What does a battery terminal spreader tool look like? When should you use dielectric grease on a battery terminal? What is the SAE recommended torque for battery terminal bolts? (There is a specific torque for the nut.) How do you use a battery terminal lifter? How do you clean and dry really grungy, corroded battery terminals? What is a good anti-corrosion spray to use on battery terminals, or is Vaseline good enough?
Didn't show how to replace the cable, wish you had. You did speak of both options, what it I decide to replace my cable or it is clearly damaged?
Gotta love that 240p
Shouldnt electrical tape be applied to exposed wires so you dont have arc or fry your battery?

on the battery end, using the temporary battery connector - it will give you plenty of practice replacing it as it will fail
Did autozone record this in 2003?
"Begin by placing a cover over the fender of the vehicle", proceeds without fender cover
Great informative video
Great and easy explanation
what if I have a terminal that separates the positive cable? do I need the same kind or can I use one that takes one cable?
screw on terminals are terrible, high chance of corrosion and arcing. Nice advice.

Replacing the terminals just gives you a new problem of everlasting corrosion of the exposed copper.
Could this be why my car wont stay on? After jumping it, it dies. Has a new battery and alternator.
how do you replace the CABLE?? It's too short and needs a to be longer
Oh my, my. So many things missed. What about the WITTDTJR? Should you use dielectric grease?
2010 Chevy Malibu: How do I replace the whole Positive Cable?
I have a 2015 kia optima and i am considering replacing the positive cable connector. The factory connector has a 180amp fuse attached to it. The connector appears to be completely oxidized though. Do i need to add an inline fuse if i replace the terminal???
ahhh I work at autozone lmao
I’d rather watch Eric the car guy. He is more knowledgeable and can explain things in more detail without trying to sound all professional. These types of videos from these big franchises focus more on trying to look “professional” and not making any mistakes which is kind of annoying.
This helped!! Thank you!
My question is can you cut 1 of the wire to replace 1 of the terminals when the other wire is disconnected to the battery ? It's because the battery that's in the car is completely dead but i can't take the old battery out because 1 of the battery terminal is rusted to the battery ?
@minecraft-shower425
5 жыл бұрын
to be honest it might be better to just try and knock the terminal loose or use WD-40 to loosen it. You can literally use a hammer to knock it loose, wouldn't suggest it but it'll loosen it.
but your company does not carry the positive cable fuse block for nissan,,,,

i would suggest soldering them together? after exposing the bare copper of course
That type of replacement connector never lasts long. It exposes even more copper conductor to the hostile battery environment, leading to more corrosion. They eventually cause even more no-start conditions.
@AK-ip2pu
2 жыл бұрын
What do you suggest as an alternative?
@hugh007
2 жыл бұрын
@@AK-ip2pu best repair is a new cable, although on many new cars it can be expensive and time consuming if it feeds many places. Next, I would install a properly sized copper lug on the undamaged and cleaned copper strands and bolt that to the replacement terminal. Auto stereo shops may have more ideas, as high powered, annoying stereos often get connected directly to the battery posts.
where's the cable replacement?
My + and ground cable to the battery get hot when driving, is this due to corrosion?
@eksine
8 жыл бұрын
no, it's basic science, either you have a loose connection (equivalent to using smaller wire and causing heat because wires are too thin, this however is very unlikely), second the wires are too thin to begin with, heat occurs because you're trying to push electricity through wires that cannot handle the current. if this happened before you upgraded the connectors than your original wires were inadequate to begin with, if it got hot after check all connections to make sure you tighten the connecter down snug, but not too snug. if its already snug, your wires are too thin, replace them with lower gauge, lower gauge means thicker wire, its counter intuitive
@MistRVertexZ
8 жыл бұрын
the wires are way bigger than original, but a corroded ground wire to the battery was the issue, i cut of the corroded bit and after that it was smooth sailing
I need to know how to replace the positive cable. This is useless.

Do you have a video to show how to replace a positive battery cable that goes to a starter?
Shouldn't you discharge the cables before doing this so you don't fry the system? Seeing as a charge is still in the system, I'd like to discharge first (sort of like hard resetting your phone, almost).

Replacing the connector/terminal like that is the worst thing you can do. You're better off replacing the cables entirely, because if you don't just expect corrosion after corrosion by doing that. You'll have to constantly clean it, and if you don't then you're just waiting for it to corrode enough that your car won't start. Doing a cheap and quick repair like that will just cost you more money in the end, you're better off buying new cables entirely. They'll not corrode like that, have better connection, and are all around a better solid option.

Misleading title - you didn't replace the cable, just trimmed down the existing cable. Waste of time.
Thumbs down. This has NOTHING to do with replacing the cable.
She talks about a fender cover, but never uses one!
These universal clamp battery terminals are awful. Exposed bare cable is an invite for corrosion, not only on the clamp, but in the wire itself; and when that happens, you will have to replace the whole cable. The best replacement terminals are those that have little to no cable exposure, such as the Solder terminals, or the Copper Compression Terminal.

Why do women shave off their eyebrows and then draw them on?
@15thTimeLord

Because natural beauty means nothing... I don't know, maybe pthose who do it just dislike their natural eyebrow shape. If they are 'too short' it would look better to start over rather than extend the existing eyebrow.
