The man was living his life. He’s not obligated to hold a press conference to let us know he’s running to the grocery store or to the studio. Put yourself in his shoes. If you had chosen to be in a band for a living and that band became internationally famous, would you want the entire world knowing every little thing you did? Wouldn’t you want at least some privacy? As far as his looks go, he has grown up. How many people still look exactly as they did 30 years ago when they were in their early 20’s? Nobody. If you want immortal Axl, put up a poster or commission a life size cardboard cutout. Otherwise, let him be human

Axl wanted to be a rockstar. Do you think those six months when Appetite For Destruction was barely selling any records was a great time for him? Hell no, he felt he had failed in his goal in life. Having a biography made about your life during your down years is a small price to pay for what he received in fame and money. But mainly was it worth it for the respect that he was given for his musical genius! I love Axl and I'm a huge fan and I think he deserves his privacy. But you can't expect a biography to not be made of him or multiple ones about any period of his life. He is the greatest front man of rock and roll ever. In addition during his prime he had the greatest voice of any vocalist. And arguably he made along with his bandmates the greatest rock and roll album ever! There's no album to compare to Appetite! Long live Axl!

I always forget how deep Axl's speaking voice is.

He probably needed 6 years just to recover from working non stop from 87 to 93.

The 1998 mugshot of Axl, he looks near enough the same as he did in his Use Your Illusions days except for he had short hair and his face looked a bit fuller. It’s the 2000/01 photos of him when you released he changed so much.

@@jonesy2111 Agreed, I think he probably would have aged pretty gracefully as the dude is well known for being a health nut but I guess when you're that popular partially because of your looks the insecurity of aging and losing your youth must really take a toll.

Always a plus for me when a big celebrity/rockstar disappears from the public eye and keeps a low profile. The majority of them are hungry for attention and will do everything to stay relevant.

Interview about " YOU COULD BE MINE". I remember about the time "you could be mine" was released for "terminator" movie. I saw an interview with Axl. I cant remember the show or who the interviewer was. I would imagine, given the time frame, it was on MTV. The interviewer said something along the lines of," Axl, what are you thinking creating a song that has alot of high pitch, high energy vocals ? Are you not thinking about the future and getting older ? What are you going too do when you start aging and cant hit those high notes and scream like that anymore ? ". Axls response was something along the lines of, " I dont care. If i cant sing like that anymore than i dont need to be performing that shit anymore. Everything is about right now. Right now i can so i am going to do it." Does anyone remember that interview ? Or Can anyone find that interview ? All I can remember is, it was only Axl and the interviewer sitting fa ing each other in seperate chairs. The chair were sort of facing each other at an angle. Im pretty sure they were on a stage in front of an audience. The interview may have been right after a the premier of the song on television. I wish i could remember exactly what his response was to the interviewers question about what Axl is going to do when he gets older and cant hit the really high notes anymore. All im sure about is Axls response was purely Axl. If that happens it is what is and fuck it.

I remember that 1995 Metal Edge photo. That lady I believe was with a group of Motley Crue fans who won a dinner prize with the band. Axl just happened to be at the same restaurant and obliged their request for photos.

Best band ever and I was apart of the end of true Rock n Roll bands. Still my favorite band and music.

Axl was drop dead gorgeous with a bit of facial hair. He was very handsome and sexy when he was younger. His voice will have changed, and it's hard to stay fit, of course he is different as a 60 year old, we are all grandparent age, with all the aches and pains. I still think he's a rock god, and will always love Guns & Roses

If you remember back during the original GNR Online message board, circa 1999, there was a member by the name of Megan if I recall correctly, who was personally invited by Axl Rose to stay with her for a weekend. She talked about going to Disneyland with him and she had photos but she only shared it with her close friends on the forum and I don't believe those photos have ever surfaced. There was also another lady named Karen McNeal who was a regular on the GNR Online forum who was jealous of Megan and called her a liar. That same Karen ended up traveling to Axl's Malibu estate and stalking him. She was arrested and Axl had a restraining order against her. I remember it made the news. That was also around 1999. I'm sure the video is somewhere on the internet.

The photo of Axl wearing a stocking cap and getting his leg tattoo done was taken ver likely in late 1997. He looked so much like his 1998 mugshot and on his police report on that night he was arrested it was described that Axl wore the stocking cap.

He must have gotten some work done in 1999, because he still looks the same in the 1998 mugshot, but with Gilby in 2000 he looks very different.

The closest I ever got to Axl was when a guy I worked with at a guitar factory told me he had talked to Axl about purchasing a guitar and about his new album and this was back in 2005. I remember the guy telling me "I talked to Axl, that album is never coming out". But a few years later it did.

The picture you said was from 1994 , with the same photographer friend isn’t him ... this is a guy called glen who lives in New York & as many pictures taken with different celebrities . I followed the guy on Instagram . Definitely not that photographer.

He most likely started going bald in the mid 90s.... the only thing I would love to know is what the fuck was up with the braids hairstyle from 2002 to 2009?

looked like a wig around 2000 due to different hairline and texture although 99% of people would never pick it. The braids? I think he had shit braided into the hair to make it look thicker but it just looked ridiculous.

You are most likely correct. It was most likely done to make his hair look thicker. I think he looked alright when he cut the braids much shorter in 2006. But the long ones in 2002 did indeed look ridiculous

i know this sounds sort of counter intuitive but 30 years ago when i was young and trying to make it in music the main reason was dreams of making enough money to just disappear and finally have peace and privacy. other people want it for girls and fame and money to buy fancy status symbol items. but all i ever really wanted was to be able to live comfortably in anonymity, so i can completely understand that aspect of him.

i was in the cat club a month after axl n gilby jammed in the cat club on my holidays the barman told me axl just appeared and done two songs,he later introduced me to gilby and i got my photo witem,his band the starfuckers played every thursday nite in the cat club, the barman pulled out a photo album of famous rockers that had visited the cat club,bryan may was in it lemmy motorhead,traci guns and if i remember correctly some of iron maidens band members too, he gave me a pic of gilby and traci guns on stage,he was a sound bloke craig or greg was his name cant remember correctly,i still have the pix he gave me and a pic of the barman,sadly the cat club is gone now,its an irish bar,, but i watched gilby play with his band he was really good too it was a buzz to see him seen as last time i saw him was in slane 92,,,i only wish id been there a month earlier lol

If you notice both pics only show his left forearm. Which still to this day have no tattoos. His right forearm had the appetite cross. If he would lift his sleeve up on his left arm and show off his bicep their would be two tattoos.

Thinking back to that time, if there’s a blue print on how to blow up an enormously successful worldwide career....Rose definitely holds the patent....

@@bls8959 2006 was a great year. The band was killer, and Axl worked hard to get his voice and physique in a great place. His voice was amazing, clean voice sounded good, and he was totally capable of pulling off the rasp when he needed to, perfectly balanced. All downhill from there. 2010 was good, but I think he pushed it too hard. I'm convinced that he permanently damaged his vocal chords on that tour. He went full throttle 90's Axl for most of that tour.
