Man, you always seem to have the exact video on something I’m needing help with at the right time! Thank you so much 🙏🏼

In any case the ADC chip is usually the weaker link in an interface's loop so if you need a full jump in performance above Scarlett you gotta go to really expensive gear like top of the line RME. A midway solution could be Motu's UltraLite MK5 claiming -113dB THD+N line in spec.

I am a huge MOTU fanboy :) but one of the odd things about the M2 & M4 is that when your headphone knob is turned up, it seems to introduce distortion on the Input sections of the units.... fortunately, i dont use the headphone volume so this has not been an issue for me... just sharing this incase you run into distortion issues with mic measurements

Maybe you used tip sleeve jacks and not tip ring sleeve jacks? Because the Motu doesn't use crosscoupled outputs and if one phase is shorted it will distorr. Possibly the scarlet is crosscoupled.

Hm, I did use TS jacks indeed🤔 they do work on the scarlet though.

@@RAW-CAt There's some note in the Motu manual about that

What are your thoughts on a Scarlett Solo 3rd for an audio interface to measure impulse and phase? (I can get it for a decent deal, and it is USB-C) Thanks

Great device and will do what you need👍 If the price is good - take it.

ive been searching for a 2i2 forever it seems and when my son heard my dilemma he said "I have one of those dad". well he sure did but its not a 2i2, its a scarlett 6i6. it seems quite a bit more complicated. are you familiar with this device and if so will it work for audio tuning?

Yes, it will work just fine. The 6i6 is the same as 2i2 just scaled up with more inputs and outputs. It will be a bigger device, a bit more clunkier, but functionally it's the same.

thank you for the reply@@RAW-CAt . i had been studying up for the past month or so on the 2i2. still a bit overwhelmed with the 6i6. i do have some questions i would like to toss @ you. i have been using the u-mik and the audiofrog kit. this interface has no inputs that will accept either of those, (usb1 or 1/4" 3mm aux) it will however accept this other mic i have, a dbx-rta mic but it has no calibration file and i have never actually used it. guess im asking if i need a new mic or can i use a 3mm to 6.35mm mono adapter for andys mic? ive been soldering cables all weekend and still not sure what cable combination to get this measuring started. tried one of those loopback cables you did a video on. somehow screwed it up, connected all positive to positive neg to neg and when i was done checked continuity and they all sounded off beeped no matter where i made contact thought it would beep only tip to tip or sleeve to sleeve but it sounds off when i touch leads tip to sleeve, thats no good. i am using my stock sony HU, AmpPro interface back to oem amp then to helix v12 and jl-audio hd1200.1, using toslink only for input. thank you for your time and videos. they really are informative and helpful.

On the M4 1K sine test, it looks like you measured the DAC of one interface using the ADC of a different one. This is not valid because the clocks do not match. One interface is running at 48000.01 and the other at 47999.99, this causes a lot of problems with the maths. Having both interfaces connected while only using one can also cause this issue. The OS inserts an ASRC (asynchronous sample rate conversion) to get both clocks to match. The FFT plot looks like the sine frequency is slight +- the FFT bin frequency. I tested the M4 and it seems ok as long as you do not use a usb-c to c cable, which cause some issues with channels 3 and 4. It does not use zero phase half-band filters so if you want to measure phase, you need a different interface. Here is my review of the M4 along with the software I use to test this sort of thing. kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y52GuKqymbK-kso.html

I measured each interface on it's own and only one connected at a time. When connected the Motu, the Starlet was unplugged. I tried all 3 USB ports on my laptop, each time after a fresh reboot. I used a normal usb to USB C cable, actually 3 of them. Tried older asio drivers as well. Tried using java drivers. All measurements come clback with the same results. Scarlett works every time🤷🏻‍♂️.

@@RAW-CAt It sounds like you did everything correct so the results should be valid. I am not sure what was going on, but the 1K sine FFT really looks like what would happen if the sine frequency was in between FFT bins.
