I agree the sink strainers are annoying you have to touch all the gross stuff to empty it out. I usually take it out too

I use those for things for the sink, cause I think it's nasty to touch the food leftovers. After I have cleaned the sink I take out that thing and let it stay in dish washing soap and rinse aid (blue cleaning agent for the dishes), so it becomes clean and smells nice.
