I also really like how Marco's words are also embodied by Armin - who we may have seen have been meme'd a lot because he had always asked people to negotiate first before anything. It's just interesting to have two characters who are close to Jean - Marco, of course, and Armin (Isayama-sensei revealed that Jean and Armin were supposed to be a singular character to represent humanity) to instill the need to talk things out first, and with Jean echoing the same sentiment in this episode.

Armin says talking DOES work because the captured Marleyans actually warmed up to them, and actually saw each other as humans. The problem was they didn't get a chance to talk to the majority of people of Marley and the world, because Eren went all on his own and forced an invasion.

Like the canon, Annie, Bertholdt, all of them. In s2 and 3 he tries to use words to bait and trap them cause it's useful to manipulate. His character degrades and he forgets this in s4. There would be know global mlk speech lol they declared war on them and they all hate them. Some changing fordnt change the fact that the majority won't. @@bonzoluv When did they actually get a chance for diplomacy between the islanders and the world? They hate them and declared war because they never tried diplomacy. I would totally be a Jaegerist if they actually tried to the fullest extent, and then using the rumbling as a last resort, because then the world would show that they are a lost cause. But the biggest wrench in the story is the stupid 13 year curse. Of course the world isn't gonna get talk-no-justu'd overnight. Even real life peace isn't achieved overnight.

Annie wasn't joking, or being a bitch when she said "What about me?" To Jean. The anime cut out a line (botching the scene, imo.) Immediately after Jean says to Reiner "I'm not apologizing. . " and Reiner says "That's fine." Jean says, "I can't forgive you. . " THATS what Annie was replying to. She was asking if he considered her unforgivable, not asking him for an apology. The anime ALSO cut out Annie tending to Reiner's wounds after Reiner got the shit kicked out of him by Jean. They really didn't wanna humanize her this episode for some reason.

Tending to Reiner's wounds? It didn't suit Annie's character though. That's probably why they didn't include that. Annie seems to be aloof from everyone including Bert and Reiner but it doesn't mean Annie lacks concern. We saw how Annie was struggling with her emotions when Reiner was forcing her to remove Marco's ODM gear. Annie's character is more like a warrior and not a nurse. That's just my opinion.

I've never really taken it as Jean snapping. He has a lot of aggression but he was willing to bottle it for the greater good. He gives in because Reiner doesn't just give him permission to, it's because Reiner is demanding it. Jean is an incredible leader, and part of Marco's only dialogue was to show why - because he understands people even at their worst/most cowardly moments. So he beats the shit out of Reiner. Reiner who has been suicidal for years because he knows he did terrible things and has to watch people treat him like a hero for it every day, misunderstood by everyone. Without punishment he can never atone for his sins. Jean just tried to deliver. To give him some punishment, some consequence - so he can finally start atoning for his sins.

Keep in mind, before her speech, Yelena was having her background exposed and her dreams ridiculed and reduced by Pieck as "saving the world with her prince". So Yelena's reaction wasn't just her giving perspective, she was bringing them back to Earth/giving them a taste of their own scrutiny. The same way Pieck mocked Yelena "saving the world" was the same way Yelena mocked the group's effort to "save the world" as being platitudes. That was why she wanted to "remind" them of their "sins". This whole scene was AoT distilling the cycle of violence into a conversation; the moral of which(from Yelena's part in the conversation) being in everyone's attempt to do something noble sounding as "saving the world" they inevitably end up causing harm to someone else who wasn't apart of "their" world, whether they remember/acknowledge this harm or not.

I think the “save the world” line out of context can be considered cringy. But when you look at the scene and see Reiner, and realize that this is the first time in Nine years that the Armored, Colossal, Jaw, and Female are all back together in the same room, and their mission is “to save the world,” which is what Reiner truly believed he was doing back in the day when they attacked the walls, and admitted so to Eren during Willy’s speech. Regarding the way Connie reacted when he saw Annie, laughing and making a joke, I think that's just how he deals with stress and trauma. A lot of people react that way. Remember when during S3P2 when the scouts faced the Collosal Titan as he blew up the whole town and Connie just randomly cracks a pun about Eren's house being burnt? Eren's about to destroy the rest of the world, Connie almost killed a child to save his mom, and now suddenly Annie, the main antagonist from the later part of S1 is back. Secondly, Annie saved Connie’s life in season 1, so he would see her a little bit differently than most. It was the 2 perfect characters for her to bump into. Jean told Floch not to shoot at civilians. It's not weird or "out of the blue" their inclination to cooperate. Think about how Mikasa and the rest treated Gabi. How Jean treated her in the blimp. Their motives for "hatred" were more recent and larger than Annie killing the Levi Squad, or Reiner killing a lot of their friends and family way back. They are understanding. Even Eren, when he is comfronting Reiner, he shows understanding to him, on a personal level. No reason for it to seem weird so far. Now, yes, conversation was needed and we got it this episode. The beginning of the episode with Jean thinking about Marco really got me in the feels. Jean has always been one of my favorite characters. He was really smug and full of himself when the show first started. But we've slowly seen him become someone who is willing to become a leader. He can't just give up and relax like Floch wanted him to. Because then he'd feel like he was disappointing Marco. Yelena: Oh? You want to call me out? That's cool. How about I pull out some receipts then? Also, people have been saying Floch only cares about power. But this episode kinda disproves that. If he really cared about being in charge, he could've just as easily sent someone he trusted to take his place. But him going to the front lines himself and potentially putting his life on the line shows how devoted he is to save Eldia. He's willing to be that Devil to ensure his people's safety. The Devil he saw in Erwin and Eren. But just like I can like both Reiner and Eren, I like both Jean and Floch as characters. Even if they're fighting on opposing sides right now.

Of all episodes that people disregarded or didn't like in the series, this one is by far the most interesting one. Dialogue-based, conflict, Yelena being a chaos entity, and Reiner being haunted by his actions. Yes, he deserved the beating from Jean. Also, Reiner said something that we kinda already knew back in S3. His split personality snaps from time to time to a point that he went after the titan that ate Marco as in revenge for something HE did. Wow.

Honestly, I kinda wanted a flashback of Reiner doing that. In the end of S3 he was all ready to kill them all and in the beginning of S4 he is all traumatized by guilt. I wanted to see the bridge between those sides of him, maybe when he got home to Liberio and everyone cheering for what he did, but he knows it wasn't right. I know this is all subtext and stuff, but I wanted to see that. Maybe in a future OVA?

They are showing the branches getting "less full" as they talk it out, as a metaphor for getting out of the forest. They start out very full. The conversation happening in the middle of a forest is no coincidence either. And the soup boiling is also simbolic.

The camera shots, jumping from random scenery from one to the other, kind of reminds me of the POV of having a long hard conversation with someone. If you're having a long conversation about important and personal things, revealing deeper truths about yourself, you often can't keep eye contact/look at the person's face all the time. You're eyes wander, keeping breathes of focus away from them as to not give pressure or to show thoughtfulness. At least for me that what it seems like.

This is my favorite episode on Final Season Part 2. It feels so raw. All of them finally talking without killing and going against each other. All of them acknowledging their mistakes. This is what they needed. To talk. But no one's ready for it because talking and acknowledging one's mistakes makes all their past actions invalidated. That's why they needed Armin a pacifist, he's been saying that since day one. Remember when they first knew about Eren being a Titan shifter? Armin tried to talk to those Garrison Corps before they shoot them with a cannonball. All along Armin, hoped that they could all talk about their differences. And here it is. I bet they didn't imagine that one day they could all sit in a bonfire and talk about their differences, why did this and that. It all boils down to them not even trying the peaceful means because they weren't used to it. That's one of the sad thing in a war.

In this episode, there were many depictions of forests, and many said that this was due to the animators holding down the budget, or that they were cutting corners. Maybe they used more depictions of the forest because one of the themes of this story is that it is important to keep trying to get out of the forest while that wars and troubles are compared to a forest... but those are a little too many.

And it's not like the warriors wanted to do something like what they did, they had to, literally just like Bertholdt said "who the well would want to kill people", Reiner literally wants to die and even Annie cried to the corpses in trost and was traumatized by Marco's, as shown in the lost girls ova where she had nightmares.

From this perspective the island too was an existential threat to the world because they didn't know when the wall Titans would be released. The world didn't know that Karl fritz wanted peace until Tybur told the truth at the production. Until then the world literally felt like they were hostages and if any day the king of the walls released the rumbling on a whim, their homelands will be trampled. Sadly the world's fears came true.

This notion of self defense would also extend to Eren's actions of the Rumbling. That's literally why the whole moral conundrum of the final arc exists... Also, Marley didn't think that Paradis was an existential threat to the world. In fact, the reason they attacked in the first place is because they knew it *wasn't,* due to the King's vow that Tybur knew about. Marley's actions absolutely were not in self defense.

"He didn't need to hit him that hard." Oh come on, he's a titan shifter. He can fully recover from something like that in a matter of minutes. Annie beat him up worse after Ymir ate Marcel and for a less compelling reason too. Since he was the one who came up with the plan to break the wall and let the titans into Shiganshina and convinced the others of his team to do it even though they didn't want to initially, Rainer is personally responsible for more then 250000 deathes and didn't just kill Marco, but did it in a needlessly cruel and painful way. This beating was the least he deserves. If you think about it he deserves punishment more than Zeke did when Levi pretty much mutilated him. The only difference between Zeke and Rainer in this regard is that Rainer feels more remorse, but he also did worse things than Zeke. Because ultimately Zeke at that point only ever attacked soldiers and never pretended to be a friend to his victims. Yes his spinal fluid was used to gas Conny's village, but that was done by the Marley military, not Zeke himself.

It's almost as if the fans can't recognize any amount of criticism over their beloved show without devolving into completely unsubstantiated theories to somehow make the writing not bad.

Quite the opposite actually, AoT “fans” will look for any minor details to complain about. Watch Filmbuff’s reaction. He’s one of the few to truly understand every detail about this story (these guys don’t).

Honestly not sure how KZread isn't taking these vids down. I mean it's honestly sickening watching ange destroy that guitar everytime. 🤙🏽

Seems like the reason they all can put differences aside is not only cause the world is ending but they’ve had 4 years too see both sides. The scouts know how the warriors were fed propaganda and while Annie has been in the crystal, she’s been aware of everything going on

Something to note about why they wouldn’t hate Reinert and Annie as much is that they did all train together for three years and become somewhat friends and they never really wanted to fight each other. They probably do hate them still, about killing a lot of their people, but being together for three straight years created a bond that would most likely be hard to break
