Thanks for the video, very clear but I have one "ilok" question related to it: I have a perpetual PT license (v. 2019.12.0) registered in a psychical Ilok key. I am evaluating if I buy a perpetual license of PT 2022 (the "$249.00 Pro Tools Studio Annual Perpetual Upgrade & Support Plan - GET CURRENT" offer that is available on my Avid account). So, the question is this: if I buy that perpetual upgrade the current license registered in my Ilok (the aforementioned PT 2019.12 version) it will be erased so that I can not use it anymore? I ask this because I have PT 2019 installed on computers other than the one I plan to install v. 2022 on, so I would like to keep that version current as well. Best regards!!

I have protools studio formally protools standard perpetual since the start of the subscription service Just got a email from avid stating that my annual upgrade and support has expired but they don’t say how much they a charging for this annual fee How much is the renewal I have a 14 day grace period Can I continue using it without the renewal? How much if it lapses and then I wish to reinstate? It’s very confusing it was much easier when I first bought ProTools 8 as a once and done Thanks

March 2022 and they still have perpetual reinstatement plans available. I just upgraded to an M1pro mac and this saved my Protools investment. Thank you for the heads up.

I also bought a macbook m1 max and my plan was to use logic, but logic doesn't work good with it. I've hear protocols does. How has it been for you?

@@MoromoMusic I bought a baseline M1 Mac mini with just 8GB of RAM and I've been shocked at how well things have been working. Pro Tools has been working like a dream. To be fair, Logic has been working pretty well on it for me too though. I just got the new Mac Studio and that's been rock solid as well. I suspect I'll see more benefits in the video rendering realm considering the baseline M1 Mac mini has been so solid.

Thanks for this video. It clears up some stuff, but I still need some help. I have a perpetual license, with the latest running version on my 2018 Mac Mini (macOS Mojave 10.14.6) being 2019.10.0. Just before making a blunder on my Avid account, I was able to download the dmg for Pro Tools version 2020.11.0. I have not installed that dmg yet. But shortly after downloading that dmg, I clicked on a “submit” button in my Avid account that launched my perpetual license (which said “expired” on it, but had some non-Subscription purchasing options available for $349) to the “cancelled/expired” section. Now, I don’t see the option to re-download that same 2020.11.0 dmg anymore. Instead, I see a tab for Pro Tools Studio that says “Active” until Oct 2023. And it has payment options in a dropdown menu. One being a $199 1-year Software Updates + Support Plan RENEWAL,” and the others being clearly marked as “subscription” for PT Studio (annual, $299), PT Studio (monthly, $31.99), and PT Ultimate ($999). I don’t know what button I clicked that launched my license into Cancelled page. It didn’t take me to a payment page, and I don’t even have a valid cc on file. But by the look of my iLok, I see (a) my perpetual license is still there, and (b) Pro Tools Studio (along with some bloatware) is also on my iLok, as of today, shortly after pressing that submit button. The thing is, I can’t tell if I messed up by pressing that, or if it’s okay. I’m really not sure what all these options in front of me are, as they’re vague. What I want is (a) keep my current perpetual license (hopefully installing that newer dmg will also be fully functional), and (b) purchase the upgrade to Pro Tools Studio, also on a Perpetual plan, without forfeiting my older versions.

That’s strange! If you call Sweetwater they can get you hooked up with one. They’re still available. I’m not sure why they aren’t posted online.

apparently now it's subscription only.. I emailed support and am waiting on a reply for my personal situation. Also you said it's like a magazine, but with magazines you still keep the old ones and can re read them lol

Hi GearCage, I checked out your Ultimate Perpetual license link and it looks as though it's still available, can you confirm that it is and I'm not paying $499 for an out of date deal? And is it the ProTools Ultimate software I'll br getting, or just the support and upgrade plan? Also, the Ultimate version that recently expired is from an education discounted code, will the deal upgrade from that version or is it necessary that my expired Ultimate was purchased at full price? Sorry but I'm literally so confused?!? The more I get into it the more confused I get!!

Hello James, yes as long as it’s still on their site they have them and that license will upgrade any expired perpetual licenses although I’m not sure they had an EDU perpetual license for Pro Tools Ultimate so do make sure that’s what you’re on.

Thanks for this. I have pt 12 and am looking at the reinstatement. Will I have to surrender PT 12 in order to reinstate my upgrade plan. Or can I keep it and do I get all versions between 12 and 2021?

No problem! Yes, you will have to surrender the license but I believe Avid Support can set you up with a prior version if you need it. Feature wise as long as your computer is good enough to run the latest PT I would just run the latest version.

@@TheGearCage My Mac Mini 2012 should be able to run 2021 on Catalina, but I also have an old 2011 macbook pro that can only go up to high sierra that I use on the road every once in a while. So it would be nice to have both versions. It's very hard to find a definitive answer on this. Even the sales rep I'm talking to isn't too sure. He even mentioned that avid announced that they are "suspending surrendering licenses until the end of the year" which is tomorrow. Haha! And if I try to do this reinstatement tomorrow, our pro tools machines could be down for a couple of days. I was hoping to just buy the reinstatement and enter the sku when I'm ready or at least until I get a new laptop.

I paid for the perpetual license but it doesn't show up anywhere in my ilok or plug-ins 🤔 I cant access protools could you maybe help ? In my avid account it shows subscription plans for 199 and up but font need since I've got the perpetual

Yo I'm currently having this same problem. I bought the perpetual license. I didn't renew my support plan and now I'm getting the same ilok message. Did you ever find a solution?

Can I still get a perpetual license? If I have a subscription can I upgrade my subscription to a perpetual? I currently have a subscription and I want perpetual

Definitely do the perpetual upgrade! That way if you choose not to keep it on an annual support plan (giving you all upgrades as they release) you’ll still be able to open the software.

Too much stupidity with Avid, #1 for people that Buy a license the renewal should be way less than for somebody that has only rent or renewal..and should not be penalty if you are not using a version for sometime and you want to get the latest version, either for rent, renewal etc

Protools is my all time favorite DAW hands down. But, Avid as a company is absolutely horrible! They only care about making perpetual money.

Would it also work from Pro Tools 9 *M-Powered* Information about that on google is confusing. Avid: works since Pro Tools 9 PT-Expert: not with M-Powered Sweetwater: works with M-Powered. Any Advice would be heartly appreciated ❤
