In 1995, a Marine got into a fight with an infantry bloke. The marine knocked out the Infantry bloke and later a hundred infantry blokes came and fought the Marines. The next day the Marines had to stay on base for their own safety.

Americans and Australians are the most similar people on the planet despite living so far from each other. Even the geography and population density (or lack thereof) are similar in many ways. And despite the "special relationship" bullshit that the US and UK maintain, the Aussies are probably the USA's greatest friend and have always been there when it counted.

I enjoyed this Video Very much. As a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp and an M-60 Machine Gunner My Company Fox 2/3, 1st Marine Brigade in 1974 was attached to the 1st Royal Australian Regiment. I have Never been More Proud of another Military Force than I was of those Diggers. We drank 4XXXX Beer every night in Camp and Chowed Down on Barbecued "Wombats" that ran through our perimeter. P.T. the next morning was something Different too, The Aussies would take off in one massive herd on a Run Where as we Ran in Formation, In Step and calling Cadence All the Aussies fell into Perfect Formation with us on the Run IN STEP and yelling out our Cadence with US. My "Mate" in the field was Named "Rodney Jolly". We Boarded the USS Tulare and Sailed into Brisbane. As We came to Port the Royal Australian Band Played The MARINES HYMN, We were the first U.S. Marines to be there since WWII. On Shore Patrol as an MP, I worked with an Aussie Corporal Ian "SPUD" Murphy who invited me to live with his Family while I was there off duty. The Only Competition I recall was a Game of Rugby that the Aussies wiped our asses all over that field and most of us went home in a Cast. I Miss those Diggers and would have PROUD to go into Combat with Every one of them. SEMPER FI AUSTRALIA !!!

I feel the need to express myself to the Australians I met and Served with and especially to JetBlackBerry, WE, "I" would NEVER walk in an Australian Bar and pick a Fight, unless it was with a Sailor or another Marine. I have Way too much Respect and Love for the Australian People. We were treated with More Respect in Your Country than our Own. I remember coming Home from over sea's and having little balloon's of Red Paint thrown at us while being called "Baby Killers" by Jane Fonda following hippies. I remember standing in Uniform at the San Francisco Airport waiting for my flight and an Elderly Couple walking up to me and his wife hugging me while he shook my hand expressing how much I looked like Their MARINE Son Recently Killed in Vietnam, Then the Old Man told me about the Hippie up on the 2nd level Spitting on my Uniform, I saw that my Shoulders were wet. That Couple watched my Sea-Bag While I went upstairs and Broke his Nose and later The two Police Officers he brought to have me Arrested turned out to be Former Marines and handcuffed the Hippie before taking him away. Both in the Outback and in the Cities of Australia, All I ever Felt was Love, Compassion and Respect from your People. I remember sitting in a Theater in Brisbane with seven Other Marines all in Uniforms to watch "American Graffiti" and before the Movie Started, The Manager walked out on Stage and told Everybody "What Could be better than Watching an American Movie than With Members of the United States Marine Corps, Gentlemen will you Please Stand Up ?" As we Stood, Everybody in the Theater Stood Clapping and Smiling. THAT was the most Memorable Time in my Life. I'm 68 years old, What a Difference the Years have made. Everywhere I go Americans Today see my "Marine Veteran" cover and Thank me for my Service and I Thank them for being an American Patriot and wonder "Where were they in 1973" ? I Love my Family, My Country, The United States Marine Corps and The Australian People and look Forward to the Day we are ALL together Again.

Australians are taught our history very well and most of us know that in WW2 when the Japanese Empire was making it's way South, our calls for help to the Commonwealth fell on deaf ears... Churchill basically abandoned us because all the assets of the Commonwealth were tied up in Europe. So the Australian government asked for help from the US and got it in exchange for a permanent ally and a base close enough to Asia that the US could have a permanent influence over the region. So it was a marriage of convenience at the time but I think we've kinda grown on each other over the years :D :D
