You can see she's actually a somewhat caring character. When Milo is reading from the book, she leans over his shoulder and listens to him, looking actually interested in what he has to say and when the sub goes down and they're all in the cave she looks legitimately distraught and saddened by all the loss of life. Also, when she learns Atlantis is populated she has very clear reservations about continuing the mission because she doesn't want to hurt more people. It seems at that point the only thing keeping her on the mission is likely Rourke's constant reminder of riches and his pressure to keep going.

I actually had pity on her. She hesitated when she learns that Atlantis is a thriving community. She isn't evil because she is "evil", she's driven with money, and loyalty. Proven when she felt betrayed when Rourke threw her off the ship. She is loyal to her team - shown when she aided Milo, Aubrey, and Sweet when escaping the submarine, she also look devastated knowing a lot from her team had died from the Leviathan..

Even though Helga didn’t have that much screen time I remember her the most out of the supporting cast. I like that she wasn’t fully bad. It showed that she genuinely had regrets and questioning her decisions. Had chances to do the right thing until it was too late. Granted it is impressive that she survived the fall and not get hit by those blades, unlike Rourke. I know it’s technically confirmed that the lava got her, but if the series had gone through they’d probably would’ve had a reveal that she survived somehow with a redemption arc.

I agree with@@greatcesari, I think it was good she DIDN'T get a redemption ark because she already got so many chances of doing right and still chose money. That is how bad people are in real life. A hitman that works for drug dealers probably has children that they love and care; that doesn't excempt them from the fact that they have ruined other families. These kind of characters are what made this movie amazing, they feel real, even if it's in a way we don't like.

I actually wish they didn’t kill Helga in the end. Although it is ambiguous whenever she died of her injuries or the lava encasing her, it was likely the former. She fell from a great height and it is implied she hit the ground quite hard. Judging how she reacts in pain she suffered internal bleeding, fractured ribs, and other fatal injuries. If you look carefully her eyes roll back implying she was dying. My guess is because she still went through with killing off innocent people just to gain money and didn’t show remorse though she originally hesitated and the fact she was the secondary antagonist. Would had loved to have seen her redeem and be friends with Milo.

The reason her animation is so fluid and better design wise, was because she was specifically created/animated at a seperate disney branch in France, while the rest of the characters and movie was made in Burbannk, CA. Oddly enough, the VA for Helga, Claudia Christian, thought her career was over when the movie bombed. However, a few years later she would go on to voice a quarter of a population in a land that is, canonically, the size of Poland.

Fun fact about Helga's death scene: In an interview, the lead writer Tab Murphy stated that the original plan was to have Helga escape from being crushed by the zeppelin and live happily with the rest of the cast. However, this plan was changed, Helga did not die from the fall, but she died due to being unable to move to avoid the falling zeppelin. This was not because of her injuries, but due to the heavy weight of her balls. Metaphorically speaking, of course. You read this entire thing, didn't you? Well I lied. None of that was said. But Helga still has the biggest balls of the entire Atlantis cast, despite not having any.
