Bob, if I may suggest. Always carry a bear banger with you. The one from tru-flare is like a pen and you screw either flares of bear bangers. That should do the job and the "cartridge" can reach 50 to 75 feet before detonating.

had the same thing happen to me. Moose butted the hood of my tundra as he was about to do it a second time I reached over the ski-doo and gave him a good right upside his head. He then backed off... It was just reflex and it was lucky for me and the ski-doo the smack inside the head backed him off. Intense times on the ski-doo trail.

You did the best you could…..this has happened twice for me with young kids. We just held back like you were trying to do, once on a snowmobile and the other on an ATV. I always remembered my Uncle telling me that he was almost mauled by a moose…..he had one shot left in his rifle and turned and made a clean shot. People need to be aware that moose can be deadly…..I have also seen people try to feed wild animals from their car. I have been to Newfoundland once when I was around 10 years old, never forget it. I would love to do a snowmobile or ATV adventure one of these days.

I had a close encounter with a moose on the highway back in June. Moose came out of the median of the highway right in front of me. Car was written off but my wife and I were totally fine. I have dash cam footage of the accident and posted a video on my channel. Many people don't realize how dangerous moose can be whether in the woods or on the highway........Take care, Bluefin.

I remember walking home from the Gander airport after a night shift and encountering a young bull moose.. Its surprising how big they are but this one was accustomed to people so it just sniffed the air and then walk into the bush. I also encountered a cow moose in Stephenville and that was definitely a close encounter. I walked around a corner of a building and she was there, 5ft away. Yikes!

That’s interesting. There is another video on KZread somewhere, where another bloke was in a similar situation to you with a bull blocking access and refusing to give way. After a short while the moose came down the track and kicked him. He wasn’t hurt and waited a while but the bull came back and was about to attack him again. The man pulled a hand gun and fired a warning shot but the bull still didn’t yield, so he shot it about three times and then the wounded bull staggered to the right hand side to lay in the snow and he passed. It was a tough one; he gave it every chance he could but he didn’t seem to have much choice in the end.

That was a close call. Many years ago I had a large bull walk up to within 5’ of me. He was in rut and grunting. I stood still and spoke to him softly. He eventually walked away. I know I was lucky he didn’t clobber me. We also used to have a cow moose on our land that would follow me and hang out when I was walking on trails. The winter tick has decimated our moose herd here in New Hampshire. Keep the videos coming. Love them.

Good day Bob, after meeting and talking to you in Walmart parking lot the other day Jackie and I were really looking forward to seeing this video, luckily the moose didn't do anymore damage to your sled. Glad to see you didn't get injured. As for the windshield that's a great repair job, all the best, remember if your ever in Gull Pond road drop by the cabin for a visit.

Bob, if I may suggest. Always carry a bear banger with you. The one from tru-flare is like a pen and you screw either flares of bear bangers. That should do the job and the "cartridge" can reach 50 to 75 feet before detonating.

If your Massachusetts you probably could have Newfoundland blood considering the 10s of thousands of people that moved there from here for the fishing industry And other trades.
From a hunter, human, appreciation of wildlife and knowing that young moose won’t survive much longer standpoint…. We should be able to handle situations like that on our own judgement but too many would abuse it. Either way it was a close call for sure ! Great video and thanks for sharing ! Take care Bob

had the same thing happen to me.

Wow that must have given you a good start! Poor moose didn't want to give up his trail especially when he was hurt. Glad you weren't injured. Nice patch job on the windshield.

Yikes!

Fixing things with what you have is the mark of a real woodsman. I have seen that same hip injury on a cow moose 15 miles from the nearest road but a biologist told me it was hit by a car. A moose is so large a fall could dislocate a hip. Thanks!

Love them.

Might be a good idea to start to bring along one of those bear bangers. The load noise might have scared it of the trail. Many years of snowmobiling I have done the same with the stitching of the windshield. The cost of new ones kind of suck.

I've learnt that if you leave the machine shut off they aren't likely to attack especially if the rut is over. It's the noise that bothers them. It makes them uneasy not sure of what's happening.
