Avoid Johnson City, Tennessee Unless You Can Handle....

In this video, I talk about why you should avoid (moving to or living in) the Johnson City, Tennessee area...unless you can handle these things.
I'm a full time realtor in the Johnson City area. Being a military family, we've lived in several places but I was born and raised in Kentucky. Now, we have decided to settle down in Northeast Tennessee....And we LOVE it here!
Tennessee has so much to offer! I hope my videos show that!

Thanks for the info, definitely more positive than negatives to living in the tri-cities area. That's why I chose to move here from northeast Pa. Hoping to find a home in the Greenville area soon!

You're welcome! Let me know if I can help in any way.
I grew up in Gray, I've been around J.C. all my life. It's still nice, but getting over crowded imo. I live in Stoney Creek TN for 12 years, and it's very nice sometimes the occasional addict to deal with but pros def out weigh the cons.
Lol! You're the first person I've heard use the term "suicide birds" other than us. must be an east of the Rockies experience. We never saw them on the West Coast but when we moved to Kansas they are everywhere! We're considering a move to your area next so we're watching lots of videos about it. Thanks for the great content you put out!
If folks can't handle all the things you listed they pretty much need to move out of the United States because that stuff is everywhere

It's not where I live. Lol 🤣 Though I'd prefer most of those things to high taxes and insane liberals on illegal drugs. (SoCal). We have tarantula hawks and rattlesnakes in the suburbs, but I don't think we have nearly as many wasps as in TN. It's one of my biggest concerns TBH. I'd be obsessed with blocking off areas they would inhabit. I live in an APT and we've only had a few bee hives, and we live near a large mountain reserve.... But I watch for nests/hives all the time. We get solitary wasps. But if the building is maintained it's not a big issue.
With a crime rate of 36 per one thousand residents, Johnson City has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 28. Within Tennessee, more than 92% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Johnson City. Importantly, when you compare Johnson City to other communities of similar population, then Johnson City crime rate (violent and property crimes combined) is quite a bit higher than average. Regardless of how Johnson City does relative to all communities in America of all sizes, when NeighborhoodScout compared it to communities of similar population size, its crime rate per thousand residents stands out as higher than most. Now let us turn to take a look at how Johnson City does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Johnson City. From our analysis, we discovered that violent crime in Johnson City occurs at a rate higher than in most communities of all population sizes in America. The chance that a person will become a victim of a violent crime in Johnson City; such as armed robbery, aggravated assault, rape or murder; is 1 in 281. This equates to a rate of 4 per one thousand inhabitants. In addition, NeighborhoodScout found that a lot of the crime that takes place in Johnson City is property crime. Property crimes that are tracked for this analysis are burglary, larceny over fifty dollars, motor vehicle theft, and arson. In Johnson City, your chance of becoming a victim of a property crime is one in 31, which is a rate of 32 per one thousand population.
I thoroughly enjoyed living near Johnson City. It's a hidden gem in TN! It was beautiful and family-friendly, and love a weekend drive through the country! 😊 🐑

The Draco Family Crest next to your head tells all you want to know about Tennessee and is plenty of reason to not move there. Halloween has unpredictable weather? You have to mow your lawns in the summer? The amount of missing children may be an actual problem.

I've been living in the city for 10 years of my life so far. Today we got our first tornado watch in 7 years. Doesn't mean we're moving out.
We have roadkill everywhere here in Northwest Ohio. No biggie.
Born and raised here and it's pretty laid back. I was surprised that roadkill was even mentioned, cause unless there's literally none other places, I've never heard it was more than normal here. Animals aren't crazy just lots of hills and winding back roads that do have deer. The wasp and bees is probably cause you have flowers in your garden. If these reasons are troubling to you don't move here. Not intolerant but we definitely aren't politically correct

Lived here for 5 years and it's been a nightmare. No one knows how to drive, the Police don't care if you make U turns right in front of them. Rude people, like to overdo the hickey accents, nosey people, entitled attitudes not very intelligent when it comes to conversation. Don't care if they are understood or not their opinions are all that matters. Can't wait to move !
Yeah, I can handle that. Be there in June.
Cool video. Henry Johnson is my 5th great grandfather, the history and culture here is so cool if you take the time to learn about it. I live on the country side of the town, nowhere else I'd rather be. I would add one more to the list. Many people from up north have moved here lately and they're kinda rude lol. Once the get used to the slower way of life it smooths out but I hear 'im from state up north and this isn't how we did things there'. I reply every time with....you aren't in state up north now, you're in Tennessee. If you've moved to Johnson City and you're reading this, welcome to our slice of heaven. Glad you're here!

I live not to far from you in Claypool hill va and I lived in Bristol for bout ten years. Many years ago. When I was going to college up there, it was said that more homosexuals live in johnson city than in San Francisco per capita of course. I think Ashville has become more that way these days. I personally don't care who goes home and sleeps with who at night. None of my business.

@jamesrhoten3275 lol I honestly don't wanna know who people are shacking up with either. Just a rumor that I've heard for so long figured I'd put the question out there. Whether true or not this whole region in forgotten Appalachia America is beautiful along with its inhabitants. No place I'd rather live
I'm from So Cal but I would hate lots of cigarette smoke. 😢 But we wouldn't be out and about much probably. Lol We also really wouldn't care about Halloween. We are Christian so we don't celebrate Halloween. 🫣 Wasps freak me out also. I'm guessing that's anywhere in TN pretty much....? That isn't urban. And we don't want to be in an urban area. Barns only bother me if they are ill-maintained. But I'd rather have freesom than worry about that.
I've past few people after hitting a deer. No fun. every now an than a bear.
Don’t think those deer are native to Tennessee, just sayin’…
No disrespect, but a lot (most) of the issues you bring up are of some importance to some, but cost of living (not everyone is a “professional”)and crime are of great importance to nearly everyone. If you’re not feeling safe, what good are all the other issues? D’oh!!!

Hey darling, I grew up with country boys. Our definition of road kill is pulling over and shooting a buck. If you thought smoking is bad, lots of my friends dip and chew tobacco. Cutting grass, well that’s as ritual as going to church lol. Country accent lol. My friends would say, they talk normal and it’s yall that talk funny. If living in the city with crime and traffic and pollution doesn’t bother you, no reason for you to come out and meet well mannered friendly people. Not a single incident of road rage, everyone says excuse me, holds door open for you etc etc. It’s a 2nd free state. Doesnt tolerate that pedophile Hollywood shyt. Lots of churches everywhere. If you do some of that shyt with someone’s kids, they might not call the cops and just shoot you. How conservative is Tennessee? De Santis won with a 65% state approval rate. Only person to score higher than that was Governor Lee at 70%. Most of the people out here are pro constitutional rights. If you can’t handle that then don’t come out here.
Road kill is great here in Tennessee because we can eat it and that means you don't have to go out hunting. What bothers me in these parts is you hardly ever see a woman with a chaw of tabacco in her jaw now days..
