Autumn Walks with Friends - orphaned albino elephant calf Khanyisa's morning with the Jabulani Herd.

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

The warm and colourful autumn leaves framed much of Khanyisa's walk with the herd beautifully.
The day started with a short "hello" session in the stables area, and Khanyisa could not resist the urge to play with Timisa from the moment she saw her! It is great to see how Khanyisa jostles with her with such confidence.
Khanyisa spent lots of her time in the bush with Kumbura and Timisa (two orphans adopted by the herd). She seems to prefer to suckle mostly from Bubi recently, though she still looks to Lundi for a lot of comfort and protection, never leaving her side when they take walks.
It has been two months now since we started the stead integration with the Jabulani herd. Though lockdown has been tough, it has also been a blessing in disguise, having Adine here 24/7 for this vital process.
It has been wonderful getting the insider perspective through the lens of her phone, giving us the tools to be able to share the integration videos in-depth with our followers. Khanyisa decided that her iPhone was a toy and damaged one of the phone's cameras lens's that created the 3D perspective, so sadly, no more of those super cool angles, but still, some great shots as always, being fortunate to be so close!
Today's video is a little longer than usual, and we hope you enjoy the special moments with Khanyisa and her new family, the Jabulani Herd!

I'm so happy that Khanyisa & the herd are more relaxed around each other. Timisa & Khanyisa are so cute together, I'm glad she has a little playmate ❤🐘 it's lovely to see Lundi, Khanyisa & Bubi's bond remains strong whilst Khanyisa gets to know the other ladies in the herd ❤🐘❤🐘

Watching these videos of Khanyisa and the herd is the highlight of my day. It’s so heartwarming to watch her learn from the adults and do what they are doing. Do the bulls always tend to stay in the background away from all the ladies?

Unbelievable, it’s been 10 months already!! Love how Khanysia & Timisa play & also share their love for each other. Laughed when tiny Khanyisa started walking/running in front of the herd when someone said ‘go’ or ‘walk’. It’s also great when the sky gets more cloudy for the ellies, specially for baby Sunshine to protect her eyes & little body so she can get away a little bit from the gentle giants that protect her from sun & harm! Thank you human HERD! 💗💗💗🐘🐘🐘🐑🐑

I do love and appreciate your show the best so far because you aren't blabbering all the time about yourselves and you let us see them from ground level and let us really watch them for long, long times so we can really SEE and HEAR them. It's wonderful how and thoughtful for us. You are doing a beautiful thing for them and us. Others who film animals don't give us time to understand what we are seeing. Thank you very much and I give you 5 Stars at least!!!!! I so appreciate what you are doing.

I have just discovered your channel and have been binge watching the videos! I would love to see a video about the philosophy of your organization and some of the behind the scenes activities to keep the place running smoothly. You are organized somewhat differently from the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust; I would love detail on that and how or if the different elephant sanctuaries overlap or cooperate. I also noticed the keepers carrying sticks, which I understand to be used as signalling devices for the elephants, not weapons (I mean, come on, a stick for protection against a huge bull elephant??), I would love some detail on the training and expectations of your caretakers, and how they live. You show great care and respect for the elephants, but do not seem to treat them as pets, which I might find irresistible! Do you reach out to the communities and schools? I would like to know a lot more about you!

Khanyisa keeps up with them all like a little trooper. Do lions ever show up, was wondering, but I'm not too worried about it with all the adult elephants there. Another question, are these elephants safe from poachers, I couldn't bare to think of them in danger. An observation: elephants must have quite a bite if they can chew those twigs.

Hi @Linda Barrett When I first started watching the Herd, I had the same question. HERD posted that when elephants are responding emotionally to a situation, like when Khanyisa was introduced the Jabulani Herd, this area secretes fluid. We’ve heard Adine speaking with Tigere about which specific elephants are secreting through the different “family situations.” To feel invited into the special world of the Jabulani Herd, is a gift. Your caring ,devotion and love for these elephants is incredible.I enjoy watching them all day. I love how Khanyisa is doing she is such a happy elephant now. The herd is awesome. I would like to know how many elephants are in the herd that go out into the bush with Khanyisa daily?
