I finally saw an RS5 coupe on the road the other day, and I was incredibly impressed. The car looks so much better than comparable BMWs and Mercedes-Benz 2-doors. Too bad it isn't as powerful but costs the same money here. Though there are plenty of tuning companies that can fix that problem for less than a grand with an ecu tune.

RS5 always is a better choice. Performamce is not noticeable. 0-160 Audi is faster than rivals. BMW and Merc will catch but believe it or not, after 260kmh Audi is still faster

Thanks for your detailed review Thomas. This is a good alternative to 911 at $40000 USD cheaper and hp similar to 911S. Appreciate your comments comparing them to BMW, etc. Unfortunately, US dealers don't seem to have these on their lots, or even S5's.

Excellent review and driving demonstration of this RS5. I currently own a 2018 S5 Sportback and thinking of moving up the ladder to the RS5 Sportback. Model year 2021. And, yes, they do get expensive, but really, why the heck not. Beautiful automobile.

The a/s/rs5 is probably one of my favorite car designs, brand not withstanding although at this point I think I'd probably be justly called a fanboy. While this generation has definitely grown on me especially loving the shape of the tail and brake lights (leased an a5 from first year of B9) I still think the previous generation post facelift may be the best looking car overall. Just so simple and clean yet flowing, like a paradoxical precision muscle car. Ended up moving to one of the new s6s because this motor is great even if it isnt a raucous v8, especially when you slap the mild hybrid and 48v supercharger, feels incredibly smooth and powerful and when you kick open the valves in the exhaust i think it sounds really neat, no matter what trickery is involved. I like the low key stealthy feel of the sedan... I do miss that gorgeous a5 tail constantly though.

Best channel for car reviews no doubts, however, Thomas, if you can also include in every review of the interior if the armrest is adjustable (front/back and angle, like in VW Golf for example) it would be awesome. I feel like it's not as important for most people, but for many the armrest is crucial considering a new car. Best regards :)

RS5 is my favorite Audi model :)

Love the Audi A/S/RS 5, definitly my favorite Audi, if not favorite car. If this car is 120k in Germany it'll probably be some 160k in the Netherlands...Still...If I had that kind of money to spend on a car this would be the top pick I guess. I mean, it's a tough choice between RSQ8 and RS6, but then, those would be another 100k (but you'll get a V8). The 5 is just so elegant looking. Jup, a sportback for me please and thank you. Great review guys!

Hi, very nice review. Could you write something about the difference between S5 and RS5 in car reaction to the throttle? I thing that's the main reason to go to RS5 instead of S5. Am I right?

Nice review, as always. 😎 I'd like to see the pre-facelift front with facelift rear and tail-lights. That would be my "facelift" But if I'd buy RS5, it still would be the one with the NA V8. For the sound and character.

Hi Thomas, not quite the beautiful car that Walter DeSilva designed a few years ago, but it still looks great. Terrific review. My favorite Audi RS model. They should have never made the 4 door version of the A5. The older ones are still selling for high dollar values in California.

@@MathiasBacher That's good that you do. I simply think they were doing fine with just the coupe version. And the older models were smaller than this new one and more elegant in my opinion. I'd prefer one of the first S5's that came out.

it's true that sometimes less is more, RS5 has simple lines but i a way that makes it so attractive!

I personally prefer the new taillights on this car, however I admit the previous generation had more aggressive headlights. I wish they incorporated this new technology into the older style, would work perfectly!

Arman Jina A5 2017-2019 shape headlights looked more aggressive because it’s the same front LED lights design as the Audi R8 2019

Totally agree about the climate controls. I have a 2017 A4 Allroad (your video helped with the decision to buy actually!) and I love the climate controls. I've seen where Audi is going with the two screens in the newer cars and I don't like it.

Totally agree. This HVAC unit in the 4 and 5 series is much easier to use than the new 2-screen models (7 and 8 series). Some don't like the "tacked on" look of the new MMI touch screen, but the position of it is line-of-sight when driving, as the review points out, so I like it (the screen will very likely be more incorporated into the dash in the forthcoming B10 models). The MMI touchscreen is much better for using CarPlay than the older rotary knob version. I have a 2018 Navarra Blue S5 Sportback and a 2021 RS5 Nardo gray coupe with glossy black optics. Prefer the S5 for long highway drives (softer suspension, better mileage, and more spacious and easier handling for luggage), but take the RS5 on auto club drives in the mountains for its power and road feel. My wife loves daily driving the RS5 because she gets lots of admirers commenting on how beautiful it is (so is she!). Older V8 did have more roar but 2.9L six has more torque and is noisy enough for me. Great review. He got just about everything right about the RS5, pro and con.

The more I see this car, the more I like it.

As much as I love the RS5 and the S5 for that matter, I'd much more rather have the option of selecting what the 5 range has in it's options broght accross the entire range of the Audi 5 series! Perhaps the lovly tan/brown seats from the A5 yet available in the S5/RS5! That way I can build/buy the car "I" want! Not the take it or leave it mentality so common with these premium automakers from Germany/global nameplates of today's auto manufactures.

Audi exclusive will give you all the options imaginable. Almost no restrictions on colour, stitching etc.

The only real German car reviews has to be with a German guy, it makes it REAL!!!

It’s a great car, but the price is nuts! Trust me, I had to move up to a premium package on a 65k car just to get adaptive cruise control on my 2020 bmw M340ix...I cried when I looked at my payments lol...

It’s a shame the infotainment system is touch-screen-only. I miss the scrolling wheel interface down by the gear shifter. It’s so much better to use when you’re driving.

I never take the suspension out of comfort mode. NEVER! Adaptive suspension is the only thing I would wish for.

Interesting they gave the RS5 laser lights and not the RS4, illogical in a facelift. Engine sounds slightly different (tuned differently to RS4) as well as exhaust, even with the particulate filter hmm.. Thomas any clues? Great review as usual, shame Audi charge silly amounts specially for the A5 compared to A4 just because they can. S4/5 with petrol was the perfect car. 120k is basically RS6 money and that has more standard equipment. Love Audi , but they messed up the A4/5 in this facelift; lights, control knob gone, touch screen only (why). Still better than Mercedes (cheap materials) and BMW (silly fat steering wheel) for sure.

This is definitely one of my favorite cars!! It's a shame it still has their old infotainment setup though ...

I love the new design of the RS5, however even the 340i sounds better than this! I personally have the old 4.2L V8 RS5 and I miss that soundtrack!

I’d like to eventually get an RS5, but first I need a promotion at work.

I love the older model with a V8 4.0
