Something interesting to note is that getting boiled in oil was a legit death sentence in feudal Japan. It's most famously known to be how the legendary thief Ishikawa Goemon got executed. But what was even more messed up about it was that his own son (who had nothing to do with his father's crimes, afaik) was forced to die alongside him..... I mean, _damn._ 😟

That Avatar Kyoshi scene goes soooo hard!!! And sometimes I forget that Uncle Iroh's speech to Zuko is in this episode. "Hope is something you give to yourself"

You know, it kinda sucks that avatar Kyoshis response to a dictator (who shes supposed to prevent) who conquered 99% of the nation was to run away. Like she got completely lucky that that dude was stubborn and didn't move.

The avatar is strictly responsible for maintaining balance. That may or may not necessarily include conflicts within a kingdom. Probably depends on the specific avatar's interpretation.

Just based on what she tells Aang in the finale, I think it is implied she would have stopped him after separating Kyoshi Island if he hadn't fell to his death.

Agreed, though I kind of like that despite being the Avatar, each one has their own desires and characteristics which can make them stand apart and the Avatar isn't purely a beacon of virtue.

Fun fact: Kyoshi died at 230 freaking years old. A true mad woman

i recommend the Kiyoshi novels if you haven't already read them. Kiyoshi was taught the key to eternal youth and immortality. She stayed young and could have lived forever but voluntarily gave up her life to continue the avatar cycle.

Kyoshi being the strongest avatar is just a fans thing, never said or implied in any official material There is no real mention of who the strongest avatar was however, since the avatar state gives them the knowledge and experience of all previous avatars one can conclude that each avatar at their peak is stronger than all previous ones

16:18 It's argued, but it's probably between Yang-chen and Kiyoshi. That being said, the Avatar's do stack, and we don't know exactly how powerful adult Aang is, though he should logically be the strongest with all avatar's power and knowledge. Korra doesn't have that.
