Avoid this common mistake in mid-tempo double bass drumming
Avoid this common mistake in mid-tempo double bass drumming
The reason you're stuck at a specific tempo with your double bass drumming happens for a few reasons.
The main cause of that is because of your drum technique.
If you're stomping on your pedals expecting to be able to play for longer, you'll know that's not going to work.
Do what I'm showing you in the video instead.

I've heard of this, I think it was called a "Heel roll." I first saw it in action when I watched a drum cam of The Rev playing live, his technique was impeccable I should mention I don't have any drums and don't know any lingo, so a "heel roll" could be something entirely different... actually, maybe it was "heel toe?" They sound similar
@TheJakePoole
Ай бұрын
Heel-Toe is an entirely different technique, meant to do double strokes. There are so many different techniques, though. I've been working on both heel-toe and ankle lately. They're both very weird to pick up on for an old "stomper" like myself. Haha
@dbmdrums1105

I think you meant heel toe. The Rev I believe was definitely a ankle technique player. Heel toe is something what Art Cruz from Lamb of God does quite a lot. I am also a heel toe player. I prefer using it even in mid tempos of 140 too.. It's less taxing to the foot.

Im an old school drummer like a few other people in the comments. The things people do with drums and even guitars now a days just blows my mind. Its simply amazing. I tried this on my old set of "Gretsch " drums and they said, nope, we dont do that here lol Im 56 and still jamming. But the rock has just about rolled away. Thanks for sharing your technique and talents. I'll keep trying. But I think I need to raise the throne higher to get the angle. But then I'd have to lower it so I dont fall off on the next song lol

Best bass drum heads ever Evans EMad, I use them on my bass drums as well. Aquarian Super Kick is good too.
Love that snare man, I have the un-hammered one and a hammered 10”. They’ve been in my collection for years. The 14x6.5 is in incredible shape, none of the wires ever broke, everything in top condition. On the hammered 10” one of the lugs crumbled on the inside. I tried to get a replacement from Mapex but they don’t make them anymore. I guess I’ll have to cannibalize one of my other lesser black panthers. Killer vid.

Dude, your snare collection sounds awesome! Shame about the lug, but hey, that's just another opportunity to make your drum kit even more unique!
Doing some judo and running I grimace for that amount of calf work for longer bouts... The lower legs get fried so fast compared to other parts of the body when you really use them. Since most of the days we don't really need them to work, just hang around moving without loading. Shoutouts to drummers, it makes all the sense why they're so fit.
Dead On...Exactly Right Sir 😎👊💯💯

How important is seat-height in this? I notice most metal drummers are up in the stratosphere, almost standing up. Does that minimize the leg lifting help force you to rely on ankle movement?

Nice. The life of the short-legged drummer. Your drum stool is too high, it should only be 10 inches off of the ground because you're leg- deficient. Also, a Fischer-Price drum set would fit you perfect. Totally kidding, keep spreading knowledge and SLAM ON!!!!!
