I wanted to wait till tomorrow to wish Shannon a happy mother's day, but I also remembered that I have to thank her for her service as a nurse. Then I remembered I have to thank you John for being an amazing teacher for teacher appreciation day. Then it dawned on me how much your family gives to humanity, from your heart for any and all who need it. As I always say, thank you just doesn't seem like enough. What I wouldn't give to sit and paint a shell with such beautiful souls💞 happy thank you for everything you do day!!!God bless #mysteryofbluedogssolved P.s. That is histerical Alicia. But I have to admit, I was distracted toward the end of the conversation because there were actually a few paint drops, small ones, on the inside of my coffee cup. Not enough for me to get up and do anything about it though. I just carefully sipped my coffee around them.🙂💙

Phone Blue-Dog Blue. Great coffee talk. I honestly believe that Respite Care would be wonderful for you. Once you found the right person that you felt comfy with and Nick loved being with....so many new doors would open. Shame on N.Y. and so many other states for dragging their feet and not making this top priority in every state. Enjoyed 🧩👍🧩👍

Hi Elaine. It does make sense that if rocky was going to get paint on his face it would be blue. I agree, I think respite is going to be great for Nicholas. Hi guys! I’m a caregiver and I’ve worked mostly with self directed families. I love that you used the analogy of bringing in a new family member essentially. I work 40 hours a week in the home of my employer and they absolutely feel like family at this point. I’ve been there 3 years now.

happy mothers day shannon !! I live in alberta and we had to fight tooth and nail for any help with my boy ,at one point in time I was his ea .finally it got all to much and i home schooled all 4 of my kids ,I was very very lucky to have both sets of granparents so close to help ,cause respite was a joke here.I do worry about when we are gone very very big worry ,but having 3 other children who know how this family works is a blessing,last night the boys came in one by one and told me good night and they loved me ,being 22 and 24 that is amazing ,they do this every night but i was feeling down last night and tired.But today i will have all my kids and my grand babies here for mothers day dinner ,there is usally so much laughter i cant hear anything ,but i watch and am filled with joy.It has been 5 years since my medical boy has had his make a wish so we are celebrating that as well so many things to be thankful for i watch alot of vlogs and i am so happy to see yours is still real and about nicky and how all you make a family of love and saftey for each other ! bless you all ,

Just because something is provided by the state doesn't mean that is the right fit for our families. I completely understand. I love working directly with families through self direction. Agencies tend to take the long way around, and you generally don’t have a say in who you hire. - I’m shocked that it’s taken you 3 years to get here. I work with the ARC in Plattsburgh and they are great!! Both in Clinton and Jefferson counties. - I hope this all works out and you are able to get some help soon. I hope you find someone who loves Nicky and is a great fit for your family. It is like having someone join your family but when it’s the right person you will know. I LOVE my kiddos. 💙💙

@@NickyTVFamilyVlog I didnt want to impose on Sunday + Mothers Day ,But wanted to add that yes, I agree and just a thought but being at home, our kiddos are apt to be more engaging. Are y'all witnessing the O.T. area too ? My grandson is more proactive in O.T. in the past couple of months. I attribute this to on hands in the home. As you being a teacher I appreciate you noticing this. I love my grandsons ED.team and know they have his best interest always yet feel some areas are best in home progressive.

A respite worker may be nice for Nick’s loneliness you once talked about in an earlier vlog. Take your time in finding the right fit for Nicky and the entire family🌟

That's wonderful news.

It's a thing to paint rocks and secretly leave them around for people to find. Like maybe down by the mailbox? The only thing is you might have to switch to more durable paint or spray them with a fixative of some sort. Then again he might be upset when they're gone.

Amazing Cawfee talk. I’ve never thought about the budget My hubby is a money man (🤪accountant) and I gladly let him handle that. He also works in the field of special needs families, not just children but adults as well. We’ve spoken about Autism families and special needs families and how it’s handled money wise. He said it really gets complicated when it comes to government funding and other sources. We wish you much luck and many blessings on your decision. Does Nicky like to swim. The pool idea sounds great.

Thank you so much for the well wishes my friend. It does get extremely complicated dealing with the government here in New York. We've never received a penny outside of his public school education. So it really feels like a dream at this point. God-bless you my friend and enjoy today.

I love me some hot peanut butter sandwiches! Great vlog as always. Lots of good information to think about. A live schedule sounds like a lot for parents, kids and teachers. Not sure how that will work. I'll be interested to see how NY handles it. Have a wonderful weekend! I sent a small gift to both boys today, but they are not shipping at the same time, so when Nick gets his, you'll know Johnny has one coming later that won't be labeled from me. This certainly sounds like a good solution - albeit a temporary one. If you've been speaking with a special needs attorney and discussing special needs trusts, ABLE accounts and guardianship/power of attorney for when Nicky turns 18 then this will likely be moot - and may even interfere if you allow yourselves to become dependent on it. In the short term, you definitely need to consider getting a personal care nurse for Nicky for after school in the fall when Johnny leaves home for college. It may vary by state but IME many mental health workers aren't obligated to assist with ADLs like hygiene and toileting.

Neil K Walk Hi Neil. We have been to lawyer and have a special needs trust and guardianship in place for when Nicky turns 18. As far as services for Nicky, he will receive more after he’s 18 yrs of age in NY. We receive less now because he’s our dependent. Nicky won’t qualify for a nurse because he doesn’t have physical disability according to NY. Self direction allows us to hire people of different education levels and we give them direction of their duties which may include helping with ADLs.

U would be bringing someone n like summer w abbie..hopefully u could find someone who cares as much as her! Wish yall the best

Hi Stephanie. We live in oak beach New York. It is a small beach community on the South shore of Long Island. We definitely plan on getting respite for Nicholas. We are just undecided in regards to how many hours per week. It's a really big decision. Thank you so much for the message my friend.
