Throughout our time spent on the Aventon Aventure Step-Through review we learned that the Aventure is plenty strong to flatten steep hills and plenty capable for commuting, off road singletrack and everything in between.
The Aventure Step-Through is a capable all terrain electric bike from Aventon. The Aventure Step-Through comes with a 750W motor, 4-inch wide tires and a integrated 48V, 15Ah battery.
The price to performance ratio of the Aventure makes it a great option for any e-bike riders who don't want to be confined to one style of riding or one terrain. The Aventure feels like a more refined version of competitors similarly priced fat tire e-bikes.
We conducted a hill climb test, a battery range test, a stopping power test, and more on the Aventure Step-Through. By the end of our Aventure review you should have a good idea of the bikes performance, and if it's the right bike for you.

I think it has the best list of desirable components and features for the price. It has an advanced color display with a cool app, better shifter, 8 speed vs. 7 speed, and 3 volt charger. The only thing I wish they would have added is puncture resistance for the tires. The fully integrated battery is awesome too.

Nice review! I had just watched a review comparing 3 of the popular fat tire ebikes. Rad, Aventon, and Himiway. I believe they gave the overall edge to the Aventon and called them the new kid on the block. Sounds like they might need better customer service, but there's always going to be issue's with any brand.

Great video review! The uphill PAS, and motor only was very informative. I also loved your brake test. I just bought a couple Aventon Sinch folding ebikes for my wife and I to transport around, but the Aventure is next on my list for just me. I’m a tall 280 lb guy so that looks the way to go for accessing the trails near my home. I will be curious to compare the performance stats at my weight vs. your 110 lb lighter body.

@@bernievassallo3336 Hi, been riding my Aventure in MTB trails with steep hills and it went well. Also in paved trails, it's been ok. No issues so far. Regarding Himiway, my bike buddy got the himiway zebra , he has no issues with power and other mechanical specs. His issue is just more on electrical or electronics, he's having problems with the lights that needs replacement of a capacitor. He said himiway warranty issues is terrible because all parts will have to be shipped from China. Never goy it fixed until now for over 2 months, and until he now resorted to using bike lights from Amazon. I also don't like the display being used with his Zebra

I bought my Aventure about two weeks ago I totally love it. When a manufacturer builds a product of the quality for the price, It puts the competition has nothing to market against a product of this quality. They are left to attacking their competition's on customer service, it is the only thing that they left!! On the other side, customer service is about taking care of a customer's problem or issue in a timely manner. Waiting on the phone for a few minutes is normal. When evaluating a product i always go to the 1 or 2-star reviews and see what they are saying about the product. There are those who evaluate the product and showing what they do not know about the product. (product maintenance is not a warranty issue) In conclusion, If this is your concern buy from a dealer, I did. He assembled the bicycle and provide a year's service at no additional charge.

Suggestion: EBR seems to have a wealth of knowledge and stats from past reviews, why not edit in that information to give you context to your testing? "During our circuit test, the Aventure did better than A ($), B ($$), and C ($$$), but not quite as well as D ($$$)." Having that information on screen allows views to see the bike in relation to other bikes, and not in a vacuum. It'll give them the power to easily compare and contrast without needed to comb through hundreds of other 20 minute reviews. At the end of the video, you could say, "This bike did fantastically, and stacks up well against it's similar priced rivals X, Y, and Z. If you want to see the differences between those bikes, we'll have them listed below!" That way you can create traffic and viewers who have specific needs or budgets don't have to watch these long (and very thorough) reviews blindly. Cheers!

Le, thanks for the well-thought suggestions! We've discussed doing that more. It gets a little tricky doing that in a standalone review which is why we'd rather hold off till we do a direct comparison video (like our fat bike battle kzread.info/dash/bejne/gHaZj5ORp7C_dKg.html ). It's a double-edged sword making those comparisons in a video since it becomes instantly outdated when we film the next review. We know not everybody will follow the videos linearly from air date, and seeing us say bike A beats out bike B gives the impression that it's the best, but what if we then test C which beats out A and B, but you don't see that video? It's why we try and speak in general terms ("It did great on the hill test." OR "We thought the brakes were a little too soft.") as we go along since each tested bike moves the needle on our average and therefor our expectations. Our hope is to inform the viewer enough through the tests that they can have a little more knowledge/confidence in what they would get if they want to buy that particular bike. E.G. the brakes stop you from 20mph within 15 feet, the throttle only averages 12mph up a 12% grade hill - does that sound like you'd be happy spending your money on that kind of performance? etc. You are absolutely right on linking to others that compare a more directly though. We do leave a playlist button at the end of every video, but we'll make a better effort at linking to similar bikes down in the description and mentioning it during our video.

@@ElectricBikeReport The fact that not everyone see the videos in order is a good point. I agree that there is a chance that someone watches an older review and mistakenly thinks that a certain bike is the best bike around. However! I believe in your viewers and I believe they will be able to research their ebike well. You should believe in them too! In my opinion, adding information on other bikes will do more good than harm. Either way, much love. Keep up the good work! If you do decide to experiment and add in some stats, just add in the magical phrase: "At the time of this review ..." haha

I really liked your review of the Aventon Aventure Step-through, that's the bike I bought, I have the electric-red and I agree it is a really good looking bike and at 65 years old I like the step-through model, it makes it easier to start out and to get off the bike and I really like the overall handling, I think Aventon does a really good job of giving you a quality e-bike for the low price point and since I'm a veteran I really liked getting 10% off the cost and being able to finance through Affirm was the clencher, since I'm retired it would have hurt to have to come up with the little over $1700.00 that I paid for my e-bike back in May of this year. @@bernievassallo3336 I love my Aventure step-through, at 750W(continuous) and 1130W(peak) in go uphill very easily and for my area, that's a must. I'm down in a valley, with very large hills all around. The easiest hill is at a 25 degree rise about halfway up it goes to a 30 degree rise, the toughest one starts at 35 degrees then to 40 degrees then to 25 degrees 3/4 of the way but then goes to a 45 degree rise the last 1/10th of a mile and the Aventure goes up without a problem, it's only going 12 mph that last leg, but in very short order I'm back up 26 to 28 mph on the smaller hills at the top. I can actually get up to 32 to 36 on the flat, riding on the main road. But I do follow all speed limits, so if the speed limit is 25, that's how fast I go, if it's 15 mph then I'm there. The only time I can get to 40 mph is down hill, but I'm not comfortable going quite that fast down hill, so I usually ride my brakes to keep me at 32 or below. Yeah, I love my Aventure! As far as why I didn't go with Rad, is Rad e-bikes kind of look like an afterthought, IMHO and I watched several unbiased reviews that pitted them head to head and the Aventon Aventure beat them out on top speed up hill and on the flat and range. Thanks for asking! 😎

Thanks for the review with the alternate components! You said what I was hoping to hear, since I got the bike with the components you just tested. I bought the bike a little over two months ago, actually because of your excellent review then. However, when I finally received mine, the components were not what you had tested, yet Aventon kept quoting your review based on the the original specs. Apart from some sloppy packing/shipping issues which caused me to get cosmetically imperfect bike, I’ve enjoyed it. Considering its sub-$2000 price point, I do think they did a good job in putting it together. My one issue has to do with the lack of a torque sensor. This thing goes, so when I have to slow down for a tight turn, or if there are nearby pedestrians, I have to turn off PAS, to avoid a clumsy surge ahead. Also, many times there is a 3-4 second delay in PAS when engaging it. I’ve learned to ride so that feel comfortable, understanding these quirks and making sure the bike does what I want it to. Thanks again for the great review!

Having all those fit options would increase the price. Have to remember the marketing for these type of ebikes is not geared toward cyclist. They're banking on selling these to people who have no intention of actual cycling. The Group of people that think spending $4-$500 on a bicycle is outrageous. Keep the prices low can only be done by selling bikes with cheap components and limited options.

There is more speed and power on the Aventure. We haven't had a flat on either bike with a few hundred miles ridden on them between the two - that being said, the Rover does come with slightly better tires. Fixing a flat on a front tire is not too bad. Rear tire is a little trickier due to the hub motor, but it can be done.

Many of these companies are only available through internet sales and delivery. A very large portion of your viewers are buying an ebike for the first time. Of all the data I need to buy, those 2 pieces of information are super important. Thank you.

We have 3 or more riders test out each bike on everything we review and they are all at different weight classes - we try to make it a group effort to cover different perspectives. That feedback goes to the main reviewer and we try to cover it if something notable stands out ("larger riders might want more motor power than what they're getting here" type comments).

Anyway, it would be nice to hear how you progress through the bike gearing. Up or down in relation to the pedal assist and throttle modes. I've never seen that in Amy bike review. It would be very helpful for folks that have never ridden a bike with multiple speed gearing.

James, I've had my Aventon Aventure step-through since June of this year and I can tell you that the shifting up or down with the trigger shifters is very smooth, probably the smoothest shifting I've seen in any bike. I have a mountain bike that I built a few years ago and the Aventures shifting is so much smoother. I've been riding multiple geared bikes since I was 16 years old and I'm now 65 years old I've had everything from english racers to cruisers and mountain bikes.

@@jamestaylor9136 he didn't really answer your question. The best comparison that I can make is shifting on a bicycle it's pretty much the same as a manual transmission car. If you're at a stop for very low speed you want to be in a higher gear, (which are the smallest cogs on your cassette) as you pick up momentum you shift into lower gears to maintain your speed. The only difference to note is that unlike a manual transmission on a car you do not have a clutch so you have to make these gear transitions, (either up or down) while pedaling

I own two of these. They are great bikes. But the step thru arrived with issues, and both bikes were missing parts. On the step-thru, it took me six hours of work to modify the channel containing brake line and electrical wires behind the battery, just to get the battery to stay in. Almost six months later they still have not shipped the part. So while the bikes ended up good, the quality control and customer service was terrible. I would not recommend this company.

Howdy, Excellent review. We bought 2 Aventures based upon your channel's earlier evaluation of this bike. Aside from a dead battery, which Aventon replaced under warrantee, these are amazing e-bikes. We ride them on all types of terrain with great results and have clocked 1,200 miles in less than six months. @@bernievassallo3336 I liked the Aventon Aventure at first but even new it had issues going up any inclines above 20%. This wouldn't be a problem if I had strong legs but I don't do to tumor resection's that left both my legs mangled with nerve damage and muscle loss. Aventon stated these bikes peak at 1130w which I think is total crap. At most of say they peak at maybe 800w or poached even less. The Rad bikes and the himi bikes are powered at around the same range but their build quality is questionable imo but then again these are ALL made most likely in the same facility in China so take that with a grain of salt. If I had the money I'd most DEFINITELY go with the E-Cell AWD Dual crown Super Monarch 1500w ebike. It has dual motor set up which helps getting up even 45⁰ inclines! Looks to be a very nice and well designed bike. Because of that, on 8/16/21 I ordered an Aventure in the SoCal sand color in the large frame traditional style. The website said that this bike "typically ships in 24 hours". They have since changed that wording to say "in stock and ready to ship". Well it is now 9/3/21 and I still have have not heard anything about a shipping date. Customer service is practically non-existent. You have to wait a week or more before they return e-mails and then they tell you nothing about a shipping date. Yet the website still says "in stock and ready to ship". Don't believe it. I agree with the review that it is a very nice bike but the company is extremely poorly managed and can't deliver the goods! Why order it if they won't tell you when you'll get it? The red Dolomite is not the same frame as the normal blue Dolomite kzread.infoUgkxTGiBQEtJDzdz-_LjtY9HyQZPzkg6s_L9 it seems to be a Hitch with Dolomite stickers and solid rims. This isn't an issue unless you are counting on the wider tire clearance of the original Dolomite. This can be hard to tell given the angle of the pics, especially on a smaller screen. The red version does have the welded seat lock of the newer Malus. If the red color is important and you're going to be doing the basic upgrades popularized on the biking forums and KZread; you would probably be better off buying a Hitch, getting the lighter wheels, and saving a little money. We ordered a blue and a red one and both of the bikes needed grease in the bottom brackets, hubs, and stems. No matter what, these are a great introduction to fat bikes and wrenching your own stuff at this price point.

However, this is a hulk of a bike and awesome and for the $2K price point, it really rocks compared to other big brands like Trek, Specialized etc whose bikes are $3K+ range. Good reason I picked this brand aside from the quality, features and WWII vintage motorcycle look is that my local bike shop carries this brand. I did an internet purchase on Aventon and had it shipped to dealer to assemble. I'm more than capable to do the assembly, but those since I'm new to eBikes, thought it would be a good idea to build a relationship with a local bike shop in case of future issues.

When you compare them to Trek and specialized those are going through dealerships which have to also make a profit but also the components used on those bikes are substantially higher such as German-made mid drive motors, with TORQUE sensing peddling which is more like a real bike than cadence sensor which is much cheaper and mostly what you'll find on all of these Chinese made bikes, better brakes, rims, tires, Even the suspension forks on Sub 2k bikes are not made for real OFF road activity. TREK and specialized come with full suspension...etc and Substantially upgraded forks. just the equipment in general Is of a higher standard on those..... And many times they are (substantially) lighter in weight than AVENTON and other sub 2k bikes. if you notice, none of these direct to consumer ebikes are really tested in any sort of way on a mountain bike riding with harsh terrain. those other brands you mention are made for (much) tougher and rugged conditions.. These are just glorified commuter or leisure exercise riding for fun with a little dirt a gravel under you that can also work OK on the street but they should be compared to any of the bikes you've mentioned with cost being the comparison... One great Feature that I do think a lot of these Chinese bikes have is thumb throttle assist.. Depending on your age and health, this could be a big asset to you.

Step-throughs ≠ girls bike. Most of the EBR staff if given the choice of high step or step-through frames would take step-throughs on most any bike except for eMTBs.

Nice guy great review but look down a few of these comments and you’ll read the same thing I mentioned a while back I gave these people 5000 some odd dollars for two bikes and a bunch of extras and they could not give me a shipping date they Hampden hard gave me kind of a roundabout answer and I asked him to give me a positive answer after I waited almost a month then I asked for my money back and we got it back there was no issue but they have just the worst rating the worst for anybody with customer relations or when there’s an issue I’ve read all of their negative comments not to look for negative information but to write off little nuts and bolts issues or a little ding or a scratch I can live at all that you Can’t get the bike great review you just can’t get the bike and no one’s talking to you not a good company so this is just a ghost review trust me it’s a ghost review

This is probably the biggest downfall of these cheaper ebikes, range. I'm 62 years old and by no means a professional cyclist just an enthusiast and I can maintain 12 mph on a none ebike within the range limits of these ebikes using minimum pedal assist. The biggest difference being once I hit the 50 mile mark and the battery dies I don't have a 70+ pound bike that I have to try to propel. Problem is these bikes don't have true pedal assist. The cadence sensors are nothing more than a on off switch with no relationship to how fast you're actually peddling. The so called pedal assist levels are nothing more than a preset throttle. Then again this level of ebike isn't really made for cyclist so to each their own.

I posted an honest review of my experience with Aventon on this site and it was deleted. I only posted the truth about haw bad the customer service is that i have experienced. my bike has been down for over 42 days. I did not use any foul language or insults. i only stated the facts which i have emails to back up my facts. Again, why was my post deleted? Don't you want your viewers to know the truth?

David, I just checked the comments and didn't see your review that you're talking about. Are you sure it was posted to our review at electricbikereport.com? As long as no spam or harmful/offensive words are used then all comments should come through. You're welcome to post it again if you like.

@@ElectricBikeReport yes it was posted. i have been adding updates as i have been going thru this horrible customer service nightmare. i updated it, hit save and it posted. i left your site. went back and it was gone. I will be re-posting because i believe it is important potential buyers to know the truth about the companies whose bikes are being reviewed. Y'all do a good job on your reviews but that is only half the story. All bikes will have some issue, it is the CS that determines if it is actually a good purchase.

Your battery will fall out on the Aventure. Your brakes will squeal. Your battery button will mal function. Your PAS sensor will fail. QC is no longer existent on any Aventon ebike.

I don't understand how you save trees by cutting carbon dioxide because trees Breathe CO2 . So by cutting CO2 your making the planet less green. Other than that I Love my Adventon Aventure 2 !

Better in some ways, but not without it's drawbacks. Hub motors and middrives have their own set of pros and cons. Depends on what you want out of an e-bike which is best for your situation.
