I travelled from Moscow to Colombo and after winning the semi final, took the Charter flight to Lahore. What a match. All Pakistani brothers and sisters cheered for their brother country. It brought tears to my eyes to see our Pakistani brothers and sisters cheering for my country. I worked in Lahore for 6 months on a World Bank project to prepare a Master Plan for 10 cities in Lahore. I did my best for them. Long live our Friendship.

But the impact Aravinda Desilva had on Big Matches against all teams was unmatchable. People literally had no answer for him. Neither with the ball nor with the Bat. That's why many consider him as the Best Sri Lankan Allrounder ever..

By record, any player should not be considered genius. Arvinnda d silva was really a genius. He gave output whenever team required. According to me, all indians player are playing for record only. Sachin was most fissadi player. Australia was only bitten in 96 world Cup otherwise they never loose any wc final. This srilankan team is my fav team.

But winning the 1996 world cup was no fluke, and completely the result of brilliant planning. The concept of ‘Pinch Hitting’ in cricket had first appeared as far back as the 1970s in the South African domestic scene. But it was not until 1995 that the ICC formally adopted it with only two fielders permitted outside the circle in the first 15 overs. Indians had fixed plans which everyone knew. Australians played with strategy and commitment. Wrong and poor homework by India in the final. This was one of the weak Australian teams ever, still they managed to win

May be a once in a life time feat for Sri Lanka. The 2023 final was much similar to the 1996 final. Then, Sri Lanka choked Australia and restricted them to a similar 241 total before winning big. De Silva hitting a century like Head.

Remember this game v well. Conditions were overcast throughout the first innings. Second innings was offcourse under the lights. Sun never came out. Was a dull day. Cricket means Sunshine !!! Australians should have used their feet and tried to attack spinners. SL won because of spinners, they had enough batting to chase down that score. Aravinda d silva looked like a man on a mission throughout the game be it fielding, bowling or batting - 3 catches, 3 wickets and an unbeaten 100 , a dream game

Indeed, these games shared a lot of similarities. Trevis Head with bat and ball in 2023; Aravinda with bat and ball in 1996. As a fan of cricket, I thoroughly enjoyed two matches. Unfortunately, we were unable to win the two competitions that were held in India.

In 1996, Sri Lanka won the World cup. In 2023, Sri Lankan Cricket was suspended. Corrupted Cricket Board ruined everything. One of the main culprits who should responsible for that, also played this match.

Smooth, unadulterated cricket played by only the best, something we can't get anymore I guess.

Mark Taylor couldn’t win a WC but two people in this team, SW and RP, both become captains and win world cups. Says a lot about his incredible leadership skills.

In the end, it was an easy and comfortable 6 wickets victory, 7 overs to spare, where Head and Labuschange partnership was 192. Australia because the 6th time World Champions. Why I am mentioning this, coz I felt, this two games were almost similar.

Game actually played out similarly to the 2023 final. Australia not making enough runs from a good position, couple of early wickets in the chase making it look a tough ask, but comfortable by the end.
