I still remember this match. After early two wickets of Jaya and Kalu, they way Arvinda played with agression under pressure and infront of noisy fully packed stadium of indian supporter. It is truely a Lion Heart.

@@soundar4270 its not about SL chasing any total, that pitch was turning square, and not a flat pitch..Sachin in an interview said that top layer became totally loose and batting was extremely difficult..Indian spinner would been impossible to hit in second innings..And Azhar was asked to bat first on that pitch..he did not..

I think after Sachin's daparture all Indian batsmen became sheeps,they should learn from Arvinda's brave batting.

This match was a special milestone for our cricket history because of we could win this match(semi final) and could select to the final of wills world cup 1996. India could give a big pressure to sri lanka since start of the match but our team members could build a great innings for the sri lanka under the pressure of india team and indian crowd. All of people who watched this match thought india would win the match but it was change in that moment. middle level batsmen of india Was unsuccessful in that moment. Thereafter india team could add only 120 runs for 8 wickets to the board after that, the match had to be stopped in that moment cause protest of indian crowd. Finally our team could select to the final of the WC96.

I liked what Jayasuriya used to do those days while batting after every delivery he used to check his arm guard his pads and also his cap and while bowling or fielding after getting the wicket used to clap himself in joy PURE ENTERTAINER no need of Cheering Girls like in IPL

Mahanama was promoted to number 5 because when the third wicket fell it was still inside 15 overs and Ranatunga thought he'd be better against the newer ball since Mahanama was the test opener. Dropped anchor for 58 off 101 deliveries holding the innings together, at least as important as Aravinda's knock if not as memorable.

@@kmarasin And he was a magnificent player of spin. It was Mahanama, ranatunga and Tillekaratne combo in the case of a pitch that is turning square. These three players are very good with sweeps, dabs, and coming down the wicket to spinners. Even if Sl had to bat 2nd on this, we were ready.

Though sanath out for 1 run in this match and finals he was the most valuable player in the series.

One of best innings of de Silva look at his body language in such a tense game which they almost about to lose.. fantastic and match winning inning and made cry to the the opponent

Little did Sachin know that he is not just playing against Srilanka but also against the likes of azhar, jadeja, mongia. ..Sad😢

Even though I am Sri Lankan, I felt sorry for Vinod Kambli. He was an exceptionally talented batsman who never did get the chances he deserved, and him openly crying when the match was defaulted was heartbreaking. This was the match in which Sri Lanka was challenged the most in the 1996 world cup, the only match in which all 11 batsmen had to come out.

@@akeedmanuideen3970 actually we r too much involve ourselves in cricket. .... but the fact is only 10 countries around the world plays it... to be exact .. the British colony ... in the past... anyway coming to the point.... as long as sachin was there all were going smoothly. ... once he got out... then the big match fixers arrival and departure one after another... they couldn't even score 10 runs.... even sri lanka couldn't believe that they would win that easily. .. 98 for 1... 23rd over....then 120 with 8 down.... superb

When sachin got out score was 98/1, sachin scored 65. After his departure score was 120/8.

I still remember this match. But not happy ending and memories. Went to see this match at the iconic Eden Gardens but left after Legend Sachin got out since after Sachin got out it was impossible for India to win this match.

Sanath Jayasuriya is the only player whenever he couldn't contribute with bat, then he takes the ball in hands like a pro.❤❤❤❤ 🇱🇰🇱🇰

I agree, Kohli has a luxury of better batting line up. Sachin was kind of lone warrior most of the time. The way Sachin carried the expectation of billion people is really commendable. I never like to compare players of different era. Sachin was Sachin full stop.

I still remember that match, the moment Jayasurya was out for low score, I expected match to be in India's favour, but D'Silva done the impossible. While India is battling also I was confident, but after Sachin's wicket I thought of switching off the TV, but from then started enjoying the match seeing the funny expressions of Kambli, the way he came front foot and defended the ball with a funny feeling in his face entertained me greatly!
