As a digital product designer and a music geek, I love your excitement over the controls and UI of this compressor. Somehwere out there should be a very proud product design team watching this video, congrats.
Mid/Side! 🎉 Version 1 was already my go to for general compression tasks. The UI and the auto gain function has made it a huge level up not only for workflow but for training your ears. Going to give this a spin tomorrow.
You rock! This plug-in changes everything. Just remixed a song that was giving me a ton of problems with the drums and the bass, and.. amazing! Thank you!
I bought it for the upgrade price, like $25 or something. A real steal. And you didn't even touch the eq/filter section, which allows you to shape the frequency response of the compression. This is by far my favorite compressor, especially in the sidechain. The ducking transparency is unparalleled (pun intended). The additional plugin states at the top make A/B/C..ing different settings seamless. You can go into mid/side mode and also control the channel linking. They also added a delta button. What more could anyone possibly want?
Check out their sidechain compression. With its spectral pixie dust, it's the cleanest I have ever heard. Duck the bass under the kick with no weird pumping effect. You can also really go crazy with creative use of the transfer curve for expanding / compressing different bands - even if they are below the threshold.

I'm very much a novice at production, but my major is computer science and I have to agree this excellent user interface design. Hopefully it doesn't come with much of a cpu hit though. Having a more interactive, informative, and elaborate visual interface does expect a lot more from the cpu than a static display with some knob pictures that rotate in place when you drag them. And gives the programmers a second item they have to try and optimize after they have a build of the UI that fully functions as intended to begin with. It's impressive when they pull it all off.

Depends on the plug-in and what features you are using. On my CPU - an i7-8559u - Smart EQ3 in full dynamic mode is still pretty heavy at ~1.1% CPU (0.5% CPU in non-dynamic mode), and Smart Limiter a bit less at 0.7 to 0.9% CPU. Smart Comp has never used more than 0.1-0.2% CPU for me, which is comparable to Pro C-2 with oversampling disabled. So IMO, only Smart Comp can be seen as really good in that regard. The other ones are okay for use here and there, but I wouldn't use Smart EQ 3 as my go-to EQ for every track in a project. A great and lightweight go-to EQ shouldn't have to use more than 0.2% on my CPU IMO. That's a great thing about Reaper stock plug-ins, they use about 0.03 to 0.05% CPU!

@@hearmenow909 Not that I use EQ for every track in a project (although if I had to I would), but why would there be excessive "phasing"? Are you speaking from experience or is it just something you've heard in a KZread video? You don't get any phase issues by EQing individual tracks of separate sources. Most of the time you don't even get any audible problems when you EQ several tracks of the same recorded source. If you would run into a problem you can always use a phase-linear EQ, but 90% of the time it's not necessary.
Hi Wytse, the Plugin Alliance Dynamic Spectrum Mapper has "shape" presets as well (a lot) but is far from user friendly. It takes a while to get used to it and dial in good results but I use it (as a semi-pro hobbyist) from time to time. Thanks for the review, Patrick Peeters

Hi, found you video and you channel and really liked it as a beginner, I want to remaster techno music from 90's... I'm very confused with sonible many softwares out there and if maybe can you recommend me on which to use? thanks
It was bugging me, the track playing at 7.27. I KNEW I knew it. It sounds a lot like Sister Sledge - Thinking Of you!. Oh and great video by the way.. I'm sold on this plug-in!!!
With its A.I. characteristics, and comparing to Fabfilter, Sonnox, Brainworx, and Melda Audio, Smart::Comp 2 has the most transparency between them all. What is frightening is the track the Presenter used as the video example has compression already implemented. I noticed immediately before the learning A.I. began. Once it finished, the results enhanced "TREMENDOUSLY" as if compression was not utilized. There was more perceived presence, punch, and transparency. This compresser is ideal for Mastering. The moment I heard how it sounded, I purchased the upgrade from its initial version. The Spectral Compression feature can be compared to Saturation. Even when it was implemented, it was clean without the grit and distortion when applying more drive, regardless how it processes the frequency spectrum. Sonible outdid itself. It utilized the concept of Smart:Limit within this updated version. I can imagine when Smart::Limit 2 is released. Keeping the processing as simple as possible is the key. Other vendors has been put on notice.
IL Maximus has this "shape" modelling for like forever. Also it's multiband. You should check this out.
What's the latency ?
Another comment... it was your video on Sonible's Smart Limit plugin that convinced me to just get the entire bundle. Slowly but surely, Sonible pushed out Fabfilter one by one. It's almost like a battle between contemporary, modern style plugins. Fabfilter are amazing, and they certainly set the standard for modern ui type plugins. But with the Sonible stuff I seem to get there earlier, and get more consistent results. If I go for a piano ballad it's easy to find the mellow, smooth, intimate processing you often want. If I go for hardstyle hiphop it's so easy to get aggressive and punchy and gritty. You almost wish like the companies that like to emulate vintage plugins would program their algorithms behind UI's like this. In the end, I seriously hope Fabfilter and Sonible, and in a way Izotope keep pushing each other to take modern style plugins to the next level.

ya... the sidechain, as others have mentioned is pretty much gold star stuff, if you don't want to create a pumping effect. There is no way to describe ducking only what you have to across 2000 spectral frequencies, until you hear it - or not.
I’m considering buying the whole soniable smart bundle. Can you make a video about their other plugins too? Thanks!! ☺️

I’ve found your other “smart” videos. Thanks! 😄
Without even checking out the trial I went ahead and bought it considering it looks like it offers some unique things! Even if just a great companion/alternative to fabfilter, I’d say it’s worth having in the toolbox! Excited to try it out on mixes :) Thanks for the tip!
