FYI guys: winch rope is great but it is unreliable unless you pull it out and wash it after every ride. I learned the hard way a few times that as sweet as it is, mud and dirt will make it a solid block in the winch (wench? lol) when it dries. I have been screwed trying to get it to come out; even anchoring to a tree and pulling it with my Grizzly 700 to try and free it. I even pulled it as tight as it would go with the atv spinning tires, then locked the brake and went and STOOD on the line to free it, with no luck. That was just one instance. It also freezes during the winter rides. NOT cool. lol

Been using rope in a open winch on my crawlers for years. Never had an issue.

@@donschlonski2936 Live in Kansas City. Wheel Tuttle Creek and Colorado mostly. Open buggies so don't wheel in the winter months. Just summer months. Hate mud and water. Only crawl rocks. So maybe that's my saving grace.

So what you're saying is you don't take care of your shit. Not the winch's fault.

@@srvdean3024 hey s*** stain! I take care of my s*** all too well. But you can't wash winch rope and unroll it in the winter you dang nerd. Plus there are times when you just can't spend 2 hours washing it after a long day's ride. What a dope

You should take a look at KFI winches. They have a brand new 5000 lbs ATV/UTV series winch.

3k winch is enough for ATV, comeUP and Warn are 2 to look at. Others are 50/50, maybe you get lucky, often don't.

I have a Can am Maverick. I had a situation where I couldnt assist a family stuck deep in sand in the desert by normaling pulling. There car (a ford explorer) seemed way to heavy for my little buggy. I'd like to know if I installed a winch on the buggy, would this succes in pulling a heavy 4x4 out of sand?

Great Question, MC - what a rough situation to get into! Winches are great, but the right people to tell you if a winch would aid in that situation is going to be our tech team - give them a call 1-800-969-7501 - they're great folks that really know their stuff.

I think if I had a 3000 lb wench I'd divorce her and go get myself a far lighter wench, like maybe one in the 110 to 130 lb range.

Speaking of winching. I have a 2019 canam Outlander Max with a warn winch. It has never been used and just last week I had a plow mounted to it at the dealership. My machine has 198 miles on it and I use the plow for 10 minutes and the switch on the handlebar kept clicking and won't pick up the blade. After looking up warn winch on the Internet it appears the solenoid tends to be the issue in most cases especially on can am or ATV winches. I really thought Warn had the best respect and brand on the market but it appears Not so much in ATV applications. Can anybody on this tread recommend a better brand or is this normal for these to go out like this? I'm calling warn on Monday and see if will be covered by a warranty. I also checked the contacts and loose wires. All appears good.
