Kinda agree and kinda don't. The stock servo is fine for a stock truck. It's only when you start to add weight that you're pushing the servo beyond it's capacity. Most people have absolutely no interest or intentions of modifying their rigs at all. They will run it exactly how it came out of the box until they get bored with it and get something new. For those people, who are the majority of consumers, the stock servo will be perfectly acceptable. If you are the type of person who desires to upgrade and tinker with your rigs you already know the steering servo is one of the first and most important upgrades you can do. So do you want axial to charge you more for a servo you will still change out anyways? Or do you want them to charge you the least amount possible and give you an acceptable servo to use the rig out of the box because you and them both know you're going to upgrade the servo anyways. Whatever servo they "upgraded" to would undoubtedly still be worse than any aftermarket offering and you would still just replace it anyways. So instead of having a crappy servo in the parts bin you'll have a slightly less crappy but more expensive servo that you'll never use again 🤷‍♂️

@@SteadfastRC you have severely horrible luck, you're being dishonest or you absolutely abuse the hell out of your rigs. I've had 7 scx24 and 2 ax-24 and I've never had a servo fail except for one that was DOA and didn't do anything at all. Which was replaced in 3 days for free 🤷‍♂️

I love that they’re still paying attention to this little rig, I have two and they’re lots of fun. However, now that the 18th and 24th scene has so much competition, Axial really needed to step up their game and I just don’t think they did. The oil shocks are a great addition, but I think they really needed to do more. Thanks for the informative video!

Unfortunately they’re never going to have to really compete bc the entire market is already on the scx24 as the standard. Plenty of other companies have better out of the box performance but none of them have the aftermarket support.

Same weak motor and servo, and its minor but a body pin instead of Velcro. It'll sell because it's a Jeep but the SCX24 is way behind in the market now compared to other micro crawlers.

Thanks for the update brother. I turned my Deadbolt into the Gremlin. Still rolling the stock Nitto tires for the overall all terrain capability. It only takes a aftermarket motor and a Injora servo, along with a little strategically placed weight and the SCX24 is a beast. Way more fun to me than a big crawler. Happy new year.

Thanks for the review Greg! I’m glad to see Axial putting the oil-filled shocks on more rigs. I have all the parts to upgrade my V1 SCX24 Jeep to Furitek brushless, Pro-line shocks, and Reefs Micro 99 servo. Seeing the V3 factory upgrades I am thinking about getting another Jeep to keep stock for the kids to use. Love that green colour too.

Looks like the oil shocks are a little shorter length also not sure what’s limiting the suspension travel for articulation on that new version. Either way, new changes or not these things are fun. Any version just throw a little bit of extra cash and it becomes a beast. Parts are really cheap. Just do 1-2 mods a month for $20-$40 if you’re on a budget. My recommendation for any first timer for mods in order but doesn’t have to be is: -39mm oil shocks -weighted diff covers -metal gear steering servo, “EMAX ES08MA II” is nice and affordable, will need to mod stock mount or buy a $10 aluminum/brass servo mount to fit the slightly wider servo. Also will need to trim the servo ears at an angle for clearance on the chassis (stock servo is plastic gears and it will shred the gears in there when doing a lot of crawling with any added weight) -metal steering rod links for that tight turning response and slop removal -weighted beadlock wheels (injora has some nice ones) -tires (highly recommend proline hyrax, they’re well rounded for all surfaces for great grip and cheap for a set of 4 with plastic beadlock wheels included at $20) -high clearance links -and everything else you want out there! Sky is the limit and have fun! Injora has a $38 kit that has weighted diff covers, weighted steering knuckles, metal steering rod links, and 4mm hex extensions for a wider track/stance if interested. Thanks for the video my dude. Love the reviews and content. Keep em coming 👍🏻.

It is pretty cool. The new colors are nice. I think ill get the green body when it is out. As far as the servo and motor goes, a metal geares servo would be nice. Keeping the same motor is the best option since there are way to many motors out for axial to pick one. If they did upgrade it people would complain for not picking a motor they like.

Would love to see a V2 and V3 comparison getting in to the nitty gritty. My experience with the V2’s electronics were great. Just got this V3 and gave the V2 to my son… I miss the smoothness and sensitivity of the V2’s electronics… Would love to know if you have experience with that or if it is just my particular unit. Cannot get as “slow” of a crawl with V3 unit AND i was noticing the throttle was inconsistent or ‘looping’… that is, I’d hold the throttle at the same input, and the wheel speed slow down and then speed up a bit at a consistent interval (maybe every second and a half or so). Any experience with this?

I have a concern regarding version 1, version 2 and version 3, which was the last one they released, each of them has different electronics. Version 1 The touch is not as progressive but the receiver compensates for it, especially by having a second channel where without need to change control or other components can be converted to a brushless motor, easily and economically, then version two brings different electronics where the feel is better compared to accelerating the vehicle is more progressive but lacks channel 2 if you want to modify The electronics require changing all the components which greatly limits it. The control is digital, particularly I don't know how accurate or convenient it is. My main question is related to the latest version 3, which again changes the electronics to a spectrum and changes the control. Can you please tell me if this electronic also has channel 2 as well as version 1? Can this version number 3 also install a brushless motor on channel 2 without having to change the remote control and other electronic electronics? I am undecided between version 1 and version number 3, the last one that Axial released in its SCX 24 versions. Thank you very much for your suggestions.

With the competition clearly making some of an effort to listen to clients and 1/18th making a huge surge, I guess Axial has just given up and is going to empty 1/24th parts supplies and run the clock down on contracts. Then do the corporate belly flop and fold. Anyone else thinking of cutting there losses, and move to 1/18th rather than spending anymore on 1/24th?

Wow, How do they come out with a new version and do nothing about that horrible servo? Disappointing.

They could have made it better should of put proline tires on it added some sclae accessories to it as well Honesty kind of a waste for them to produce this

I'm not sure why. I want to even buy this vehicle in the stock form... since everyone changes just about every single part!! Why not just buy the vehicle in pieces from the beginning and save having all those stock parts that nobody uses???

Them servos are absolutely garbage. For the price of these (I have had all of scx24 models available) the FCX24 series is a better value. I've got he k5 and lemur. Way better rigs for the same price point.

I have a 1/24 Gladiator from Axial, I have a Traxxas 1/18 defender, I have a FMS Unimog 1/24 (1/18). Frankly ?!? Buy an FMS, you won't get anything better, Axial is completely outdated today.
