    This is a great question. So many say they are awake when they are simply spiritually "minded." They speak of being a better person, doing better things, etc. Awake people know there is no better person or doing. There is no person, only a single consciousness. Many believe this in the mind, but have not been it. You can't know it you can only be it.

    I love the long-pauses Rupert does after the questionings. I wonder that he first listen fully to what the person has to say and then he takes time to digest and formulate the answer. It would be great if everyone could exercise this.

    Most people are waiting for the other person to shut up so they can talk. This ego driven attitude isn't taking in anything the other person it saying. Rupert not unlike Ekhart Tolle or Thick Nhat Hanh takes the time to absorb the question, find his truth about the subject and give a true thoughtful answer.

    What she meant was that the feeling of frustration can come up WITHOUT the suffering, absolutely. As a matter of fact I think the questioner already understood that many who are awake have feelings that cause suffering like anger, hatred, anxiety, etc, but there is a disconnection between the feeling and the SUFFERING that is attached to the feeling. Therefore, you can be awakened and feel frustration but still be peacefully detached from the usual painful side effect of such. I would say that is what she was getting at; and I think she understands it well. Sometimes we go to this teachers with a question we already understand, but maybe for confirmation. She did not need to get the confirmation, as she already knew. I think if anything, she should take from his answer is: maybe the best teacher is inside of me and I can trust it.

  • @dabeezkneez8716

    @dabeezkneez8716

    3 жыл бұрын

    True. It seems she wants confirmation that the arising of frustration, even without suffering, is not invalidating the peace. Maybe she needs to hear that it is ok. What I feel is, it depends entirely on the viewpoint. When one's focus is being the 'observer', then one observes the arising of emotions such as frustration. Conversely, the witness may be so grounded in peace to the point that the focus is Not on observing the arising of emotions such as frustration, but rather on reposing in peace. Neither negates the other but each produces a different perspective of the same 🙏🏾. Frustration does exist in peace. Everything exists in Peace. What we ARE is 'Sat, Chit, ANANDA'. Ananda (peace) is our nature and yet we observe all kinds of emotion such as frustration arising so it's only Obvious that Peace and frustration co-exist. What does it feel like to be 'frustrated in peace' or 'peacefully frustrated'? It feels like what it really is... AN ACT. Just an act, it lasts only as long as you want it to and it leaves no imprint.🙏🏾

    So that's what I'm noticing. That I'm having these troubles, but I'm not troubled. I'm "struggling" right now with an exacerbation of ADHD. Having to learn strategies to cope in order to achieve anything, including self-care. And recognizing years-long patterns of behavior associated with this neuro-diversity. But I'm being methodical and attentive to what I need to do. Sometimes there are roadblocks that challenge my brain. And I get trapped in a fog or sleepiness. And medication has attacked me. But I don't devolve into self-pity or frustration. I just stay steady and do what's needed next. I keep wondering why I'm not weeping and maybe I need a therapist because I'm represseed. Then I allow that maybe I really am awakening.

I feel the same way although I see progress in letting go, needn't make my point, choosing more and more peace, and knowing that I am on the right path, the only meaningful path. Not so much matter. All it matters is share love and peace. The rest comes and goes. As Jesus said, to find the kingdom of God and His righteousness first. I wish you for everything to be clear and satisfying. Jake Miller then they weren't really listening to you, they were chatting to themselves in their own head and thinking about what they will say next. If they walk away, they are showing you that they really didn't have time for you and weren't being authentic anyway. Try to not to judge, they are lost in a torrent of thoughts and emotions. But when someone does listen, you know they are being authentic because they'll give you as much space as you need. ❤️

    Unless you have a readymade answer to all questions (which is okay for science not for spirituality) how can you answer instantly. Instant answering never made sense to me.Here the questioner is also addressed along with the question, hence an additional time is required before answering. It is not so much about thinking of an answer as it is about finding the right way to construct the answer so that it is beneficial to the questioner.Some teachers avoid this pause by starting in a rather vague place and let the answer come to you in the process. Rupert on the other hand starts only when he is ready with the answer, or at least the gist of it.

    If you're still worried about having good feelings and happy thoughts all the time or "bliss," you haven't understood or seen clearly. Ego wants happy thoughts and feelings. It doesn't really matter what thoughts or feelings are present. The thing that wants these experiences is itself the illusion.

    . Thanks to Rupert Spira for mentioning Ananda. It is very difficult to get English equivalents for Sanskrit words. The word peace is suggested here in place of bliss, but I suspect this would unbox a new set of confusions, for example like the expression “peace in Palestine” or “peace in Ukraine” etc. Repeat “peace” enough times, and a narrative can be formed around this meaning. This happened for the maya also when it was translated as illusion, and a set of people brought out their dictionaries and misinterpreted its meaning in English - concluding that that non dualists are illusionists… Some would say the word for peace in Sanskrit would be shanti / shantam… Currently, Advaita teachers talking in English do use the word Bliss extensively, but take care to explain that bliss here does not mean some extreme form of happiness, and explains its meaning in much the same way as RS has done here. If someone says bliss, so be it, and there are teachers like RS, who would put the word bliss / peace in context, and it is all good. Namaste! .

    I’m wondering if I’m fooling myself, I see myself clearly, I’m aware of being aware, yet I still experience disharmony and unhappiness, it’s not a direct unhappiness, so I no longer cry for instance, as there is this slight detachment, I see the unhappy person, from a place of peace (awareness), but I do not feel rooted in peace, I’m just accepting of all things, but mainly my experience is of detached sadness, not ananda / peace, so maybe my ego has subtly appropriated the no dual teaching. It’s like I now knowingly see my suffering, I’m not lost in it, I am not unconscious of it, I clearly see it, and I know my true nature, yet the mind patterns and so forth that the person is constructed upon, still persist, I now just get to watch the unhappy show of the persons life, it’s better than directly unknowingly being that unhappy self, but it’s still overall unsatisfying, it’s like giving in and surrendering to ‘what is’, yet knowing that ‘what is’ is still either dissatisfying for the personal identity or just bland and inert as awareness. Not sure if this makes sense or if anyone cares enough to answer. I think maybe I’ve lost my way, or maybe I just need to stay in this current present awareness more and trust in it, and perhaps in time it will become more established, or ‘i’ (awareness) will become more established within or as itself. It just seems the witness (witnessing presence of awareness) is somewhat weak, it’s too resistance-less, it’s impact carries no weight, it doesn’t care about any of the content of life, it’s cool with anything, the ego and identity that we all must use to relate to life in its form state, is stronger than the witness, the witness has no bearing or involvement in real life, it takes the edge off suffering, but it’s almost by suppressing emotions, I’m not feeling negative emotions directly anymore, but they are still there, being watched rather than experienced. Bit of a ramble, if anyone gets or has experienced what I’m referring to pls reply, thanks.

    Yes, this is a normal thing when you first awaken. I experienced it and I/Ego found it disappointing to say the least. It felt like what 'limbo' must be. I was expecting some beautiful, victorious state but seemed to have found a sort of flavorless, resigned acceptance of what was. Like you, I saw that nothing changed, except my view and it felt less than satisfying. It felt like my awakening just couldn't 'influence' my EXPERIENCE🤷🏾‍♂️. 😁 what an anticlimax! Don't stress, just BE with it. It will resolve. This too, will pass. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

    @@dabeezkneez8716 thanks for the reply (and the others), did you find this evolved in time? It still feels the person is running the show, but the seeing of all this (and even the mind patterns and what seems the intention of the mind to really want to stay anchored to this identity, I think I built a very strong identity built on a number of life events that i couldn’t really deal with at the personal level), a ‘victim’ identity really, but I can really see how not just the personal me but all others I interact with are so invested in their stories, how we are really all just products of our environment or conditioning. My partner is not spiritual as such, she knows nothing of non duality but she says in her life she learnt to stay out of the mind, to just throw all these memories away, discard them and stay in the moment, too much thinking is bad and I’m a real thinker. Yet Rupert is clearly respectful of this ability to ask questions (self enquiry or higher reasoning), so I guess it’s the negative thinking (and for most people these patterns run without any awareness of them), I was once just this identity only, at any rate I always love to listen and contemplate these matters). I love Krushnamurti as well, he had such vigour and energy and you can see his frustration at how difficult it is to convey what is obviously so simple and clear to him, humble and completely straight and driven to his natural life calling to help others together not as a higher being, I love how he says we are looking together. Tell me as well please, I have never read the Bhagavad Gita or other scriptures, did you? and did they support your journey to understanding? Thx

    @@jjjos 'I was once this identity only, at any rate I always love to listen and contemplate these matters'.... ' I love Krishnamurthi as well....' From your words, it is apparent that you have already observed the ingenuity of the Ego's survival instinct. How, once it has been exposed through observation, it reinvents itself to appear more subtle in the hope of escaping detection and hence continuing to survive. So now that you have observed the 'identity' you once were, the Ego has taken on a 'new SPIRITUAL' identity. That of the one who is a truth seeker, listener, contemplator and questioner. The Ego lives on in a new guise. The idea is that this 'subtle' spiritual Ego may halt the 'real' progress by acting as 'the goal' already attained and thus preserve itself. There is no goal! There is no search either. Your partner is right. Contrary to what teachers and gurus may have said, the search, the goal and it's attainment is not for EVERYONE. It is indeed only for those who have imagined themselves into this dilemma of separateness through deep identification with and reliance on the mind. For such, it is impossible to conceive that there are many, many people who do not 'think' as much or 'contemplate' as deeply as they do. But there are numerous common people who are free and have always been, they don't articulate it because it has never occurred to them that it needs to be said.., there is the assumption that everyone knows we are just play acting and we are not this body mind. This new 'spiritual ego' too will pass when you have 'suffered' it enough! The only way to move into Freedom is through Suffering. You have suffered each of your previous ego 'identities' UNTIL you dropped them. It is that simple and that difficult. At the end of it, there is nothing to show. It is a search to find nothing. 🙏🏾💜 Ps. I have read the Bible all my life since childhood and grew up amongst Hindus and Muslims as well. Read a translation of the Bhagavad Gita and also listened to Swami Sarvapriananda of the Veďanta Society of New York on KZread ( highly recommend). Basically dabbled everywhere including finding out the basics of the teachings of LAO TZU the Buddha too ; what I have gleaned is simply that, 'All roads lead to Rome' They are really ALL, without exception, pointing at the SAME thing. Whether or not they know it. I dare say, even Stoicism, is pointing there too. One thing though, is that Advaita Vedanta and the Upanishads opened up the biblical teaching for me so clearly as never before. Of course, all of this means nothing now but at the time it seemed it did🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

    The nature of that which is, of that I am is Wholeness of being, of being the whole that is ever greater than the sum of it's constituents to an unknowable/inexhaustible extent. Peace and happiness are the two complementary poles of the continuum we call Wholeness of Being. Happiness is peace in motion. Peace is happiness at rest. Ultimately what we are is a happy movement and a peaceful rest. Only exclusive identification with a part or fragment of the whole, taking it to be the whole obscures our inherent wholeness of being.

    Wanting to uproot the separate self is when the screen wants to sack a character in a movie just because it gets taken by it too much.. but what's the point of a screen without a play of any kind.. it is what the screen does:

  • @OmniaCrafts

    @OmniaCrafts

    Matija Strbat this is a really good point but as I understand it, when he talks of 'uprooting' he's referring to the IDENTIFICATION with the separate self, the BELIEF that the screen somehow still IS affected by one character in the movie. It's not necessary to get rid of that character in order for the screen to be free, but the identification cannot remain as that separate character...

    You've said before Rupert that words are clumsy tools. And it seems to me that you favour some quite old-fashioned ones... like "abide" for instance. I think many people ,including myself, have trouble knowing precisely how to interpret your advice to " abide as your true self" . How do I do that? Should I use an adze or a bradawl?

    To be blissful all the time, cosmos of awareness must be completely without motion. Absolutely no modulations, no movement, no formations. After billions of years of constant "movie making", the strong habits were formed. And after realization, there is the job of staying without movement.

    1) If I am eternal infinite awareness why does it feel I'm stuck in this body mind organism ? 2) why can I not feel or see what other humans are feeling or seeing? 3 ) Why is the enlightenment of knowing your awareness different from the " feeling one " with everything " type of englightement " ? 4) If what I am is unblemished inherently happy do I still " feel " the unsatisfaction of hunger and pain ( physical and mental ) even if I am conscious that these are comings and goings or appearances in awareness. It seems very dissociative to say " oh stop identifying with that " you are inherently happy whatever clouds the screen ? Any answers from the wise would be much appreciated

  • @ananda224

    @ananda224

    Awareness isn't stuck in a body mind organism. It is the mind that is. You can't feel or see what other humans are feeling or seeing because the mind is limited to itself and the body. Both "Enlightenments " are the same. Being Awareness is being one with everything in Awareness because all things appear in awareness. When you can truly feel that you are awareness you will experience that all that appears is that same awareness. When you are liberated in the state of Consciousness, there is a background of bliss that is felt within your being. You do not feel associated to the body but to formless consciousness itself, however, you are aware of the body. When there is pain, you will be aware of pain, but you do not experience pain. If you are liberated and are truly abiding as consciousness you will experience yourself as being formless. Being formless, how can a form effect you? Of course you know or are aware of the pain, but the knowing it is not the same as it harming you or effecting your being. It is like watching your T.V, on the T.V is a fire. You know of that fire, but it cannot touch you, or harm you in anyway. This is the same as Awareness, when there is pain. It is known, there is no aversion as to if it is good or bad, it is just information that is made known. Your questions all start from the point of view of the mind and not Awareness or Consciousness. The mind is the reflecting medium of perception, it is what creates perception. These objects of perception are then known to Awareness. Take the mind away, and there is only awareness, and in Awareness alone, there is no limitation, suffering, and others.

    How do you check that the separate self is not there when negative thoughts, sensations or perceptions arise? How do you know that it's not the separate self that wants to check or checks? How do you know that you are not falling in the pseudo-Advaita trap? Could it be that the moment you notice, and check, the thought, sensation or perception loses its charge?

  • @RobertBoyett

    " How do you check that the separate self is not there when negative thoughts, sensations or perceptions arise?" Sensations are sensations and perceptions are perceptions and thoughts are thoughts. They are objects. The separate self is the object that reflects and judges these other objects as negative or positive. Don't try to get rid of these objects, just simply be aware of them for what they are. They will take care of themselves when they are seen as they are. They all pass as clouds in the sky. Enjoy them, don't enjoy them. Interact with them, don't interact with them. Just be aware of what they are. Objects!

    greenJoker8 The question, as Spira says in another video, is: Can I live with these feelings for the rest of my life? The answear must be yes if there is only awareness. If the answear is no, then you go back to the feeling, you welcome it, you allow it to be as it is. You have to do this for a long time to get rid of the no. It's a process in time, as he says. There is really no effort involved. As long as there is effort, it's the separate self that tries to get rid of a sensation or feeling or thought. Awareness = Being + Knowing. If you are "just" aware, you "just" know.

    Nikos Batras "If the answear is no, then you go back to the feeling, you welcome it, you allow it to be as it is." What if I don't want to? What if my reasoning says that it's not a good idea? I could become too relaxed, too flexible, too open. My life would become too unstable. I would become too unstable. I don't like that.

  • @nikos.b

    greenJoker8 Don't trust your reasoning (the mind). Trust your experience. And also, who is that "I" who says "I don't like that?". Question the nature of that I. If you feel fear, then be aware of that feeling. Don't make that feeling yours. Maybe you have to suffer more to be ready to completely let go of the thoughts that say what you are afraid it might happen with your life. Don't do it because you have to.
