There is no statement as to why the police were at the door. There is no statement that the victim committed any crime. It is not illegal to have your gun in you hand when you open YOUR home door. There is likely more to this story. The officer's camera should tell the tale. If the body cam tape is not available, we have a problem! No reason to delay the release of the body cam tape and possibly cause the PD to lose credibility. Due to the circumstances, the tapes must be reviewed.

I think another article said they were called for domestic dispute. I don't think the officer would be able to enter the home or open the door. The video makes it look like the victim wasn't even close to the door. Cops shouldn't be opening doors to the home, not sure how that is legal.

This family was so proud of this young man and they have every reason to be. It’s such an unfortunate thing to happen. I pray that justice works its way to the surface and it isn’t simply swept under the rug so to speak.

Jumpy cops, same county where the acorn cop shot up the police car with a handcuffed prisoner inside. The victim answered the door with his weapon in his right hand pointed down-nonthreatening manner and his left hand up, palm facing foward jestering stop or slow down. Victim was legal to carry a firearm in a nonthreatening manner in his own house.

The deputy used the wrong approach to identify himself. You don't just knock on the door and then step away, out of the view of the door's peephole. Anyone inside would have thought this is the prelude to a home invasion. The wrong address has nothing to do with the airman's murder but the conduct of the deputy did!

Never say you’re terrified. But you’re right that most police are not respectable. Very few are. This department is frightened of acorns. This department has an issue with cowardice in the ranks, a lack of maturity in the ranks, AND a lack of sound tactical judgement in the ranks. The young man was perfectly authorized as an American to be armed in his home.

The photo is inconclusive, but if the officer told him to drop it and he hesitated even for a split second, cops aren't gonna mess around. Pure speculation on my part, but it looks like his hand is raised in response to an order to drop the gun and police know he can raise his weapon in an instant. If police are at the door, don't open with a gun in your hand. If you think it's a criminal posing as police, don't open the door.

If I’m at home no cop is going to order me to disarm. I don’t carry a firearm anywhere it’s inappropriate, so no where I carry it will I be told to relinquish it. Not ever. Not going to happen. And no one should open the door to police. Remember, too, that these frightened little infants are from the same department as the recent acorn incident. That was only a few weeks ago. It should be clear to everyone that this department has serious problems with maturity and tactical judgement. I’m retired from the military this breaks my heart. The woman who met the officer gave the wrong apartment number, because she said a woman called and sounded really scarred. Why did she give an apartment number if she wasnt sure where the disturbance was? There was no disturbance so why didnt the office go back to the office to get the correct unit number?

This is what I don't understand. This woman said that she had walked by said apartment the other day and heard fighting. How did she walk by this young man's apartment unless she continued walking, climbed over that railing and jumped because his apartment is at the end of the walkway. Somebody messed up and it's not this young man. Florida can't say that everyone can have a legal gun and then allow law enforcement to shoot you down when you indeed own a legal gun. This is just terrible all around. I feel so badly for his Mom. 😢

He went to the door a woman told him she heard someone fighting. But she also said she wasn't exactly sure what apartment. So that made it the wrong door.

This is not the whole video and is shown in reverse. The second knock in the video was actually the first. The sheriff knocks, hides first and then did not say anything for 31 seconds. Airman 16 seconds after the first knock yells "Who is it" Sherriff says nothing for an additional 15 seconds. Then the second knock comes with announcement. He did not announce himself with the first knock for 31 seconds and then didnt answer when the Airman asked who it was. What would any reasonable person think if you hear a bang at the door. Look and see noone, ask who is it with no response for a whole 31 seconds? The girlfriend confirms after he said who is it with no view and no response he grabbed his gun. The girlfriend heard the Airman ask who is it over the facetime call, the body cam picked up him saying it so why did the Officer not say anything?

What happened is unconscionable. Who gives a frick if the young soldier had a weapon? That was his RIGHT. DE-ESCALATION is the appropriate pathway, not death. I lived off of Racetrack for years, due to MY husband being in AF special ops. At the time, I was alone a great deal due to tdy's. The whole area was rather dodgy. I wouldn't open my door to anyone after dark, and I always had my husband's .45 with me in the townhouse. Does that mean I should have been shot? Of course not. How ludicrous things have become.

It's not illegal to open the door with a gun. It also could've saved a life to ask for clarification, call 911 to confirm, and announce you have a gun before opening the door. But Americans are too prideful and individualistic to do such stuff.

Gun in hand, not in holster. Cop's mindset is responding to domestic violence call not a noise complaint. If you are delivering pizza, the guy opens the door with a gun in his hand versus a gun in a holster? What is your reaction? fight or flight or freeze? You don't answer the door with a gun in your hand unless you are going to use it. If you want to scare someone with your gun, you should have an outside the waistband holster. Cops do not walk around with a gun in their hand, it is usually holstered. You can legally buy a gun, but you also need education. It is unfortunate, but hopefully, people learn from this Airman.

Yes. Ppl lie to rob you. He couldn't see them in peep hole and some Karen called about a possible argument. Literally no reason for cops to be there and even think anyone was aggressive. He overreacted and killed him.

No sympathy!! If it was a domestic vIolence csll , he had a gun in his hand, what is the officer supposed to do? Quit being violent and you won't find yourself in those situations.

That cop is in big trouble. Dropping someone in their own home is hard to explain away. Violently banging on someone door and yelling is no way to treat a tax paying citizen. Exigent circumstance with zero supporting evidence will be tough. The lesson, do not open your door it maybe your last thing you ever do.
