Thanks for the update. These are the sorts of videos that drone shoppers need to see. Been flying my own Evo since July -- and I am _totally_ happy. Yes, it needed updates along the way, but they came as promised. Wicked easy to fly. Nicely quiet compared to typical flying vacuum cleaners and raging bees. And the Evo still produces the best video of any consumer drone.

I'm pretty surprised. Looks really good. I'd love to be testing one of those. Thanks for the video!

I’ve had my Evo for 2 months now and when I went to buy it I was going for the mavic pro then I saw this one and boy I wasn’t disappointed one bit! It’s easy to fly and fast! Not to mention the camera on it! No restrictions and updates. Awesome drone!!

Just got my first drone ever and the Evo is great! Your videos made it easy on my buy, got lucky and got a great deal on the Evo, came with a $100 gift card from Best Buy and they had a deal you also got the Evo go bundle free!

The answer, in my opinion, is yes! I have an Evo and have never encountered any of the issues I have seen in old reviews! Great video!

Captain! Very nicely done video on the Autel Evo updates! I have all the firmware updates on my Evo as well, and I am really impressed with the lack of horizon tilt, and precision landing. After installing the updates, I flew 6 RTH flights from different locations and altitudes. Every time it landed, it was more precise! Autel must have incorporated some type of smart learning feature! Anyway, another great review, and keep them coming😃🛩...

It is! I snagged the Evo and got a free On the Go bundle which includes two extra batteries, extra pair of props, and a nice carry bag. The ONLY one thing I wish was available was an official Autel Robotics charging hub for the batteries.

My friend just got the evo. Got to show him this video. We are going to test get out on Friday!

I have always enjoyed your honest, straightforward reviews of Drones but now well you're a man after my own heart. I love my RC Cars! I love my fixed wings and my DJI Birds but my cars OMG its the one thing that my wife has no problem going out and trying to show me up at every chance we get. It's just pure fun for us and a great way to get out no matter what season it is. We like you have 4 of them and I'll launch a car right off a pile of snow no questions asked! Great review of the EVO. Our Best Buy finally had them in stock when we were there last Friday. I really like it a lot. Very nice bird. If you're done with yours, I'll gladly help fun a new home!!!!

Great video Steve. Thank you. The quality of the video has been consistent and i really like it above everything out there. Especially for the money. With the new Pocket, i have a feeling that the 4k60 will be the standard across the board for 2019. So, maybe 500 for a Spark2 with the Pocket camera. Sometimes its not good to wait too long, but Evo looks like the Drone of 2018 with 3 batteries for under 1K imho.

Steve excellent update on the Evo. I’m very impressed that Autel has really stepped up its game as the software updates have been timely and addressed issues. Would love to see a price break on it as I’d love to get one.

Well, I was just about to pull the trigger on a Mavic Air today, but as it is a public holiday, the store was closed. So that gave me a window to do some extra research. Now, because of you, I’m no longer buying the Mavic. I just ordered the Evo... Our local airport was about to open a new runway before corona happened, and our property is right under the new flight path. So, another bonus over the DJI... - no geofencing.

I have to say, after a bumpy start the Evo looks the business now.

Steve, thanks for the update on the Evo. Great drone and I think this will be my next one to get. Have you tried installing the orange master airscrew props on the Evo that you used on the Mavic 2 ? that would look awesome. I also think if they reduced the F.O.V. from 94 degrees by 10 percent to 84 or even 80 degrees that may take the props out of most shots.

You can turn off the beeping in the vision settings by setting radar to off. I sly super close to things and that was driving me nuts :)

Most definitely awesome improvement and that through firmware alone? I really can see the use of the different speeds, specifically for training and practice. Hopefully DJI will see this and update Spark, Mavic Air and Mavic Pros. Obviously the Autel Evo is too fast to test in your back yard. Thank you for an excellent and awesome review.

Great review! I currently have the Autel X-Star, and it has been a very high quality drone, and takes awesome pictures/Videos and is easy to fly. My next one will be the AUtel Evo for sure.

Not available in Europe at this time. If you want one, you have to buy it from DRONE WORKS in the US and they will ship it to you.

When you are doing the follow me up the hill do you have optical avoidance on I turned it off and it followed me up the hill but it almost crashed into the hill

Yes it was on. The reason is so that it doesn't crash into the hill. If I turned it off, it would have just flown direct into the slope.

Hey Steve getting ready to buy this or MPZ is an update coming soon. I’d really like to know a year later is all of the obstacle avoidance (rear) working now? Big for me. I like it. I am a huge DJI Fanboy honestly but I’d really like to see if it’s worth it. Thanks!

There is an EVO firmware coming out. It is in BETA at the moment. If you go to the AUTEL EVO website I believe they say what the next firmware will have.

Looks like DJI has some competition. Looks excellent but I love my Air. Eamon from Ireland.

I finally took the plunge and purchased the evo. Amazon had a deal for just over 1k including 3 batteries,extra 64 g card, and bag. Excited to get it....

Yes. It works like the DJI Point of Interest. You fly the EVO over an object, select point of interest, then fly back a set distance to set the radius, then hit GO and you have your orbit mode.

I can't believe how stable the video is from this drone. For a second, I thought you were fakin' it or something and had it on a tripod. It's also faster than a speeding bullet, able to leap tall buildings with a single bound. Oh wait, that's the theme intro for the old superman serial. I like the vivid color mode, at least where your shooting at. It seems to brighten things up with more color. Oh gee! I guess that's what a vivid mode should do. The circle, orbit feature looks way smoother than another video I watched on that. Looks like they've really done good on the updates. I love the video, and with the 60fps., man this is something to contend against, especially at this price point. Heck, I'd almost buy it just because of the color. I love that competition orange look. Looks like a great drone to me, and thanks again for the always good, and always entertaining productions you put out. Marc T.

I think eventually, the terrain follow will be added via firmware upgrade probably along with many other features. Their customer service is also very excellent, bar none. For anyone thinking about buying as a Christmas gift, they have some great deals going on. Do you think a one inch sensor version will be in the works for next year?

Wow very good review. I'm thinking of getting one of these for the hangar. Own several DJI products but like the camera on this one. Don't use all those Intell features on the DJI drones so Autel drone sounds like the one for my skills. How's the connection not as good as MP2 Occusyn right? Is the connection say better than Mavic Air since they're both wifi?

Surprisingly the connection is really good. Not as good as Occusync, but better than average (way better than that of the Mavic Air).

Is there a way to have follow me on the EVO work by following the controller or phone, like the BeBop does? The BeBop will climb a hill during follow me if it's following the controller or phone because it uses their gps and barometer to find heights.

In order for something like that to work, the EVO would have to communicate the the phone and the phone GPS. At this time the EVO does not have this capability.

​@@CAPTAINDRONE798 - That's unfortunate, to use follow me it has to use the phone so the app will run. But, it has the option of not only following the object selected in the video screen, but also following the phone itself. That way the phone GPS and Barometer are used. I'm guessing DJI does the same magic with their follow me. Another benefit is that if the drone loses sight of you, by using the GPS, there's a much greater chance that it finds you again. You can see it looking in the direction of the phone to find you again. It does not ALWAYS work, but it works better than DJI. With that said, the DJI products are years ahead of Parrot in quality and function.

@captain drone what are your thoughts on on the evo compaired to the Mavic Air ? I don’t need massive flight range just a drone that is portable, takes good video and photos and I don’t have to edit in post to much.

The EVO has a longer flight range and better camera and controller than the Mavic Air. The Mavic Air has more DJI autonmous flight modes that the EVO does not have. But the EVO has waypoint programming if you need it and it has zero no fly zones. I could not pick one over the other for you because I don't know your requirements, only you do.

I’m coming from a p34k and just want something with as good footage, I will be using it for holiday shots and footage. How did you find the app ? In your comparison of the p4,Anafi,evo and Air . I thought the evo looked better but what are they like when you compare them with ND Filters and custom settings on them ? Does the evo still shine and have a more sharper image?

I have an iMAC so I use iMOVIE or FINAL CUT or DAVINCI RESOLVE.... just depends on what I need to accomplish.

Brence, that is because the AUTEL EVO records in 4K 60 FPS. So for the video I had the EVO record at 4K 60FPS and I set my GoPro to also record at 4K 60 FPS. This way the entire video is at 4K 60FPS so that when it is uploaded to KZread, it gets posted as a 4K 60FPS video (which makes everything nice and smooth).

The transmission distance is slightly less than the MAVIC 2 ZOOM. If you have the ZOOM there is little reason to get the EVO, unless you wanted a drone with no flight zone restrictions that had 60 FPS in 4K.

I was originally planning to buy a mavic, one of the pro series, until I researched the problems with forced updates, NFZ, and poor customer service. Then it came down to finding the best drone that isn't DJI, and EVO is it. Have spent about the cost of a Pro, but have a really nice drone, 5 batteries, 2 chargers, and a hard case. Deal was drone + 3 batteries + soft bag + house charger for $999, bought 2 more batteries, car charger, and hard case. Arrived just before winter weather closed in, so limited flights, but so far awesome stills + video, resolution sharp out to the corners of the images. Expect to have little need to fix them up in post. Yes, I miss the low light, otherwise excellent. I shoot one-time events, no way to reshoot, can't have it grounded for updates or imagined NFZs. Live inside a small airport's 5 mile radius, call them, they say thanks, and off we go. 7 day/week phone support available, haven't needed it so far.
