My problem I have with food delivery overall is that it's inconsistent. One day I may be doing great in tips/low-ish mileage/hourly average, etc. The next day may be completely opposite, but I gotta take the orders else it's a totally wasted shift. Those slow or high mileage days really bring down my overall weekly averages!

Tonight I was getting a bunch of orders for less than 5 and 6 dollars for 6 to 7 miles. And I refused them all..then all of a sudden I got one for 12 dollars for 6 miles..turned around and did one for 6 miles (My Limit) for 15 bucks..then one for 5 miles for 11 dollars...usually in my market place you only wait a few minutes in-between orders. So it makes it a bit easier to pick and choose...although my acceptance rate is only 20%.. but I still hit my goals everynight.

I love Door Dashing! I started in June 2020, I got alot of orders and great tips each day. I noticed the past 1 to 2 months in the area I live there is alot more drivers. I don't get alot of orders and great tips each day like I used to. My stats ect are great, we just have more drivers now. I've noticed I'm getting almost every day around 5 orders with no tips. It just started doing that daily the beginning of October. I still get good money at times, but it's not consecutive like it used to be. I've had an order come up for around 1 hour round trip for Door Dash base pay. The customer didn't even tip the driver that accepted it. The driver had to travel the other 30 minutes to get back or near hot spot.

@@YourDriverMike I can second this view. It's very rare that I get orders at the start of day and not get orders for the rest. I wonder if Door Dash "picks" people who it will give the majority of orders to for a day, maybe some algorithm based on how many they've taken already for the day and likely other factors we can't know, and sorts people into a pseudo tier-list. Only dipping into lower "tiers" when orders are declined or when proximity means it makes the most sense.

Mike, in my market ,, its mostly inner city driving with some highway IF I get longer trips to certain parts of market. For me ,, its okay to sometime take a lower ratio of Quote $ to Miles for a few reasons ,, 1st better mileage on highways ,, and sometimes the final amount being paid can be far higher then the bid. Last night being a prime example. 1st Order - $8 - , but I was at the merchant and I knew I could pickup an order near the customer and I knew it was slow being the start of the Dinner rush ,, distance about 4 miles. 2nd Order - $12 - merchant was 1 block from my last customer , next client about 3 miles away near another busy district final pay was $15 due to adjusted tip 3rd Order $ 10 - merchant was 4 blocks from my last customer this came in moments upon completion , next client less then 1 mile away , final pay $12 after adjusted tip headed back to busy district 4th Order $11 - merchant in the same district and client less then 1 mile away ,, rinse and repeat 5th Order $14 - merchant was in the same district as the last 2 but this client was about 8 miles away but I knew the bulk of it would be via a highway , and non busy side roads , and that on the way back I would be about 5 miles from another busy district , final pay $24.50 after adjusted Trip of $16.00 6th Order $10 - order came up the moment I entered the district I had planned to enter with the customer about 4 miles away , final pay $22 after the tip was adjusted to $15.00 7th Order $12 - merchant was just blocks from last drop off in a different busy district with the customer about 4 miles away at the far end of the city , final pay $22 .50 after tip was adjusted to $14.00 was going to call it a night ,, but on the way home ,, 8th order $ 11 about 4 miles to the customer , and it was not going to take me any further from home then I already found myself Evening $126.00 over 3hrs 42m Question , do you see tips go up post completion of orders ? My thought , inner city and highway miles are not equal , and you need to consider if the client destination is near a busy district or has easy access to one

Hi Beachdudeca, I do see tips go up after delivery for maybe 10% of orders. This is when after completion the DD app will say, "This order was higher than the $X.XX shown upon acceptance". This isn't necessarily the customer adjusting the tip this is moreso DD withholding the full payout for whatever reason (I believe to discourage complete cherry picking)

Took a door dash shift this morning, with the app saying very busy. Got first order within one minute.....McDonalds, $6.00, 11 miles. Nope. Next two orders were WalMart, both over 10 miles and paying under $5.00. Last order, Taco Bell for $5.00 and over 10 miles. Ended dash and took a nice hit on my acceptance rate from this total waste of time.

I often get a flurry of "nonsense" orders when I first go online. There is no way to avoid them that I know of, though Bently Koup recommends waiting til the last few seconds to decine. I think that the logic is that by stalling a little maybe some onelse takes the next bad one before it gets offered to you. Dont sweat acceptance rate though. I hover around 35%-40% and it's been fine.

This has happened to me before, this is most likely because there are more dashers in the area than then a number of orders. Smaller markets make it harder, and the acceptance rate doesn't matter there is a KZreadr that has 3%, its all about trying to make a profit and dollars to miles ratio.

Mike, r Thanks for this great video. Lots of thoughts and discussion points you've brought up. Today is Friday, January 28, 2022. I have decided that I want to see how my areas in south and west Kansas City respond to me being a "Top Dasher". Today I set out at 11am with a scheduled shift until 2:30pm. My intent was to finally get my acceptance rate up from 68% to over 70%. Is it possible that DD could see what I was doing and sent me every terrible order they had? I had 2 orders for a total payout of $2.50! Your classic no-tip order. Declined them both. But I was able to complete (only) 5 orders during my shift. So....I saw 7 orders, declined 2 and completed 5 in a few minutes over 3 hours with a total payout of $26.55! I never received an order with a payout of $26.55! Total CRAP! Could DD be aware of my intentions to become a "Top Dasher"? Why would they even care? I want to see differences in order payouts and speed receiving artIcles. Thanks again Mike! Dave Powell

I always multi-app. Yesterday I get a grubhub order. Upon accepting I reached up to do just as you said - pause DD and UE apps. However, I changed my mind and let it run. I arrive at "Five Guys" and receive an offer from DD for a restaurant next door to "Five Guys" , and I was lucky - it was going in the same direction. There was no negative effect on either customer and I made good money. I usually run UE, GH and DD....on the busier lunch and dinner shifts -usually 4 days a week- in my area I can collect between 50 - 125 dollars on each in delivery opportunities. There is a down side. You have to be disciplined enough to not take orders where a customer is negatively effected, it's tempting to try.

That is a matter of opinion. But I'm curious how you determine dollars per minute in real time when an offer is presented? I track 3 things simultaneously on my drives. Dollars per hour (target is $20), dollars per mile (target is $1.60), and miles driven per hour (target is under 12.6). If I'm on target for all these numbers minute by minute in real time through my drive I'm happy. But when considering taking an order there is only time/data available to think about dollars per mile. I take the amount offered, cut it in half, treat it as miles, then add half a mile. If the one way miles are higher than that number I usually decline the offer. And I can calculate this in seconds in my head. For example $7 buys 4 miles. I might do it if its 4.5 if I'm going that way any how, but if its 5+ I'm definitely out. Some people might call it cherry picking, I call it a business plan. If other people can reach their goals taking 5+ mile trips for $7 then good for them. I will let them have that order, but I need a little more to make this side hustle work for me. And usually I have no trouble getting it.

That's very frustrating to me but you start liking it at the end cause the tips come and surprise you 1hr sometimes 2hrs after your done. Doing regular Uber rides I would sometimes get a tip 1 or 2 days later. I know for rides Uber would send he rider an email and give them another opportunity to tip. Not sure if that still happens. Now I’ve been “top dasher” since July however it’s been a little interesting working in a market with less than 35000 people. Oddly still pulling an average of 120-160 a day in a super small town. If you got a small payment from the canceled order, then that means the customer canceled the order. If it got dropped from your itinerary without payment, it was reassigned to the next driver. This can happen if another driver was closer to the location or you took more than 15 minutes to pick up the order

I've noticed a huge drop in getting orders with Doordash so I finally decided to multiapp with Uber Eats. Personally for me here in Seattle, Uber Eats so far is outdoing Doordash.
