Those wire breaks are always a pain! I admire your dedication to do things correctly, many would be tempted to take shortcuts...as you found out..... Again a great job! Congrats!

You went again above and beyond Luis. In my case I would have diagnosed it and sent it back to the place it came from. Just to keep my frustration level down. But I did learn a few new words for heat shrink🤣

Nice work Luis! You can save yourself loads of stripdown work if you use a tone and probe kit for finding opens and high resistances. CPC do one for about £36 (IN05683) I use mine many times a week. If your tests show the wire is open, apply the signal generator at one end and ground the other. You will get a step change in signal at the fault point. If you don't ground the other end of the wire though, the signal will go through the green crusties to the other end and you'll never find the fault. Did a similar repair on an Octavia, that wired straight into the ABS module too. Additionally that had a third tail for the ride height sensor for the headlamp levelling, which had also failed.

Hi I do have a power probe... But not everyone does... I always try to show how to do things in the simplest way... But yes, the power probe would pick that up quickly... 👍👍👍

When you mention "ground the other" do you mean ground the other end of the suspect wire or the other wire of the toner ?

no wonder so many young guys are looking for 1970s motors .. £70k and the loom fails? each to his own I suppose, anyhow you got it fixed but a lot of work and it could have been a lot of expense, I can remember when it used to be fun. lol 😊 👍

@simonparkinson1053

Because someone had no clue about circuit operation so fitted a different cluster after chopping the connectors at the wear sensors didn't work. They swapped the dial face sheet but forgot about the startup splash screen software?
@HiruS22
2 жыл бұрын
@@simonparkinson1053 I thought it must be something like that but I thought the cluster on all VW group cars was linked into the immobiliser and component protection. There really are some clowns about, makes you think more about who has tinkered before you when buying a used car.

@Simon Parkinson Would not surprise me... I have seen a bit of everything.... 😅
I'd understand if someone would continue wiring with Abikos if brake job was done by some amateur at home. But if that's done in some actual "professional" workshop. Well that's horrible job then 😬 *edit: oh boy it got even worse 😮

That front loom fails in every VAG from time to time. It's like with the door latches. They never had that properly sorted and fails for decades now. Personally I think that VAG looms are the worst kind along with Ford. BMW wiring at the top for me.

In my experience some 70% of faults on cars are the result of bodges from other 'mechanics'. There's a big lack of people like you who understand electronics.
