Attempt to bring back New Orleans Lincoln Beach - a hangout for African-Americans during segregation

Lincoln Beach, once a place of fun for African-Americans in New Orleans who were denied access to other parts of the lakefront. Now, there's talk of bringing it back

There is so much beauty and promise there! I hope they find a way to safely open this historic beach! Seems like a great place for festivals as well!

I am glad that there was a relatively safe beach for African Americans to enjoy in NewOrleans. The park looked like a fun, clean place with pools and rides. Pictures show swimming lessons and diving board competitions and many good memories and fun. Someone spent a lot of money to make this place better than most pools or parks in the sixties. The past can be ugly but New Orleans shows us it’s history is exciting vibrant too. It is sad it closed but segregation was necessary to allow people to share each other’s lives and cultures. 💕♥️♥️❤️🙏🌅

It says a lot, though, that Lincoln Beach closed. It meant it was the lesser of the two beaches. Too bad it wasn't kept open, desegregated and developed.

Not all Jim Crow was Doom and gloom. Looking at the photos of Lincoln Beach it look like a completely charming place. I know in Austin the Austin State hospital had separate dorms and a cafeteria for black patients . Just a few years ago they tore the building down. For its time in 1957 it look like an exquisite cafeteria for black patients. I would have dinex there myself. I wish they would keep the building and the history alive. We all need to remember. And it could have been utilized again.

Celebrate with all cultures?, that's why the beach was closed down in the first place because we gave it up for social intergration. You have to make this issue just about black people not everybody else.

okay? haha the guy pushing this to make this a reality knows more history on that beach then anyone and hes saying he wants to share the history and culture with everyone. yet you watch a 4 minute video and you think you have a right to say something like that, just because your black? that's racist and stupid to say in 2020. we come too far from where we were to be dumbed down by your comment..

@@ratedzak6935 Rated Zak Yeah he do know a lot of history about that beach, that's why it mystified me that he want to share it with the same people that Blew up the Levees and displaced/ drowned millions of black children, black elderly, whole entire black households to suppress the black population in 2005. You say i'm a racist, racism is a practice which white people use everyday against black people. Black people can't create laws and policies that can stop white folks from living in a certain area, blacks can't stop white people from attending a all black school, blacks can't deprive whites from their humanity, exclude whites from competing economically etc. You say we came too far,GTFOH it's the same racism( it's just more diabolical). I have books in my house that white authors published admitting to being the cause of contaminating the water, gentrification, spreading diseases, supplying guns& drugs etc. in Black neighborhoods/Africa for their own person/material gain. All are #1 Best Sellers By the way. I care only about protecting the Black children against falsehoods and lies that is constantly inculcating them.
