    Nice work! I´ve got a question regarding the air assist: The link shows an air assist noozle for the older laser modules like A5 / A5 pro, on which the lens is not covered by aluminum on the left and right hand side but by the filter plastic. On this modules it´s easy to replace the filters against the noozle. But you are using the new 50W laser module with just the front side open for the filter. How did you do the air assist on this? Did you have to drill into the aluminum?

    Yes, I did drill the aluminum housing at the base of the laser to accommodate the air assist nozzle along with tapping two holes for machine screws to mount it. Yes, this voids the warranty! However, this works perfectly and I have not had to worry about cleaning the laser lens near as often since the air flow keeps smoke away from the lens and clears it out from the base very quickly.

    @@rogersshop Thank you for the answer. It would be very interesting to see the details. It looks to me like the best solution for Air assist on this laser module!

    I don't recall the exact length, but it will become obvious when you lay it out as to what is going to work. I used this drag chain: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09...

    Hey, and Hello from Germany, one Question, did you Upgrade the Laser with Endstops?

  • @rogersshop

    @rogersshop

    2 жыл бұрын

    No. Thought about it, but since all of my projects start from center and never approach the max size of the laser, I didn't feel the need.

    I noticed that the mounting feet were different colors. Are all 4 the same, or did you run out of one color?

  • @rogersshop

    I used three different 3d printers and each had a different color. (I was in a hurry). 2 are black, one is green, and one is blue. Otherwise, all four are the same.

    I apologize if this is a dumb question or one that has been addressed before in another video. Why did you add the air pump?

  • @rogersshop

    @rogersshop

    2 жыл бұрын

    Not a dumb question. The air pump was added for what is called "Air-Assist" and is connected to the 3D printed nozzle on the laser head. Air assist is very useful on both engraving and cutting.

    Hi, Nice video, very instructive! Just bougth an A5 Pro 40W so all info I can find is helpful :) I think I'll probably just buy the Atomstack air assist ... doesn't seem I'd really save all that much with a DIY and the air would then shoot straight down from around the laser itself if I understand the description on the webpage (any comments appreciated!) Also, like the grid very much. I'm actually considering getting the Ortur honeycomb instead of the Atomstack (since it explictly says it comes with an aluminum tray, while the Atom is rather ambiguous ... do you know?) so that would actually fit perfect :) HOWEVER .... Q: I see you are not wearing the safety glasses (Atomstack provided or otherwise) ... so you feel comfortable with the laser protective covers? All the warnings from various forums have been making me nervous. Any info on this you can provide would be helpful! I'm a total newbie to any kind of machine 'printing' like this, so very much in learning stage and concerned. TIA! dvc

    The side of the laser I am on during the video blocks the laser beam from view. It can only be seen from the front, where the shield is. If I'm looking at the beam, I wear goggles. My air assist points direct at the cut point and did take some tweaking to get it right. I made my own honeycomb base out of a cookie sheet and plaster lath. I seldom do any cutting, but it works just fine when I do. There is a video on my channel covering that.

    @@rogersshop Thanks! I'll look for that vid ... didn't see it, but perhaps didn't look deep enough :) Plaster soundsl like an interesting solution. Many I've seen like to use magnets to hold things down ... I assume you don't do this? That's another plus, it seems, for the Ortur honeycomb (again, not sure about the Atomstack, but certainly not plaster unless you introduce iron shavings?)

    @@davidvancamp7036 kzread.info/dash/bejne/d6Rk1JWyf9TOgKQ.html is the video. The steel plaster lath comes in pretty large sheets, so you have a lot of spare material for future use. I do not use magnets since nothing moves other than the overhead gantry.

    The unit does not have home switches. You would need to add them and change the setting in your laser engraver if the homing was not enabled. There are several videos on adding switches to your unit

    Better, no. Cheaper, yes. The Atomstack does not have limits or auto homing built in. That is something that would need to be added after-the-fact. I have both and will do a comparison sometime in the future.
