they are like every other normal rock band except because of their notoriety their shit was put out there for everybody to see more than anyone else's. Trust and believe they were no different. And they are not the only band that did this with the theme parties or parties at all in general. They're not the only band that has done all these things that only Axl Rose (GnR) is being condemned for. Clearly the stones Aerosmith had some wild after parties... We going to point the finger we need to point everywhere because they were not the only band that did this kind of stuff. If you come up from nowhere and you have a chance to do something that you have never experienced in life, you can afford it why are you not going to? Why would you not even want to. and I am sorry also but slash talks a lot of shit for somebody who was one of the biggest heroin addicts of all. I have seen nothing but contradiction from him he's good at what he does but anymore he's thinks he's too good. He has now taken on the role that he says was Axl Rose. Talking out both sides of his face.

Well... If I were leader of a band and we were making such good bread performing, I'd be putting on a few such extravagant, themed backstage parties and expect those privileged enough to be invited to actively contribute to the social fun, after I and my band spent so much time, emotional, physical etc energy entrtaining them. So how about MY social entertainment, too? And, if band members were chosen as priveleged members playing for my shows and making big $'s they'd have no hope of making if not for me as yheir lead vocalist, then I'd expect them to contribute towards cost of putying on these lavish parties AND not find any excuse to leave early, just because wives/GFs wanted to leave early. And, yeah, OK to make fans wait, suffer a bit, create anticipation etc to build up their desire before satisfying it. Like all good lovers know... Music is a form of collective love making...

I don't get the theme party thing why the f*** would they have a theme party after every single show especially when it cost a ton of money I read interviews where they said they were going broke because of it well I have a theme party just when you're done you just made a shitload of money have some hot women back there and have all your booze and whatnot and relax for nothing and have a good time room full of women women hot chicks what more could you ask for why they spent all money all that money and theme parties is beyond me it sounds pretty stupid
