Testing the Autowit SuperCap2 on my brother in law's jeep. His car has a charging system issue, and his battery is always dead. As you can see, it was at 8.2 volts when we started. The Autowit SuperCap2 took 5 minutes to charge from the 8.2-volt battery fully, and it started the car without a struggle.
True Story... Imagine you're working late on a cold and snowy winter night. You get your car door cleared off so you can start warming her up and dig for your snow removal tool. You turn the key click... click..., you try again, click... There is no one around, the building locked behind you on your way out and it's cold. You call Triple A then sit and wait...
Fast forward a few months later, and your family gave you a cool Lithium-Ion battery jump-start device. You keep it charged and at the ready, every week checking the battery, and when you go to use it on your 5.7-liter magnum, you find it just doesn't have the power to crank anything bigger than a 3.6-liter engine.
The Autowit SuperCap2 is probably one of the coolest things you can toss in your trunk and forget about until you need it. When Autowit contacted me to test this device, I was skeptical that it would work as described, but I was excited to put it to the test.
Imagine a device that comes with a cool carry case that you can toss in the bottom of your trunk and forget about until you need it. No charging, no maintenance! The Autowit SuperCap2 charges from your low battery in 3 to 5 minutes and will provide enough AMPS (800peak amps) to start up to a 7-liter engine. So charger and challenger SXT owners you're good, 5.7-liter R/T owners you're good, 6.4 Scat Pack and SRT owners you're good, 6.2-Liter Hellcat and Redeye Owners you're good! The elite Hellephant owners are hitting the 7.0-liter top range of the device.

I have these (with a battery) in both my cars. But they were only 60ish a pop. Never had to use either. When i saw the $150 price of this i thought ouch at first. But then read good up to 10 years. So definitely justified. 1 of mine has some swelling. So pretty sure it'll explode any day now 😂 so if i have to replace them every few years i'll be spending more than $150 long term. I guess the only advantage of the others is you dont have to wait 5 min. But then again you also need to top them up every couple months. As soon as 1 of mine im coming back here and using your link for one of these.

Saw that the Tacklife T8 had great reviews, ( KZreadr project farm ) did a pretty thorough comparison of a few. Also a new model T8 was released with improved off switch functionality, Amazon has a great deal on T8 pro. So I grabbed the deal. But I like your idea of being prepared. jumping cables are bulky, and you need a doner car or Mopar roadside svce. What's your opinion..You are always very meticulous and detailed ...your opinion matters!

My question is, if this device is as simple and reliable as it seems in the youtube videos, why don't they build a system like this into every new car at the factory? Why isn't it mandatory? I mean, in nearly 20 years of driving without a backup camera, I've never once backed into anything or anyone, even in my full-sized Ford van (mirrors, people!). But I've had to jump my car or someone else's car dozens of times, and had terrible luck with those battery powered jumper packs. A self-jumping car would be a game changer! Especially in colder climates.

You have way too much faith in the world. We live our whole lives swimming in a cesspool of incompetence, half assed corner cutting products, and PROFIT obsession. Car makers can care less if your battery dies somewhere 6 years after you buy a car.

  • @wc4572

this thing is a hit or miss half the time, if the battery is very discharged the unit won't even detect it as a battery and doesn't turn on. And when it does turn on it's not guaranteed to start the car even on smaller engines. Most the time I have to use jumper cables AND the autowit to start a car

Yes after having the battery versions for years which require maintenance the super capacitor unit is the way to go. It went over a year without using it and in January I needed it to start my moms car. Then 2 weeks later my Ram 1500 battery went and started her 5.7L up in less than 3 minutes because the battery was down to 10.2 volts.

What happens if the car doesn't start straight away, how long will it spin the engine over for before it's discharged?

  • @johnnyfearlesszrx

    @johnnyfearlesszrx

    2 жыл бұрын

It gets enough charge to turn the engine over for a couple of seconds which is long enough to start any car that starts normally. if it doesn't start on the first try, the unit will charge again from the low battery. If the car has a problem causing it to take 3 seconds or more turning the key to get it running with a good battery, this is not the solution. This unit is the perfect solution to a good engine with battery that's too far discharged to start the car by itself.

@@johnnyfearlesszrx what a great reply! Yeah a more compromised car might not start with this yet will start with a battery jump starter because those ones can be cranked for a bit. But like you say, that means there’s an issue going on that’s beyond someone just leaving the interior lights on or something.

  • @johnnyfearlesszrx

@@joebuck4496 Thankyou, I actually found the power output was so good that the starter turns quicker in that couple of seconds than it does normally with a strong battery. I've had my supercapacitor starter a few years now and I know it will be as good as it was when I bought it in the event that it's needed. Much better and safer than the lithium starters in my opinion. The cars battery in the video is around 8 volts and took around 5 minutes to charge but if the battery is not as low as that it takes around 2 minutes to charge when it's just below the point of being able to start the car by itself. It can also be charged from a donor car and moved to the low battery car to start it. There's no spark when connecting and disconnecting super capacitor starters due to their internal switching and monitoring. Sparks cause spikes that can damage electronics on modern vehicles so I would always try this method first even if jump leads are the quicker option.

@@johnnyfearlesszrx interesting. I might reconsider now. I have been on the fence about this thing but I passed. However it is very inconvenient to lug a jump starter back & forth from your car a lot during extreme summer & winter temperatures (I mean most people wouldn’t do that, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable leaving lithium batteries in a car other than more mild weather).

Also happy to report this thing is still working and performs well in temps below 10F. And yes it’s much faster 2-3 minutes charge when the battery is a more retaliating low like 10-11 volts. I wanted to test an extreme situation 8volts to make sure it worked.
