"Avalanche" | Cloud Effect | Acrylic Pour Art (Plus, Super Cheap DIY Frame For Canvases)

I decided to try out MelyD's cloud effect acrylic pour method, and I'm so pleased with my first attempt!
Also, I prefer the look of framed canvas art, but floater frames for 1.5-inch gallery wrapped canvases can be expensive. I've seen them anywhere from $30 to $50. So I decided to make a very simple DIY frame that mimics the look of a floater frame at a fraction of the cost. This frame can be made out of one 1" x 2" x 8' pre-primed finger joint board, which costs less than $4.
COLORS USED:
Liquitex Basics:
Phthalocyanine Blue (with a drop of Artists Loft Mars Black)
Turquoise Blue
Rose Pink
Deep Violet (with a drop of Artists Loft Mars Black)
Golden, Iridescent Gold (Fine)
Decoart Americana Satin Enamel, Pure White
Artists Loft, Titanium White
All colors except the gold were mixed 2 parts Floetrol, 1 part paint, with a tiny bit of water mixed in.
The Iridescent Gold was mixed 1:1 with Floetrol, no water.
The white mixture was about 4 parts Artists Loft Titanium White and 1 part Decoart Satin Enamel Pure White. I mixed that first and then added the Floetrol.

It feels alive. I printed on of your Friday prints a while ago. I love it. I respect your talent. I'm going to get my husband to watch this and make a frame for me. Thank you.

Fantastic! I love it. May I ask what size nails in the nail gun did you use and does the nail gun run on electric? Many thanks Lisa

Wonderful tutorial! Did you use resin on the top after it was dry? And do you prefer gloss white paint for your frames or use “what’s on hand”? The thing about acrylic pour...it’s like an ink blot. Everyone sees something different. I thought this one looked like deep space to me; a cloud on a cold, cold planet. And I liked it with the red area on the bottom right. But it’s wonderful no matter what!😀

I didn't resin this one, but I probably will resin any future paintings. I just love that high gloss finish. For frames, I generally use my trim paint, which is Behr Polar Bear in a satin finish. I like to topcoat frames with General Finishes High Performance Topcoat in a matte finish, which is actually more of a satin finish.
