Avoid Getting Scammed By Coding Bootcamps

These coding bootcamps are out of control everyone. The problem with coding bootcamps is that some of them make incredibly bold, and possibly misleading claims that deceive their students. I have no problem with graduates from coding bootcamps, in-fact some of the best software engineers I've worked with were bootcamp graduates. What I do have problems with are misleading marketing pages that dissuade students from choosing another option which might be better for them. In this video we'll review Full Stack Mastery from Clever Programmer and talk about what to look for when it comes to reputable coding bootcamps.

    Great video. Honestly the part about learning how to code using youtube or free courses is a great advice, until you feel ready to make it a career you can start spending thousands of dollars, but If I'm spending 20k I'd rather pick Flatiron, which has a great reputation. keep up with the good work.

    Thanks, and totally agree on going the free route first. That's sort of what I did, except when I was learning the free route wasn't really a thing. So I bought an old book on PHP & MySQL from Amazon for $20 and learned that way. Once I realized I enjoyed it, I ended up enrolling in a 4 year university because that was the way to do it then (still is a good option today, but I'm happy that bootcamps are making it more accessible).

    I graduate from a bootcamp, had several interviews and landed a job. They are great for somebody who is computer savvy. It's a lot of work and dedication, but what you learn can set you up for success. Just make sure you sign up for the right one, and remember you have to continue learning after the bootcamp don't let your coding skills get rusty.

    Good video. Teaching people to make tic-tac-toe and simple clones in React must be quite the cash cow. There are options on how to get there, but it all takes hard work.

    Great content! I've mentored people graduating from coding bootcamps and as they embark on trying to get a software eng job, unfortunately the majority of them is vastly unprepared. First, they most often don't learn the skills needed to get through interviews (data structures, algo, etc.) since most bootcamp curriculum don't spend time on this. Second, they underestimate the commitment it needs to transition careers (partly due to marketing) as most think that a 3-6 months worth of projects is enough to get them in a company.

    If you're really set on getting a CS degree, I've seen that Western Governors University charges a set tuition per TERM vs per Credit at around $3600 - they say 70% of people finish in 23 months as you can test out of courses. So, that's still less than some of those Bootcamps. Personally, I like learning and would love to do a CS degree one day, but right now I want to focus on gaining practical skills and on learning my first programming language. Honestly, KZread university is great for that, you just have really focus or use a good old-fashioned book as a guide.

    i just finished a bootcamp and i agree with everything you said. definitely the easiest way to get a job is with a cs degree. in my class there are 2 people who have cs masters and they are getting interviews left and right whereas i have applied to probably 50 or 60 places and havent even gotten an email back. i was originally going to community college for a game development associates degree a few years ago but i dropped out because i couldn't stand all of the extra classes i had to take. in fact there were only 2 classes i took where we actually wrote code. in the game design class we learned java and the other class which i took as an elective that wasnt required for the degree taught us visual basic. so thats what i like about the bootcamp i went to at least. its coding and only coding. no english, math, history, etc... BUT as im learning its very difficult to land an interview so far, whereas my colleagues who went to college had/are having a much easier time in this process.

    B4 considering bootcamps pls consider reddit reviews And never go to bootcamp as a ground zero biginner. because it wont let you get what u pay for ,you pay for knowledge but they have to rush the study to squeeze it for 2 months only .so paying that much for small amount of time is not gonna be worth it Remember this when i say bootcamp graduates who is some slow learners, sometimes regret going to bootcamps and still have to review lessons as a self taught and never get a job after bootcamp. You will learn starting as a self taught and use bootcaml as a supliment of what u have learned Few good thing bootcamps has Is 1 colaboration to remote insteuctor or remote people 2 peer to peer code session Or group coding session will give you the ability to work with others 3 communication But if yiur good with this already Tou dont need bootcamps

    The whole premise of this video is wrong. Software Engineering skills cannot be taught. Period. Neither CS degree, nor any bootcamp can produce any skilled-employable software engineering professionals. If a person is able to get a job solely on the basis of these two kind of credentials(coding bootcamp and/or CS degree), then, there are following cases to be considered: 1. He is just lucky. 2. The company he is working at is a low funded company. 3. He is living near some internationally known tech hubs of the world. I openly suggest to people who want to become an employable software engineering professional that, it would take a human about 3+ years of written+oral English speaking skills, followed by 7+ years of human usable software making practice, to become an employable tech professional for the tech industry. There are no short cuts. School and College degrees have become ineffective, and Bootcamps are a scam.

  • @frasierjoseph

    @frasierjoseph

    2 жыл бұрын

    Completely disagree with your comment. You do not need 7+ years of working in human usable software (whatever this means) nor do you need 3+ years of written oral english. I currently work as an instructor at a bootcamp and have worked at Flatiron school as well. A bootcamp is not going to just magically save your career and get you a job right when you finish. It is hard work but it gives you the skills to be employable (if you work hard and apply hard). My students have graduated and gone to work (right out of the bootcamp) at Cisco, Jpmorgan, Honeywell and a variety of other tech companies. All of the jobs they received were developer jobs. I've worked in Oil and Gas, the USDA, a big 4 accounting firm and a startup all with just having a bootcamp degree. I suggest you loosen your standards for what you think is needed in the current job field and realize the tech industry is probably one of the most beginner friendly places to start. Just a suggestion.
