    WARNING!! DON'T BREATH IN THE BATTERY ACID FUMES, and make sure the tub you use does not have holes in it like my one and leaked battery acid everywhere.... Get in a well ventilated area (wind blowing across) or use a VOC mask. Baking soda water is in and I have a few hours to wait.

    So how'd it work out for you? I've seen a few people on KZread recondition batteries with distilled water & epsom salt too. When you say make sure your tub does not leak, can you use a plastic container or what type would be best? Batteries are plastic so I'd guess plastic would work just fine.

    Distilled water works also. You really don't even have to clean it out unless the batteries super old. Take caps off, top it off with water, charge for 15 minutes at a time with 1 hr no charging in between. Repeat 3-5 times until water starts to boil. Once that happens cap it and charge for about 30 minutes and it will be like new.

    Most electronic chargers do not have enough amperage and have regulators which prevent what you are saying You need at least 200 amps with a manual setting that allows 15 min charging A 2-6amp auto charged is NOT going to do this so saying “charge for 15 min” isn’t going to work for most people trying to follow your advice The whole process is going to take about 5h of intermediate 15min charge and cools Also your last charge needs to be 2amp All of that is important and can’t be left out Distilled water doesn’t work “also” it’s the ONLY water you should be adding as it doesn’t have minerals in it that will bride the plates which is exactly what we are trying to knock off the plates with our higher amp charging

    I didnt make this video but I think I get what they did. The baking soda+water is a BASE solution, whereas the stuff inside the battery that's all gunked up on the cells is ACIDIC. By putting the water+baking soda mixture into the battery and allowing the reaction to occur (all of the bubbling), it helps to remove any corrosion on the cells. They seemed fairly heavy handed with the baking soda, so to be honest, I dont think exact measurements are needed. In this particular case- an excess of baking soda is totally okay, so long as it is able to fully dissolve into the water (just be sure that you rinse out the battery very well with tap water or distilled water after it's baking soda soak, otherwise any leftover baking soda will neutralize some of the acid that you put back in.) After doing this, they then rinsed it with tap water (in my opinion adding distilled water and then shaking the battery once capped and then rinsing it out would be best, but tap water probably isnt too problematic) to remove any of the loose particles that were stuck to the positive and negative terminals inside the cells. After essentially CHEMICALLY CLEANING the terminals, they then put the electrolyte solution back in (sulfuric acid+whatever the "reconditioner" stuff is. honestly, just more sulfuric acid ought to work just fine, it's what was in it in the first place) and capped the nice n fresh battery!

After you're fairly sure its rinsed of all baking soda residue, go ahead and add the filtered sulfuric acid back in. As for how to come by more sulfuric acid? Usually the black color of the electrolyte means that the internal lead plates of the battery are already severely damaged. Not just sulfated. Baking soda can only help if your plates are sulfated, but not if you have this black sulfuric acid.

  • @sumyunguy9930

    @sumyunguy9930

    2 жыл бұрын

    I think you may be a bit hypercritical when you say "severely damaged"....sure, some corrosion has occured, but I strongly doubt that they are damaged to any great extent. Think of it like teeth. The lead terminals inside the battery cells are the teeth, and the corrosion (black stuff in the acid) is enamel that has worn off. Now ask yourself, if a little of your enamel erodes off, should you then proceed to remove your tooth, because it's now "severely damaged"? Hell no. Just scrape away any decay, and go on with your day.

Ignoring a LOT of other factors here… sulfate developing on battery plates are like caries/damaged enamel.. sure. But this black sulfuric sludge means that the plates are wrecked to the point that the actual lead has broken off of them like concrete spalling. That’s past the enamel, past the dentin, through the pulp, and the tooth is abscessing fast. If it doesn’t get pulled, the infection can spread to your jaw bone and *really* fuck shit up. I would not recommend cleaning (used) sulphuric acid by placing a funnel on top of such a rather tall, weightless and totally wobbly, unstable plastic bottle. The one used in this case is one of the lightest types that exist. It has no stability and you won't even have to be clumsy for it to go fall onto its side... just a small gust of wind or the acid sloshing into that relatively heavy funnel on top unevenly would be enough to cause that. This is a type of acid you prefer not to spill, not to have to clean up, not to run the risk of getting splashed onto any body part or anything else, and also you want to reuse it and therefore would not want to lose it.
