Yes it is, only good thing with it is the portals. I would rather see overdrive and diff control with a servo place for servo winch.

@@mandel4889I have this and a TRX4. I like the DIG better than having locking and unlocking diffs. For less than 30 bucks you can get som portal gears to add overdrive. It would be nice to see a place for a servo winch, but I am sure that will be coming soon from someone. The ground clearance and balance for the scx10 iii is great. Definitely don't write it off due to a few cons.

Thanks for another great build series! One of these days you are going to choose something besides blue and shock us all. lol. The few issues shouldn't be a deterrent to anyone who enjoys building these trucks as most of us modify things quickly anyways. The Capra and SCX10-3 are the only RC kits I have painted the body before building the kit. I LOVE the pre-cut body, and I got it together in one long build session, but wouldn't recommend that to most people. I would say it is comparable to the TRX4 kit in complexity. Axial use to have really good instructions. After the Capra, they have been super disappointing. Also my SCX10-3 kit was missing about 4 screws. I fortunately had extra from other kits. It seems we are getting some improvements in quality, but let down in other areas.

  • @TheRCNetwork

I can't agree with you more on the pre-cut bodies. I couldn't imagine cutting that grill out, let alone the other 55 holes. Also agree on the instructions. Axial has made a huge improvement on the parts quality and also doing the "bag" organization - Bag A is everything you need. If you take a look at older Axial kits, you had to dig through 3-4 bags to find all of the parts.

Noob here, you mentioned this was a difficult build - would you suggest I start with another kit first? Very interesting point on the single speed transmission that I hand't considered. I don't need something fast, just something that can keep up with me walking a trail (or sidewalk). I'm also looking at the Traxxas Chassis kit for reference. Lastly, I apologize if I missed it but does this have locking/unlocking diffs like the TRX4? So many features among the various kits, I'm not sure what I _need_ and what I _want_ . Great job on the review! You only made it more difficult for me to choose. LOL

If you compare the two kits - SCX10.3 and the TRX4, both are complicated kits, but Traxxas did a FAR better job laying out he kit to be built including the best instructions. Axial makes a great car, but struggle to have a well engineered kit and instructions. I’d highly recommend the TRX-4 chassis kit even for beginners. I a,so think the TRX4 out performs the SCX10.3. Take a look at my Traxxas videos, I’ve done the chassis kit as well. Good luck and if you have questions, please ask.

The Spektrum 107 micro servo comes with the last piece of the servo saver for the build - yes a bit tricky on HH/Axial's part, but you can purchase it separately. Others have just used thier own micro servo, and an aluminum horn with some modification to make it work without the servo saver - ask any of the MKS or Reefs "drivers" and they will have photos of what to do

The RCNetwork yeah we are at “stage 3” so all non essential that can not be done at home are to stay home. No real deadline. Watched a upload on KZread claiming the incubation period could be as long as 28 days. We have been running on a 14 day mentality. As far as building, I have some bodies to paint up, mainly touring, a heap of cars to solder ESC to motors (lost my different sized tips, wanted to use a larger, just found them, so no excuses now). Kit wise Schumacher L1evo 4wd 1/10, Eclipse 1/12 pan car, and the stock spec laydown (waiting on 17.5 Hobbywing G3R). I bought a Tamiya Clod Buster Black edt. Waiting on the Tamiya brand RC tool kit, with the funky Phillips’s head screwdrivers etc. Just finished a Hornet, just to bash (but it looks to good to bash 😢) and 4 Kyosho re-releases. Surrounded by kits and cars. We were going to rebuild our house but, COVID19 and where that takes us is so uncertain. If you’re looking for material to feature the Kyosho re-releases are a really nice build, and I really like the Schumacher kits as well. They are race spec stuff! Take care and hang in there!
