You could argue that, because of all of the famous actors and directors he helped start, Roger Corman might be the most important person in cinema history.

Those poor fish. The horrors they witnessed during the Atlantian Wars haunts them still.
A throwback to all the Roger Corman movies that everyone grew up watching.
When I saw this on TV as a child (raised Catholic) I was so terrified after a character got his hand severed in the cave I ran out of the room. It was several years before I finally saw the entire film. I am so embarrassed. It came out the year of my birth. And the "Professor" IS a scientist. I remember "This Island Earth." LOL.

I don't know much about him, why is he hated?
There has long been a bit of an unconfirmed urban legend that a young Jack Nicholson was one of the crew members "inside" the crab monster moving it around. The timing is about right (he worked for Corman as a crew member for short while before he got his first acting gig with him the following year). No clue how legitimate it is, but I've seen reputable sources both claim and dismiss it.

Love this movie. It’s a childhood favorite, since it aired constantly in the 70s. More classics from this period, The Monster That Challenged The World, Field Without A Face, Them!, The Black Scorpion, The Deadly Mantis, Earth vs The Spider and Tarantula.

Them! is a favorite of mine. It has the mood of a mystery.
I have always loved this movie. The ghost intelligence thing sets it apart from the others of the time and made the entire thing creepy and a bit surreal.
This was the first monster movie I ever watched and it started my love of them. I was 5 in 1965 and staying at my grandmothers house. She was switching channels (back when there were 4 to chose from) and tuned this on. When I saw the giant crab I asked her if I could watch it. She asked me if my parents allowed me to watch such movies and I remember lying and saying yes. I later felt catholic boy guilt about lying but loved the movie. Thanks for the fun review.
I love how the greatest threat posed by the giant crab is how sneaky they are.
Excellent Episode! I loved 50s B Movies on late night tv as a kid. Your riffs have that great vintage MST3K flavor!

There are 2 famous lines I recall from 50s B movies 1) "It's crazy, it's so crazy, it ... just ... might ... work" and 2) "If only he had used his powers for good, instead of evil!" :-)
Yes! I was hoping you'd get around to 50's scifi and monster flix. Look forward to many more.
Crab monsters, crab monsters. Look like crabs, act like monsters, crab monsters... I knew the reference was coming and I was ready! I love this movie, one of... the? Sure, I'll go with "the"... the movies he ever made.
I LOVE that you have now turned your attention to '50s monster movies! There's a whole LOT of those to cover. Just from Roger Corman's catalogue alone! Not to mention the others.

That Batman v Superman reference is completely earned and somehow fits nicely on a Corman film. hahahahaha "Martha, WHY DID YOU SAY THAT NAME?" and by the way, these Mutant Crabs are like talking big-eyed cheap looking Mirelurcks hahahahahaha, so now I can see that maybe some of the developers might be a fan of Corman films and giant creature films alike.

Thanks for doing a review of this film, Cecil. It is one of my favorite "guilty pleasure" films. It's rare to find a film that is both suspenseful and hilarious. I think Attack of The Crab Monsters would make for a great film to remake. The premise has some creepy elements, like is the island actually haunted by the previous scientists. The monsters are also intelligent, using both deceptions to target the humans and also causing the island to shrink. Don't get me wrong. It's a great film to poke fun at and I loved the commentary you did on the video. It's just got so much story potential too for a modern remake.
YAY !! Thanks for covering some classic black and white schlock fests 😎
It's nice to be home from work so I can get an early look at a post from this great channel.
