On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you enjoy war thunder or Microsoft flight simulator 2020 or even dogfighting in Battlefield 2042, consider getting yourself into Digital Combat Simulator by Eagle Dynamics, the Combat side of Aviation with the BVR and Dogfights really provides a different and interesting perspective on aviation. You can fly all kinds of combat aircraft including the F-16, F-15, F-14, JF-17, Su-27, Mig-29, Mirage and the F-18 Hornet along with many other aircraft and helicopters like the Ka-50 and Mi-8.

Thanks for watching guys, Much Love.

Everything starts as soon as the F-35s notice them, which should be very close. The MiGs are of course trying to get as close as possible before switching radars on and engaging. Sea harrier, and AV8B pretty much brought the design to the end of its rope. Harrier's limitations weren't avionics - it was physics. Only so much could be done with the form factor the pegasus engine and nozzle system required. And without afterburners and an area ruled fuselage - she'd never be able to really compete in a fight with aircraft like the SU27 or Mig 29. As we saw here - she could make a pretty good accounting of herself - but she just doesn't have the chuff to be a true "multi role" fighter. Even today - she is still a pretty potent attack aircraft, but a fighter -she is not. Sure, you could hang Aim9x on her and cobble togeather a HMD system for her... and make her REALLY nasty in a merge... but she'd still be Fox3 bait.

In this (and several other videos) I would urge a change of tactics - when he STARTS to pull away in the deck rate fight immediately turn the opposite way to create a one circle. While he is still at your one or two o'clock. Just waiting for him to outrate you and hoping you can VIFF is so passive. It's not just in the Harrier, it's in so many planes. You just wait to be outrated instead of turning hard the opposite way. And especially in the Mirage vs F-16, if he's rating right, pull hard left and give him something to worry about.

I'm guessing that turning the opposite way will not work. Reversing the turn loses energy. The F-16, with more energy, will come around the 1 circle faster and take a high-aspect shot. I think there's no escape from a plane that rates faster, when you're on the deck.

Gotta use combat thrust and bite with the nozzles in turns to decrease turn radius (pull the stick, put a bit of nozzles, then release and put nozzles aft, rinse and repeat). Heavy viffing like you do is bleeding energy that is not that easily reacquired, I would advise fighting a bit more in a conventional way and trapping the viper into doing high aspect shots and then going into rolling scissors. After a few boom and zooming failed passes most pilots become impatients and do mistakes that you can exploit. Still, Dogfighting alone in the harrier is hard. Doing ACM with a buddy and coordinating with him can be very fun and quite effective though. Anyway, looks like you had a lot of fun :)

Similarly although the FAA Sea Harriers were equiped with AIM9Ls (taken and replaced/stolen from NATO stocks) none of the shots were outside of the AIM9J's parameters. Lucky viper in the first fight! Regarding the gun not firing when nozzles are down, the only reason I can think of this happening is because the gun is not getting enough air pressure to spin it since the engine RCS butterfly valve is open and the RCS pitch/roll/yaw valves are bleeding due to the maneuvering. The engine RCS butterfly valve is fully open when the nozzles are at or past 30 degrees. But there is no system setting that stops the gun fining if the nozzles are lowered.

of course they never did. Far from home with few replaceable parts to spare, vectoring was the risky proposition and unlike the Harrier II from US Marine. British Sea Harrier , vectoring the nozzle are only for take off and landing procedure ( you know British before ) they want their equipment come out and return in one piece like a fancy way. Unlike now they can always say "Don't worry about it" even though they lost some F-35 on their Carrier during Military Joint Exercise
