Australian Parliament Calls for U.S. to Drop Case Against Julian Assange Ahead of U.K. Court Hearing

Support our work: www.democracynow.org/donate?c...
Imprisoned WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to find out next week whether he has exhausted opportunities to avoid extradition to the United States, where he faces life in prison for publishing classified documents exposing U.S. war crimes in Iraq and Afghanistan. A two-day hearing before the British High Court of Justice is scheduled to take place in London on Tuesday and Wednesday. He has been held in London's infamous Belmarsh Prison since 2019 awaiting his possible extradition. Jennifer Robinson, an Australian human rights attorney and legal adviser to Assange and WikiLeaks, discusses public and governmental support for Assange in Australia, where an "unprecedented" parliamentary resolution was passed Wednesday calling for Assange's release. Robinson calls the charges against Assange a "dangerous precedent for free speech" and says, "It's time that the United States respects our special relationship and listens to the calls of the Australian people and our Parliament and our government and drops this case."

Remember that American Journalist jailed in Russia? That person is imprisoned for the same reason. Russian president claimed that person was receiving classified information. Tucker asked Putin to release that journalist, Putin denied and said that person was receiving classified information. Assange is going to be imprisoned like Russia imprisoned that journalist. It is nothing out of the ordinary.

Dann kommt noch hinzu dass ein US-Militärgericht die beschuldigten Kriegsverbrecher frei gesprochen hat. Die USA lieferten praktisch die Vorlage für Putin und andere Regime. The old " I was simply following order's" isn't an excuse. The trials held after ww2 hung the perpetrators of war crimes. They didn't hang those gathering evidence and providing proof. Australian citizenship doesn't seem worth much going by how waylaid Assange has been by his own homeland. That's why nationalism and nation states need to be held accountable by international.bodies like the ICC and ICJ. Assange and other victims of conscience like Navalny, Khashoggi, the Sikhs, Hong Kong protesters, Tiananmen victims, all need to be protected by international law and the perpetrators of injustice to them brought to justice internationally.

I hate that Alexei Navalny has died he was a hero. Maybe the one good thing that can come out of it is Julian Assanges freedom. How can the US mourn for Navalny and still carry our government's vendetta against Assanges? He's a hero, he did nothing illegal, and he deserves his freedom.

Thank you for bringing these two together. That it is taking so much to protect Assange's life speaks to the dark hours we have come to, when Navalny's fate was set from the day he was sent to prison, simply for trying to run against Putin. Today those same powers that threaten Assange's life hail Navalny, when Navalny can no longer speak for himself. Where the hell was the mighty USA when Navalny was imprisoned? What a gutless world order!

He's heading for ADX Florence, the us government will use its political force to ensure this happens. It's not his exposing American war crimes "Murders of civilians abroad" that's the issue. The Russian guy is in prison and if you live in the US you'll be aware 100s die each year in prison, most are murderd and very few are held accountable for it. Each death is ultimately the responsibility of the government, so ultimately the current leader is responsible for those deaths

Short but fine video for its length. I hope the trial (or whatever it is called) against Julian this coming week goes well for him. He MUST be released to return home and the financial costs for his return to Australia should be covered by England and Washington, plus a reasonable amount of compensation so that he is not left to be a beggar. The compensation should at least equal the amount of income he normally would have earned over all of these many years and should be paid by Washington and England.
