Ғылым және технология
Our theme for TEDxDelMar 2011 was "A Search For A Cure" and in this talk, Dr. Von Herrath gives us his presentation entitled "Attack of the Beta Cells".
Matthias Von Herrath, M.D., is Professor for Immunology and Director of the Center for Type 1 Diabetes Research at La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology, one of the world's premier Immunology Institutes. He received his medical training in Freiburg Germany and conducted research on viral infections for 10 years at Scripps Research, where he trained with Michael Oldstone from 1991 -- 1995. The center of his research focus is the development of suitable combination therapies for type 1 diabetes and the development of preventive vaccines, with the goal to ultimately pave the path for a primary prevention of T1D. For his studies he received the Outstanding Scientific Achievement Award from the ADA in 2008 and a Scholar Award from JDRF.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
