Autel MaxiCharger AC Wallbox Home Review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

I review the new Autel MaxiCharger AC Wallbox Home 40A Level 2 EV Charger. This smart EVSE includes unique features and is a fantastic value and, I think, high-quality charger.
You can purchase the MaxiCharger here: amzn.to/3PBlkZI
10% ($55.9) off using the code: OFF10AUTEL
Autel's official product page can be found here: autelenergy.us/pages/resident...
Autel provided me with this charger as a review unit, but I have done my best to maintain as neutral of a stance as possible.

I bought it and it works great. No regrets! I went from a 13 hour charge to a 2.5 hr charge. Thank you for the compressive review. 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe Summit Reserve.

This video helped me decide to purchase one of these. I've had it for a about a month and I'm very happy with it. The app has a few hiccups that I'm hoping will be fixed over time. It picks up my Wi-Fi even though the unit is on the outside of my house, which is nice. The cord is stiff, but it's been cold and I'd rather it be stiff than flimsy. Josh - after your water test it would have been nice to open up the unit to see if anything was wet. The unit might still work even though water got inside. It would be good to know that no water made it inside.

I've bought one via Amazon sale and am anxiously awaiting Tom's review. It looks like it meets his standards though.

I picked it up last weekend on sale for $447. Took maybe 30 minutes to install it on my garage wall and get it on my home Wi-Fi and connect it to my nema 14-50 outlet.

Great video. I happened to find this charger on a great Amazon Prime Day the deal the exact time looking for one. The unit looks and works great. The app is a bit clunky but works just fine. I really like the unit as it constructed quite well with a very long cord that is pretty flexible. Autel's support is very responsive both before and after the sell. I can see them selling a bunch of these once word gets out. They are still pretty unknown for the most part but I expect that to change.

Great video, thanks. It actually persuaded me to buy one here in the Netherlands. I got it working but only thing left now is find a longer cable from the charger to my electricity cabinet (not sure whether I'm translating that correctly) but somehow Autel support is refusing to sell me one or send me to a manufacturer that does. They keep hammering on the fact that I should contact an electrician instead of doing this myself. Frustrating. I hope you or any commenters have a tip on where to find a replacement cable.

I'm not sure you'll be able to find a replacement "cable" to get to your fusebox/breaker panel/electricity cabinet. If you want an extension cord, you will need something that can handle 60amps (if the rest of your wiring can handle that) which will be a #6 awg. But the best is to run wire inside conduit. I recently installed a 60 amp circuit using (2)#6 Cu THHN (Thermoplastic High Heat Nylon) and (1) #8 Cu THHN inside 3/4" EMT (Electric Metallic Tube) Conduit w/Sigma ProConnex Raintight compression fitting (since it is outdoors, and they were $1.04 each). There are lots of resources on these things available, but I don't think youtube lets folks other than the creator to post links. Also, I am in the United States

I am intested in using this at my business for my customers but only want to have "on" during business hours. Is this possible with the scheduling feature on the app? I.e. Open from 9-6 W-F 10-5 on Sat and Sun.

Great Review!! Two questilons. What is the warranty on the Autel MaxiCharger? And why are there no reviews on Amazon? Is it just too new for that? I guess one more, when will State of Charge review the deep freeze of the cable? Thanks for the review. I'm tempted to take a chance on this one based on it.

Hi Liz, thanks for the questions. It is very new in the US - only on the market a bit over a month, thus the few reviews. I’m not sure when Tom at State of Charge will review it, but I am hoping he will before long and there are others interested to see his trademark tests. As far as the cord, compared to my ChargePoint Home Flex it is a bit stiffer. As you probably know, the ChargePoint cord is rated very highly by Tom in the cold. I do have some other beef with ChargePoint though. Unless you have both units side-by-side I doubt you’d notice the difference in the cords, but perhaps you would in the cold. Overall, as I said in the video I do really like the Autel and it seems well made! Good luck 😀

One question I have that bugs me on my Wallbox, I cannot schedule a charge and set the current per schedule; this would be useful to me as I run my charger from my solar/battery backup setup and if I charge at 7am, the sun will be very weak and I need to setup the charge current from 7-10am to the minimum, however after 10am I can go full current, is this possible with this charger?

I'm really looking for a charger that can stop charging the vehical at a set limit. For example charge only to 80 percent every night. Does this charger do that or do you know of any that do. Thanks

  • @chargeeverywhere

    @chargeeverywhere

You can schedule a charge time, but it will not stop at a given charge percentage. This would require the vehicle to report a state of charge to the EVSE, which is currently not part of the J1772 AC charging solution communications standard. I don’t believe any current EVSEs support this. They would have to communicate with the vehicle through the web to access charge percentages. If you play around with your scheduling you could potentially get close to your desired charge, but that’s not an ideal method.
