‘Avalanche of complaints’ issued to university professor over abortion research

University of Adelaide Professor of Law Dr Joanna Howe says activists outside of the university are “weaponising the complaints mechanism” against her.
Ms Howe told Sky News host Danica De Giorgio that pro-abortion activists have launched an “avalanche of complaints” to Adelaide University regarding her views on abortion.
“What they are doing is seeking to get me cancelled.”

It is a myth that women are using abortion as a method of birth control. In fact, half of all women getting abortions report that contraception was used during the month they became pregnant. Some of these couples had used the method improperly; some had forgotten or neglected to use it on the particular occasion they conceived; and some had used a contraceptive that failed. No contraceptive method prevents pregnancy 100% of the time. If abortion were used as a primary method of birth control, a typical woman would have at least two or three pregnancies per year -- 30 or more during her lifetime. In fact, most women who have abortions have had no previous abortions (52%) or only one previous abortion (26%)5. Considering that most women are fertile for over 30 years, and that birth control is not perfect, the likelihood of having one or two unintended pregnancies is very high.

Try just saying “No” or if you cant do that be more responsible and use the contraception that is available (not abortion) and if that fails, perhaps there are couples out there who are desperate to adopt a child and cant because young women are getting abortions…which today after that baby takes a breath…is murder. These babies that are full term and are being left to die are just being killed, there is no other way to think of this. If you are not full term, think of the baby, this child has a right too. If you dont want to be responsible for the child, adopt so someone who cant have children can have a child.

Heartless... well it's the women who get the abortions. Are they being forced to have them? Why, oh why don't they do their best to avoid getting pregnant in the first place if they don't want children? Why don't they want to look after their own babies when they do get pregnant? They have created life & they (with the father) are responsible for it, not anyone else. It's never been easier to avoid getting pregnant in the history of the western world. So why are all these abortions are still necessary? All this accepts that there are genuine cases where women have no choice in becoming pregnant ie. rape, preventive measures haven't worked etc., but these account for vastly less than the number of abortions being performed.

Meanwhile here in New Zealand: March 18th 2020, the day before Jacinda Ardern announced the ‘alert level’ Covid-19 response system - New Zealand MPs have introduced the most extreme abortion law in the world after the Abortion Legislation Bill passed its third reading in Parliament. Abortion will now be available de facto on-demand, for any reason, up to birth. Sex-selective abortion will be legalised. The current 20 week limit for disability-selective abortion will be scrapped and abortion will be available up to birth for disabilities including cleft lip, club foot and Down syndrome. There will be no requirement that a doctor must be involved with providing an abortion. There will be no legal requirement that babies born alive after a ‘failed’ abortion are given medical support. There will be no legal requirement that pain relief be given to babies being aborted between 20 weeks and birth. There will be no legal restrictions on controversial methods of abortion such as intact dilation and extraction abortions (also known as partial-birth abortions). Polling shows that the new law is strongly opposed by the public in New Zealand and in particular by women, with only 2% of women supporting abortion being available on-demand up to birth, 93% of women opposing sex-selective abortion being legal and 94% of women supporting the current legal standards for abortion providers and premises. The bill passed by 68 votes to 51 - a much narrower margin than at the first and second reading. The new law will mean that New Zealand has the most extreme abortion law in the world.
