Great video - just wanted to add that, in terms of wages, I think NZ has been catching up with Australia over the last few years. I just moved from Oz to NZ and I'm earning the same here.. The minimum wage in Australia used to be about $3 more per hour than in NZ a few years ago. Now in 2022 it's about the same ($21.38 p/hour in Aus & $21.20 p/hour in NZ).. I'm living in Queenstown right now and pretty much every single job pays at least $25 an hour. Office jobs in cities like Auckland and Wellington are paying around $25-$30 an hour.
This was the exact video I was hoping to find! Thank you for your advice. I really appreciate it. As someone who's newly interested in solo travel/backpacking, all of your videos have been super inspirational and educational.
Thank you for this video. I'm on my working holiday in NZ at the moment and I'm thinking about doing a year in Australia as well. This definitely helped making my decision easier!
Thanks for the tips. The way you make it sound so simple to do really makes me want to go there!
This video couldn't have been timed better as I've been debating Australia vs New Zealand for a few weeks now and still haven't decided 😂Thank you for making a video like this 😂🙏

This is a great summary. I’d like to add: Tasmania is like a mini NZ. Towns are much closer, and the weather is cooler. Australia is vast and often rugged! NZ is compact and pretty.
I remember extending my visa in Australia by flying to N.Z. I loved it in N.Z. It reminded me of the U.K. and was so different from Australia!

Hi frnd
yaaaas im planning a study abroad in NZ/AU. I really think that I would enjoy NZ more, but there are more options in AU for schools to attend and I just need to decide if I am going to prioritize activities, or the types of courses I can take. Thank you for this help in deciding!
Thanks for this video!! I’d love to know what tips you have for making friends once you’ve settled? Were there any activities or meet ups you got involved in (specifically in major cities in Australia/NZ) or did most of your friendships just come from the jobs you worked? I’m hoping to stay in one spot long enough to actually enjoy a bit of a life there! :)

From the East coast of Australia, NZ is only about 3 hours away by plane....so you can have the best of both worlds if you're willing to take some time off and book a flight.
Nice review....I’ve travelled both and agree....more money to make in oz....but NZ was the most beautiful....just raw natural beaches on the north island and everything on the South Island.....a lot warmer in oz tho.........
Christianne, would it be ok to ask how old you are? I am a 22 year old guy and I'm just wondering how my own experiences would compare to yours, if the age you go travelling has anything to do with it. I'm working full time in a warehouse right now and I'n so confused but excited to think about the options ahead of me, whether I want to study, take an apprenticeship, teach english abroad or get a working visa for some other work, and any of these things could happen for me within the next year. Enjoy your videos so much, thanks for being a guiding light for us novice/soon to be travellers, and for creating a community for the seasoned!
Very informative and useful, thanks! (btw your eyes are beautiful!)
I loved your review 💚 Now I want to live in Queestown. 😍🤣 - best wishes from Perú
My time in Australia is almost up. A few months left after almost 2 years being here. NZ next 😊 I'd recommend people work as much as they can in Australia because you'll likely never earn that much afterwards. I feel like I've missed out. On that. I've earnt but also spent a lot here. Flaming booze. One good tip don't piss it away. Plus I struggled to find work in the smaller Cities. Hobart, Tasmania. Still here. It's up and down. Also you see people live of of nothing. All depends on your character. Safe travels everyone 😆

Hi Christine I'm looking to buy a go pro for travelling which one would you recommend
Wonderful video! I did a 2 year working holiday in NZ (2016/2017) and am leaving for Aus in 4 weeks for my WH there, so this was super interesting! Just a note for anyone creeping the comments - the visa requirements in here were specifically for British citizens. Only the British and Canadians can get the second year for New Zealand, and Canadians don’t have the “only 12 months of work” clause. Many other countries have different rules and regulations on amount of time you are allowed to work in New Zealand (for example, a friend from Peru and a friend from Poland could only work for up to 3 months at one job, and then they needed to find a new job).

Hello! I wanted to ask about getting a WH visa in more than one country. I am planning on getting a WH in Australia, but also would love to do one in NZ. I had thought I could only apply once for one country, how did you manage it? Can you apply your extention into a different country?
@TheVanIslandGirl
Жыл бұрын
@@jenniferbessmer3459 I applied to them separately at diff times! So in 2016 I applied for the NZ one, got it, and went. Then after returning to Canada at the end of that visa, applied for the Aus one in 2018 and then left for Aus
Great video! what type of accommodation did you stay in in both countries? hostels? renting? Hotels? xx
Nice info mam! I want to work either of this 2 beautiful countries.
Comparing two very excellent countries. Visit both places if you can. I'm a Kiwi. I love Australia, and I love NZ.
Love the comparison of your working holiday experiences in both countries, it's very helpful :) I'm currently on a WH in New Zealand and love it! However, I think that as a British citizen you are sharing a very narrow perspective on the visa situation for NZ and OZ. Visa requirements are different depending on where you are from. British citizens are lucky to be able to apply for a visa whenever, get it approved straight away and also get a 2nd year visa. For most other countries that is not the case. There are usually only limited spots available every year, some countries even have as little as 100 visa spots and applications open on a certain day each year. So for anyone who's thinking of doing a working holiday, be sure to check the official visa requirements that apply to YOU specifically. This video gives the impression that it's super easy for anyone to get these visas, so just wanted to correct that 😉

@BackpackingBananas

You don't need to be worried! It's not a requirement to be able to drive. You will still be able to get around on public transport and what not.
If you were going to live in one of these countries for retirement, and you would not be working at all, which would you prefer and why?
Any tips for meeting locals or fellow backpackers before going ?
They are both amazing countries. Australia has vast deserts, incredible reefs and best of all: Tassie. New Zealand has higher mountains, glaciers and fiiords.
Little clear up the conviction thing is abit of a vague one. I've been granted mine for Aus even though I have a assault conviction. I think it goes on your merits and flaws. Just to help anyone who's scared of applying with a conviction
