Avoid this common mistake in mid-tempo double bass drumming

Avoid this common mistake in mid-tempo double bass drumming
The reason you're stuck at a specific tempo with your double bass drumming happens for a few reasons.
The main cause of that is because of your drum technique.
If you're stomping on your pedals expecting to be able to play for longer, you'll know that's not going to work.
Do what I'm showing you in the video instead.

    I've heard of this, I think it was called a "Heel roll." I first saw it in action when I watched a drum cam of The Rev playing live, his technique was impeccable I should mention I don't have any drums and don't know any lingo, so a "heel roll" could be something entirely different... actually, maybe it was "heel toe?" They sound similar

  • @TheJakePoole

    @TheJakePoole

    Heel-Toe is an entirely different technique, meant to do double strokes. There are so many different techniques, though. I've been working on both heel-toe and ankle lately. They're both very weird to pick up on for an old "stomper" like myself. Haha

    I think you meant heel toe. The Rev I believe was definitely a ankle technique player. Heel toe is something what Art Cruz from Lamb of God does quite a lot. I am also a heel toe player. I prefer using it even in mid tempos of 140 too.. It's less taxing to the foot.

I tried to get a replacement from Mapex but they don’t make them anymore. I guess I’ll have to cannibalize one of my other lesser black panthers. Killer vid.

    Doing some judo and running I grimace for that amount of calf work for longer bouts... The lower legs get fried so fast compared to other parts of the body when you really use them. Since most of the days we don't really need them to work, just hang around moving without loading. Shoutouts to drummers, it makes all the sense why they're so fit.
