Aurora - The Seed (Reaction) First Time Hearing!

Hey all! I really enjoyed this and am really curious about the potential differences between her live performances and her music videos (mostly because of the way she utilizes her physicality and the usage of environmental sounds here). Definitely interesting!

Rule 1: You have dragons on your arm. Aurora is a bona fide magical being. You two belong in the same universe. Rule 2: She is always better live. Rule 3: Aurora never sings about girl dreaming about kissing boy. She sings about loneliness, belonging, anti-conversion therapy of LGTB+, seeds (as you know), death, not dying, survival, imaginary conversations with gods, worrying trends of young male mental struggles, being outcast and different and how to remember how it is to see the world as a child. When she is not singing out running with wolves. (This is why she does not get much radio time - they do not like "controversial messages" I guess). Her fans call ourselves "Weirdos and Warriors" - because that is pretty much the bravest label one can obtain. She publishes her music in, hm... alternative electronica production values(?) but she performs her music in all formats. From acapella to unplugged (philharmonic) to unplugged (guitar piano and voice) to approaching electro-punk (think Prodigy dancing happily on their toes). While she has featured on Chemical Brothers and Disney (Frost theme song as the "voice) and all sorts of things. Oh - she is making a record for her afterlife. Making one new song every decade to be released after her death - She is two songs in - and every fan hopes that kids born long into the future will get a double album. Aurora is dancing like nobody is watching - to a soundtrack that is uniquely her own in the musical world. Oh - Aurora was who inspired Billie Eilish to start to write music. AND she is one of the deadpan funniest people on the planet. She is the socially semi-competent Luna Lovegood of the Musical world. (Interviewed by two men on camera asking her what she likes in life: "Well I like to masturbate" - just to make sure that everyone is aware of the real-life power-balance going on is not described by two men vs a tiny cute-looking "pop-singer". I do not bother with suggestions for music. Many fine people are dropping many fine suggestions for you, I notice. And I am ready to tag along if you end up dropping into one of the most glorious rabbit holes in current times - for the slightly weird warriors among us. (I am there - it is not atypical that dudes in our 50s feeling home in old Bowie and Prog-Rock, post-punk, and grunge growing up are happy down in this rabbit hole alongside a pretty diverse group of cats of all ages).

Aurora is one of the coolest, most unique artists out there. She is 25 and from Norway. She sings many different kinds of music. She is amazing live. If you want something beautiful try "Through the eyes of a child" live at Nidarosdomen. If you want to see her more lively and her personality, try "All is soft inside" live at KEXP Iceland 2018. This young lady is like no other. She's the most kind, humble, quirky person you will find. And watching her live is mesmerizing. And as others have said, you should check out the live version of this at Haik. You will see her amazing back up singer Silja Sol. In this live performance she gets a surprised too which makes the song even cooler.

I'm going to disagree. Usually you are correct, for example "It Happened Quiet" live at The Current just slays me while the studio version is just okay, but "The Seed" is the one exception I've run across where the "official" video is more powerful than the live versions. Her ability to layer in the various imagery in the video, and her ability to really make the chorus pop with vocal processing in the studio version, combine to make it even more powerful than the live versions where she's limited by her voice, which is an excellent voice but let's face it, she's not a metal singer and without help her voice can't reach the full aggressiveness that it reached in this version's chorus.

@@sketchspost Just watched the Haik version since you mentioned it. The men's choir popping in made her face light up, then she got a feral look of glee on her face as she realized in an instant how she could use that choir to put some power behind the chorus instead of the subdued chorus she had been prepared to do. Is a feral woods nymph a thing? If so, I think I just saw it!

Aurora started playing music and writing songs (in Norwegian) when she was 6, and then in English when she was 9 (now she is 25). She is a singer, songwriter, composer and producer. Her live performances are extraordinary. She is what you call a true empath, very close to nature and down to earth, highly talented and highly intelligent, always positive and funny. She really does talk to their fans, whom she calls warriors and wierdos. She is an absolute free spirit. Aurora's movements are partly not rehearsed in her concerts. She is introverted and she shows her feelings through involuntary body movements. Then even more than today, which was also due to her excitement. She hates backtracks and, that's why she has a backround singer. Everything about her and her music is real. You get what you see, whether on stage or elsewhere. She doesn't do anything she doesn't stand for. She fights for all minorities and for them she mainly makes music. Of course, she makes music for everyone, but her songs are mostly about humanity and an appeal to everyone for tolerance towards their fellow human beings. Billie Eilish, she started her career because of Aurora. Her song "Runaway" was the trigger And at Aurora, the lyrics are always important. She really has stories to tell. Not this mainstream crap. If you want to know what else Aurora stands for besides protecting nature. Watch the official video "Queendom".

I think you will find Aurora very interesting and pleasing if you continue listening to her. She is super expressive when performing, and her lyrics are great and always meaningful. As for this song live, I would recommend the HAIK performance. She has a huge number of fantastic videos, like Winter Bird, Queendom, Running with the Wolves, The River and Daydreamer, just to mention a few. And you must see her live at Nobel 2015 with Murder Song and Runaway, and from Nidarosdomen with Through the Eyes of a Child and It Happened Quiet. A there is a lot more, she is only 25 and has this huge catalogue of self written songs. Have a nice ride, I 'm quite certain you'll enjoy it tremendously.

Aurora has said that the face paint she wears in this video is a representation of showing your inner emotions on the outside. Under her eyes represent tears and the ones on the sides of her eyes represent laughter lines.

  • @Abbadonhades
    @Abbadonhades3 жыл бұрын

The make up is to externalize particular feelings. The lines in your face when you laugh or cry. So they are not tribal in the traditional sense. Aurora has said part jokingly and part seriously, that she can't wait to get the lines in her face that old people have. Aurora has two sisters. One of them is a make up artist, and the other is a costume designer. Together they have created the clothes and the visual style that Aurora goes for. Aurora started making music at age 6 and added lyrics from age 9. She did several years of dance training when she was younger, and can absolutely do choreographed dancing, but often prefers to do variants of interpretive dance. Aurora was not interested in becoming an artist originally, but was told by her mother that she had a gift that she should not keep to herself.

Possibly one of the most important Artists of her generation. As for most talented....she IS. Between her 3 albums and one off songs....her talent is blatantly clear. I'm 52 into 80s metal, Floyd, Yes Beatles, Young Rush etc.....and I haven't found an Artist in last 30 years that I find to be the whole package....until 6 months ago when I found Aurora. Thank you for discovering the second of my favourite Norwegian singers. Aurora was born in Norway on 15 Jun 1996, She is an incredibly talented singer/songwriter and to date has written nearly 30 songs. I hope you will continue your journey of discovering her. I am teetering on the edge of my 90th birthday and have become ashamed that my generation and that of my children have made such a mess of the world, but there are three young women who give me hope that they have the power to change the mindset of all humans for the better. The three are Angelina Jordan and Aurora, both Norwegian, and Greta Thunberg (Swedish). I know for certain that Angelina and Greta know one another, but not certain that Aurora knows o\either of the other two.

Regarding the face paint, clothing, and armbands, they are derived from traditional Norwegian folk art. There is a Norwegian graphic artist that I follow and I have seen similar imagery in her own works, which have nothing to do with Native American peoples. Aurora is from Norway, so the fact that she would delve into the deep archives of Norwegian folk art for her own stylistic choices is not surprising.

If you are curious about a live version i recommend "Aurora - The Seed Haik Concert" Its a concert held in the forest in Norway right near her childhood home :) No she does not do the interpretive dance, but she does many of the hand movements and emotes ALOT throughout the song. There is also a male choir that steps forward during the song, which she did not know would be there. The whole concert was a surprise, the only thing she knew was that she would hold a small concert somewhere after a Norwegian documentary.

Aurora's live performances are all a bit different and amazing she does different arrangements for live performances and her band does the backup singing. She has a really good band. She writes and produces her own songs and has been writing since a very young age. Her tribal paint is her nod at makeup she doesn't go overboard on that and her sister Miranda does what makeup she has, Her other sister Viktoria does a lot of her clothes. This song 'The Seed' is one of her more focused environmental messages. A lot of her songs are very emotional. She writes some amazing harmonies and her songs mostly have some intensity to them. Her song 'in the eyes of a child' for instance is brilliantly emotional... try and catch the stripped Vevo version of that one... to me it is her most powerful sad song and its beautiful and the Vevo one is the best performance of the song and its mostly acapella. Aurora is very unique and its not a put on. She is very authentic. She is a brilliant composer, producer and performer. She is winning hearts around the world with her warm relationship she has to her audience and her fans. She calls her fans and herself warriors and weirdo's. Also in her band (for a long while , but now has gone off to do other things) is Silja Sol and when Aurora and Silja harmonise together its pretty breath taking. I have her 3 albums so far and every track is exceptional. I would rate her as one of the best ever artists. Mostly I listen to Prog rock and Heavy metal so to tempt me off genre to rate a pop singer is unusual, but Aurora's version of pop is deeper and more intense than is usual for the pop genre. Her songs seem to have a progressive development and intensity way above 'normal pop'. Even though the chord structures are familiar ones she injects a magic to her melodies and harmonies. She's unique!

Thank you Molly for that very insightful reaction! Aurora is the total package - singer, songwriter, musician, dancer, producer/arranger, choreographer, and an absolutely lovely human being (and she’s just 25 years old!). She will often perform her songs quite differently - sometimes with her band, other times stripped down to just her and one instrument, a cappella, with full orchestra, etc. - so it is definitely worth listening to different versions of the same song. Also, some of her videos are mini-masterpieces as well. A short list of original songs: Runaway - Nobel Peace Prize concert and her music video Through the Eyes of a Child - Nidarosdomen concert, my recommendation Live Stripped - VIVO UK Lift: kzread.info/dash/bejne/dXqup9qOfpS0aKw.html It Happened Quiet - Nidarosdomen concert, but I'd recommend the live at The Current version as well: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a4lhsJiFod3KebA.html Churchyard - Live on KEXP Winter Bird - Nidarosdomen concert and her music video Murder Song 5,4,3,2,1 - Nobel Peace Prize Concert Lucky - Nidarosdomen concert Little Boy in the Grass - Nidarosdomen concert The Seed - Music Video, HAIK Concert The River - Music video, Live in Bergen 2020 Exist For Love - Music video, Daydreamer - Music video She also does some awesome covers: Life on Mars - David Bowie Believer - Imagine Dragons God is a Woman - Ariana Grande Across the Universe - John Lennon Teardrop - Massive Attack

Very detailed reaction. Nice. Please look up the lyrics. They are of such great quality and intense. To me the use of the image of the seed is a metafor of herself wanting to be the seed of awareness and the instigator of change in our behaviour. The fun part to me is the line 'we are burnin our fingers, but learn and forgive', but the way it is recorded you could also interpret them as 'we are burning our fingers, but we learn and forget' powerfully supported by her bodylanguage. I just love her. Look up Through The Eyes Of A Child, any live performance. They all are unique in their own manner.

She was performing the song live for over a year before the studio version. The live versions (there are multiple) are more... muted... for obvious reasons. She has good backup singers but can't layer her own voice or put the specific vocal processing onto the chorus that she put into the studio version. And obviously she's more limited in her movements by the fact that she has to sing and haul a microphone around. She still manages to land it though.

AURORA does an amazing live version of this song in the 2019 HAIK Concert, which she performs appropriately enough in a forest. Please do react to more from AURORA: just about anything at all from her Nidarosdomen concert (with orchestral ensemble and choir; perhaps THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD or LUCKY)! For something really amped up: her 2018 KEXP performance, esp. the songs ALL IS SOFT INSIDE and CHURCHYARD! She has quite a repertoire! Incidentally, during the bridge in THE SEED video, she softly recites a poem she wrote in the background. AURORA also has a new music video just released (CURE FOR ME), which references the Tim Burton film Alice in Wonderland, and which she personally directed and did the artwork for.

Suggest the concert Nidarosdomen, and in particular the songs Lucky, Murder, Through the Eyes of a Child, in that concert. Also, you would enjoy her without instruments, Vido Stripped: Through the Eyes of a Child. Aurora is also a favorite of those tiny radio station live performances because she brings the A game to those venues, making recording quality products for them. Suggest Churchyard, God is a Woman and the Nobel Peace prize version of Murder Song. And to answer your question, yes, she does that when she is live. An incredibly captivating live performer. I am a little late with my comment but, I like her live performances better that her videos. I am sure many will probably agree with me. Enjoy. Thanks for jumping down or into the Aurora rabbit whole. One more thing in the last couple of months I have been hearing her and her song on mainstream radio...song is "Runaway".

As has been mentioned by others, I would now really recommend listening to this song in a live performance - HAIK concert kzread.info/dash/bejne/o4WFxpegfs6vp7g.html - this concert is in a forest. Aurora is surprised when some performers join her unexpectedly (arranged in advance as part of the documentary that this performance is from). This is one of her few performances where you made the right choice of watching the official video as your first exposure, rather than live. Her live performances are absolutely incredible, though. Aurora is definitely unique. And yes, she dances like that live as well, depending on the performance, venue, etc. I hope you continue to explore her work, as there is quite a bit to enjoy. Her most recent video, for her new song, Cure For Me, is great as well, though very different. It is much more of a pop song, though still with a great message.

You have started a ride of your life. I suggest Runaway(the official video) then working from there. Aurora's live performances are much better than her studio recordings. She does not use auto tune. Aurora's natural voice and overall talent is perfection.

Oh, Aurora is amazing artist. Can I recommend another amazing female artist? Can you react to japanese artist Kokia and her song "Chouwa Oto" live version from History concert tour 2012? Kokia is really amazing, but not really known. He make music in genres like folk, pop, indie, classical crossover etc., she has classical and operatic music education, but only in few songs she singing more operatic (for example song "Il Mare Dei Suoni"). Song "Chouwa Oto" is one of her most popular songs and that live performance is amazing, she is amazing in studio, but live she is even better. Can you react to her? And if you like songs with that kind of meanings, I really want to suggest you jaoanese rock/metal band Girugämesh and their song "Kowarete Iku Sekai" (Broken World), it's the most emotional song which I ever heard, and so true... I think more people should listen this song... If you can, please react music video with english subs.

Aurora has several different versions of many songs.... No, she does not do it like in the video. If you (off camera) look at this song at the Haik Concert, you will se a powerful "same type" preformance as this. She was also surprised by a male choir joined in at Haik. If you (off camera) look at this song from this year Earth Hour you will see her more "soft" acustic version. Often you will find the best versions in live preformances. This song, for me, this video bringes someting extra so I like this best.... 5% more than the Haik version 😎. She had a concert in Nidarosdomen Cathedral, the Cathedral in Norway where we crown our king&queen. It was a huge discussions about alowing non christian content in it. It had nothing to do with Aurora, but it was a lot of "noice" before it was allowed. In addisjon NRK (Norwegian brodcaster) moved in with the entire crew and "taped it" to be sent between xmas and new year. It was added strings, harp, male choir and the huge 10.000 pipe organ. It was a huge thing for a small artist like Aurora..... Aurora "feeds" off the situation and venu, and delivers a mindblowingly fantastic concert. Check out Through the eyes of a child from Nidarosdomen concert.

I personally like Aurora's quieter performances for the most part (this version of "The Seed" excepted), but yes, Aurora definitely did feel the size of the cathedral and filled it. Usually she is an almost delicate performer but she was really belting it out at Nidarosdomen.

In general, I think you'd benefit from pausing when you make comments. Both because it difficult to hear your voice over the music, but also as you're missing out on the lyrics. Loved your reaction, though.

Her enunciation in live performances is often even clearer than in the studio performances. She is a very precise singer. No slop there. She has firm control of her instrument (her voice) and uses it exactly the way she wants to use it depending upon the circumstances and setting. For example, the tiny bit of vibrato she put on certain phrases in "It Happened Quiet" (the version at The Current) was no accident, she was deliberately trying to make those phrases sound fragile and pull at the heartstrings.... and succeeded.

___.This Aurora song sounds like a song recorded four years earlier by Natalia LaFourcade called Desde Las Raices. In some parts in the phrasing and melody it sounds exactly the same. Sorry Aurora but the similarities are obvious. And she doesn't even give credit to Natalia for the song in the song credits LOL !!!!!!
