Attachment and resilience -- the power of one: Dr. Erica Liu Wollin at TEDxHongKong 2013

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

'We were designed to relate, to be connected to one another. To love and to be loved.' Beautiful words I am only now late in life realising.

Beautiful talk! It inspires me to remember how much influence I have over my nieces just through the power of love and modeling resilience myself. Thank you!

As the son of a very dysfunctional mother, I can affirm, we as children have to battle with lifelong scars of poor parenting.

However it’s said that once we transcend that from a place of acceptance and understanding, we’re much stronger then those who never endured the emotional and physical battles we have. It really is a blessing in disguise

Yes...and a very painful process for the child to reset this early lack of attachment in later life if they are lucky enough to find a skilled enough practitioner to help them. I was in care for my 1st 9 months then adopted into a chaotic environment where let's just say that things happened which definitely shouldn't have. A whole lot of work is involved to undo this yet it's a humbling and amazing experience to move through. Life beckons. 🌈

sukhmanicambridge: Such a relief to know the early lack of attachment can be ‘undone’: i am not at all certain what this looks like, but desperately need these answers. Thank you.
