They are f*cking awesome machines, and the art of making these should be brought back, but i wouldn't trust them enough to not put them in a barricaded closest at night. They are so eerily similar to the real things they imitate, as to have dropped into the uncanny valley...

Them being in the uncanny valley is the most beautiful thing about them

Despite the outbreak of digital technology, I think there will be a time in the future where clockwork technology will make a bigger comeback because of its fascination. Gears and cogs turning is a very cool and fascinating thing to watch and the art of making them is just as beautiful. Me being a clockwork and steampunk fan, I think it's fun tinkering with clocks and other mechanical instruments. Sure, it won't completely replace electronic devices, but I think they will come back eventually

I hope old school tech comes back and saves us from Digital World. I’m a manufacturer of gears from India and I’m Highly intrigued by the concept of automatons. Glad we share same choices.

Believe me they still do, they quite efficient at certain tasks.
So beautiful the clock work, the gears. I love anything mechanical watch like.
These are genius and the people who designed and built them are truly amazing.

BRING THEM BACK !! Very awsome !
Loved this, loved the music too
FOR SUPEEERRRR EARTH...!!!!
THIS IS AMAZING!!!!
They were beyond their time
Surprised no one has mentioned it yet but if you love the concept of automatons, play the game series syberia, based in a world where these got a lot more popular than they ever did irl
I am a fulltime automaton builder that posts some of my lifesize works here on KZread, but I always end up browsing other videos on automata. Every time, I end up being inspired by videos of such amazing pieces such as this one and get so excited to get back into the shop creating! Thanks for sharing such incredible pieces!!
Inacreditável, o robô vitoriano desenha melhor que eu
Yess. I've found the name of that movie which has a writing automaton. Hugo.
What's the name of the music used in the video?
The name of the music ?
When I was still in 3rd grade my dream is to built an automata because of a certain anime I watched and I'm in high school now and it is still one of my dreams cause I'm really interested in them they work without electricity the it looks like they were build by aliens. I want to build an automata that can play 10 different types of music.
fascinante.
Offensive that they label this as art, this is cutting edge engineering even to this day, and is even more impressive than typical modern engineering projects.

Hugo was such a wonderful movie and I was absolutely fascinated with every minute of it from the first time I watched it as a 10 year old❤️ it’s worth watching
AUTOMATON? FOR SUPER EARTHHHH!!!
IMO this takes more intelligence and talent to create than writing a program for an animatronic puppet.
Impresionante. Anque asustan un poco.
Creepy but cool.
Plato's robot that performed many tasks is missing though antedated this other automatons for almost twenty centuries.
Потрясающе🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤!!!

Slightly tiffed that the automatons of Hero of Alexandria and the Japanese tea servers weren't mentioned. They are centuries older and likely inspired many of the recent creations shown.- kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z4B2zteshaeZe8o.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/m2idsrmIddbek8o.html
I think some of the people commenting about wanting to see a renaissance in this don’t see that this science and art might have found many new applications already and have applied the principles to other things.
So basically, this is the earliest form of "Non-Traditional" advertising for clocks.
Oh wow man😃
I once saw such an intriguing daily activity behind a hospital. Some kind of mechanical person & a dog walked clickwise around a track & a mechanical blackbird swooped left to right, following a direct course. This took place every day. I went back to track it down but it wasn't there. What was it? Dog training?

these look terrifying, but also pretty fucking sick

Very little has changed.

i just wonder how they controlled the turk (chess automaton) and the samurai 1875 also chess (automaton)
They creep me out a bit because some of them are very real looking but they just do the same thing over and over. You might briefly mistake it for a real person, then you realize that something's off.
THE NAME OF THE MUSIC????😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Like all the writing on the bottom blocking the picture.
Automatons were so like steam - punk robots But nowadays robots are cyberpunky
I can imagine a good anime plot for this... Giant Automatons vs titans during 1700s era ..wow
