Catalina Ponor really did have it all - power, charisma, natural dance ability, good technique, and physical beauty. With the scores she put up on beam and floor, I would have loved to have seen her in the AA. I bet she could have done well enough to overcome a weak bar score and grab a medal.

Catalina is literally perfect

there was a time when we were doing magic on this sport. now...i dont know.. is shocking even for us romanians. lets hope the new team that will be builded will be again on a high level as before

what a great performance for Romania, a small country with 20 millions people...comparing with these huge nations like U.S., China or Russia. in 2012, there are 40 years since Romanian team won medals of every Olympics.

Since 1972? I thought they started earlier... No? nadya Comaniech was the Romanian SuperStar then, right? After that Silivaz, Milosevich, Amanar, Raducan, Ponor, and the list goes on on and on...

Notice how quiet the American commentators are when the Romanians are on the floor and doing 200% better than the USA.

oana's tumbling is so amazing :D all four of her passes are amazing.

I was happy that Romania won in 2000 AND 2004. The one thing I liked about the 2004 team was that these were all new girls who hadn't really been heard of before unlike 2000 team which had Amanar and Olaru who were well known. 2000 team were steady and consistant however, with the exception of Raducan they weren't noted as elegant. The 2004 Romanian team were ELEGANT and BEAUTIFUL (Ponor,Eremia,Sofronie) and had polish. They were definitely ON FIRE and won this Gold hands down!!

I absolutely love Oana's routine. She can certainly tumble, and I also think that the audience has more fun watching a routine when the music is a song they can recognize (Oana's music was "Conga" by Gloria Estefan).

People can say that n 1984 the romanian team wouldn't have won gold if the soviet union hadn't boycottet the olympics, which may be true. People can say that in 2000 the romanian team wouldn't have won gold if the Russians had done what they were capable of, which may be true as well. But no one can say anything about their gold medal in 2004. This team was simply the best in the competition, no one else came even close.

I agree, in my opinion the 2004 romanian team was just better than the american but in 2008 the russians had potential to score better score but they had meltdowns where the romanians stayed on. I don't remember seeing a romanian falling in olympic team finals since ever

When I first watched the Olympics when I was thirteen, I was Team USA all the way. Now that I'm watching it from a neutral point of view, I'm extremely impressed with both Russia and Romania, Romania in particular. They were just so consistent.

The only major two U.S mistakes Carly on bars cost them .3 and Kupets on floor cost them .2. That is only .5 and they lost to the U.S by .7. If you want to nitpick with small mistakes both teams had them. So yes Romania was the best team.

I think Sofronie was so cute after her floor exercise. Waving at the camera and relived that it was all over and that a Gold medal was about to be hung around her neck - I wonder where she is now. Such an elegant floor worker too.

the thing is that they cried enough when Catalina finished her exercise..All of them! :D Probably you should watch again at this ..but a lil' bit more carefully.. :)

It's so exciting to see Romania win! Gooo Romania!!! I wish they pull all their strength so they give a good fight next year, showing that they can be the best again!

Aurelia Dobre was something really special a beautiful appearance with gorgeous lines and a stunning technic but was i always found striking from her was the flow and easiness of her routines

I've been looking around for the Beijing gymnastics coverage and stumbled onto your upload of the coverage from Athens which I really appreciate cos I missed it at the time. I got so excited that NBC had some gymnastics clips only to learn it could only be seen in the US. I wouldn't mind seeing the Beijing coverage again, gymnastics at Beijing was simply superb. Thanks for this upload, and the individuals.

It's who's best on that day when it counts, doesn't EVER matter what could have been. There's definitely something to be said for consistency among the Romanians. Love them :)

2:26: Such sportsmanship from the American team! I love that they're clapping along..you didn't see that in 08' or 12'

They were not clapping along that was Russia. They did however come by to say congrats at the end. Go to 8:50 to see how USA felt for losing gold

Veo esto y aún me parece increíble que el equipo de gimnasia de Rumanía no logró calificar a las Olimpiadas de Río 2016... Y más triste porque Catalina Ponor se quería despedir de la gimnasia del alta competición con esta olimpiada...

Yo también soy fan de Catalina Ponor, me enamoró su participación en Atenas. Lástima que ahora no logró participar con todo ese encanto en Río. Tenía los elementos para ganar Bronce en viga de equilibrio, pero hizo una pobre actuación. Aún así es grande!

Oana Ban did qualify ( i think third or fourth highest) but was pulled out due to an ankle injury They even say it on the AA finals which you can find on here.

You know what? The US should have been smiling instead of moping around like they finished last place! Silver is amazing as well as bronze! Its great to be at the olympic games PERIDOD. Romania had oustanding performances and truthfully, I enjoyd their gymnastics. If you noticed in Beijing, they were a little dissapointed but when they got their metals they were beaming on the podium! They performed great, so did China and Romania. Carly seemed to have a little attitude at the end.

She showed it at 6:09 I love Oana and her leaps! She had best ones back then.

I have to admit: I was totally cheering for Carly in the AA.. but on the interview at the last part and on David Letterman she just proved to be a sore loser.. Honestly, Courtney's answer was so respectful and humble, and Carly's was just eh. Funny how Courtney was injured and didn't complain, and when Carly's mistakes where mentioned she said "I just missed on the UB".. what about the vault sweetie?

am I the only one that thinks the U.S.'s music is horrible and annoying? The Romanians were totally awesome! They totally deserved that gold medal. It's a shame that the u.s. were such sore losers. Oh and am I the only one that gets teary eyed watching Svetlana on floor?

I wonder what Khorkina said to Carly. I love that part at the end where the top 3 teams join together.

I think it's very telling that Courtney M and Tarin were the first members of the USA team to approach and congratulate the Romanians, they always seemed like such good competitors and good sports.

Yes, they are taught,(as any good roundoff should be) to get the twist in before the hands go down, if you get me.

I love how at 3:58, they show a crying Russian, who seems to be very disappointed and say they are still dealing with the joy of medalling :P

I agree, everyone had small mistakes here and there but that's just inevitable, even for the most consistent team on the world.

Belu's got the MAGIC, Romania's got the GOLD. And Belu has returned back from retirement along with Bitang to coach the Romanian WAG team last week, Forminite quit. So maybe in 2012 this will be Romania again.

she really was 16 at that moment and turned 17 during the olympics. she was already 17 in the event finals-beam and floor where she competed.

The orchestration for the Romanian National Anthem wa MUCH better here than it was in 2000. In 2000 is sounded like MIDI horns. LOL.

I love watching this, the good yrs of Rom gym :) especially Carly's reaction tee hee hee, I also think nastia is a much nicer AA champion

they took 3 golds in EF, though. None of them were really strong all-rounders, but as a team, they were amazing!!

@kyle887923 I think the problem with the USA in 2008 was that their gymnasts were all arounders. China had 2 girls who only did one event (HKX and LSS). and just 2 AAers, who only competed 2 events each. Because China had more specialists in 6-3-3, they had a strong advantage, whereas the USA could dominate the AA. I think the USA has such strong AA-ers because gymnastics there is individually competitive, where you have to be an AA gymnast to be recognized.

@threefootroo Yeah your right. A LOT of gymnasts would LOVE to be there, but I think they were dissapointed in themselves because they KNEW they could due better and I think if they performed better with out without the gold they would of been happier. :)

Thank you!!! Good Lord, of course losing the gold would disappoint someone! If they'd been smiling and cheerful, someone else would be slamming them for not being "intense enough" and blaming their attitude for their loss. All ridiculous. Both the Romanians and US should be congratulated, both had a terrific meet and the Romanians deserved to win. And the US knew that. They weren't being poor sports, they were just disappointed that they lost and that''s completely understandable.

oana ban qualified for the all around with a bigger score than sofronie. due to her injury, romania had only one competitor in the all around. she couldn't be replaced because no other romanian did all the 4 events in the qualifications.

If chellsie and holly had went to Athens I would be agree, but you forgot that Ponor always score higher than Carly 0n vt bb and floor, and that Sofronie scored on ub a 9.637or something at the AA, get over it, Romania had won anyways. But i had put Terin instead of courtney on floor too
