No one wanted to talk about why they live in Monaco... Rune, in a danish article, once stated that its "because ATP has a hq there" and that "so there's always someone to practice with" like bro just say its because of taxes... we would all have done it if we played at that level

Some explanations I've heard about grunting: (1) it helps players breathe properly and thus get enough oxygen, stops them from holding their breath; (2) it's an intimidation tactic; (3) it muffles the sound of the ball hitting the strings, so, in theory, it's more difficult to tell if the ball was hit flat or with a lot of spin; (4) it deceives opponents into thinking it will be a heavy ball even when the stroke was not hit with much force; (5) it distracts/frustrates opponents (6) according to a recent studiy, players that grunt hit the ball marginally harder than those who don't. To be honest, I don't think any of the above gives a particular advantage, and "grunters" would argue that it's an unconscious habit that they can't control. Personally, I don't mind it.

Why DO tennis players grunt? I'm clearly old because I can remember a time when they didn't (most of them anyway), but now it sounds a bit like recording adult movies. There must be a good reason for it, because to be able to watch Sabalenka or Alcaraz, I have to turn off the sound to be able to enjoy their incredible skill.

I think that was Casper's polite way of saying it is a sport for people who wish they could play tennis but don't have the capability (potentially physical limitations/age) or skill. You always want to be like your older brother.
