Audi Q5 A5 Coolant leak removing broken bypass hose from radiator coolant bottle broken plastic clip

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

This a video about taking caution when removing the broken plastic from your aldi radiator or coolant expansion bottle or both any gentle pressure sideways can result in a cracked radiator even if the vehicles only 5 or 6 years old. Luckily the plastic of the bypass hose is soft compared to the brittle radiator in saying that use extreme caution and be patient I forgot to mention in the video that I did use silicone and lithium spray Grease to help soften and move the plastic tube

Thanks mate for the video… saved me from having to replace my A5 radiator… I used a Chinese take out chopstick to removed the broken tip from the radiator nozzle. The chopstick fits snugly into the tubing and the stuck tubing comes right out !!!

I have the same issue. I got the broken piece out of the expansion tank but not the radiator end. I got the o ring out but the rest is still stuck so I can't attach new hose. I lost patience and couldn't deal with being off the road for such a silly issue so since the whole idea is to get the coolant from radiator to the bottle, I did a little diy hack and bought a 5/8 hose and cut it to the length and fitted it onto the nipple of both ends and secured with a clamp. It works fine.

Good idea… I managed to remove the broken hose that was stuck in the radiator end by inserting a Chinese take out chopstick carefully and the whole broken tip came out easily! If that didn’t work you idea beats buying a new radiator

@@johnnysanchez9237 Still works slight leak at end of the hose at top. But leak has been small like a drop from max line to half over a 2 month period. I probably just need to tighten clamp more.

I have a 2012 Q5 2.0. I topped it off with the purple/pink coolant about a week ago to the max line and now it's back to halfway between mix and max. Does this issue apply to this year of car? I'm doing an oil change in a week or two, got the Mahle oil filter off Amazon (hate doing it cause I gotta take off that whole underside plastic shield). I don't suck it up through the pour hole like they do at the dealer, plus I changed the horrible stripped Torx screw plug with a 17mm hex oil plug, so much better! When I do the oil change I will check for leaks at the hoses. Anyways, not sure if its a blown gasket head and I don't want to take it into the shop now with Covid 19 and all, but I don't think those pressure tests are cheap. Any suggestions? Known issues besides these 2 leaking points you mention in this video and the last? I've never owned an Audi before this. Only Hyundai's. Still getting used to the differences between German and Korean cars .

What would you suggest if you think you may have cracked the lip trying to remove the plastic from the radiator ? Replace the radiator ?

@@Henry-nr3sf you just pull the retainer clip up and pull the hose out. When putting it back in push the clip down first then slide the hose in until you hear it click into place.
