    Man, Phelps really started it off right, building up a momentum for a massive bars rotation.

    And she fell in warmups just before they marched out -- she was super nervous. But she came through big time!

    I love how jaycie is already hitting her handstands, when most of the competitors were still pulling them up short. it still looks like a completely modern bar routine. really incredible.

    I hate the format now for team finals. I love that the four best teams had to march out and present like at 3:53 and all the teams were on separate events all at the same time. Sure it was a broadcasting nightmare, but it was also so much more dramatic.

    To all the athletes in not only gymnastics but every Olympic sport. I really am very happy and proud of all of you. Even though a lot of athletes in the Olympic games will not get a medal, I admire all of you athletes. It takes a lot of heart,determination and hard work to get to the Olympics. I really do hope and wish all of the athletes nothing but the very best in both the games and in life.

    Don't be mistaken. The reason this group was more of a "team" than anyone else was because of Amanda. Amanda Borden was the unanimous choice for Captain and the glue of that team. Being a great leader isn't about who has the most talent...

    Armen Saryan agreed. Dawes has been interviewed many times saying how Borden talked her through her nerves. Maybe she should have been on the floor for Dawes during the AA! She was a great leader.

    @I. Wynn Wynn It seems from watching footage that Bela was more concerned about the individual than the team, Marta more the team than the individual. Bela does get quite excited when he is with his "star of the moment:. I wouldn't say they were evil people, but it was apparent that it was more about winning to them and not the well-being of the athletes. Perhaps if they had had different priorities, the team might not have done so well but they would not have emerged quite so battle-scarred, physically and emotionally.

    I don't see anyone arguing with you, but your comment was very informative about Amanda. I personally thought her floor routine was more cohesive with the music than any of the others' floor routines. Maybe she was the Aly Raisman of her time, if you'll forgive the comparison (I'm not a gymnast, I just enjoy watching the competitions on TV)

    @@scottw9318 I believe that you are right. They were both excellent on floor and captained their teams to gold meddles not to mention calming their teammates down kinda like Alicia Sacremonie at the 2007 Worlds.

    Kerri was amazing here. I like her form a lot! Great shapes and posture, she really did it here, up until this her name was never mentioned without Kim Zmeskal in front of it, but she stood out here. Shannon and Gina Gogean wonderful as well

    I think once they started the camp system the team came together a lot more. They were around each other all of the time, so they were able to build friendships.

  • @jeffy5482

    It was a different time in USA Gymnastics. There was no camp situation like there is now and although all the girls knew each other for sure, I doubt they would really be considered friends. Think about Amy Chow for a minute. She was the one who really was the outsider. Never really in a lot of int'l meets and only had her coaches behind the wall.

    @mka800 She was the first one up for the US, not just on bars, but for the entire night. Amanda was not preforming on bars, so she could "relax" until beam. Perhaps the other girls were, gee, I don't know...warming up? Staying loose?

  • @jeffy5482

  • @dmann3g

    @beffyblb Thats a new tactic..not the way they did it in 96. Back then they went in order, generally, of who could build on the previous score.

  • @mercuryfever392
    @mercuryfever3924 жыл бұрын

    Is it me or does anyone else get ticked off that Kerri did that second vault? It's not so much about the vault as it is the fact that these gymnasts were in a system that didn't care about them as people.

  • @beffyblb
    @beffyblb12 жыл бұрын

    @dmann3g Actually, they comment multiple times during these games about setting up the order just as I said. That was exactly what they did during these games.

    If you really think about it, none of the teams that the Americans have put on a podium have really been a "team," as you call it. They might have been close before 1984 because they never won any type of meet, therefore they weren't completely cocky. But aside from that, the American teams have been teams of individuals with their complete focus on the AA and EFs. Just my opinion, though.

    @fr3ckles Usually they put a stronger gymnast up first, followed by the weakest one on that event. The hope is that the weaker gymnast will get the boost from going after the stronger gymnast. It's actually a compliment to Jaycie, not Kerri.

  • @MTVMANN
    @MTVMANN17 жыл бұрын

    Jaycie Phelps and Amy Chow was no where to be seen in the ending of the opening which stated "There are the face of the 7 american girls......". IMO, that is such a careless mistake. I mean, dang just show a little clip because they had LOTS of footage!

    Thx for the info....I was starting to think that SM was married to a plastic surgeon, then an optician,then a hairdresser,followed by a motivational speaker.....you couldnt recognise her from when she competed....on a slightly diff subject any idea why all these girls spoke with squeeky voices?? cos ive seen an int with MLR just now when she was young and she sounded normal...I know they were young but Strug sounds like she had helium for supper and she was 18!!

Thx

    youve read more than me on this obviously...though your right, I sense Miller was a bit affectionately removed to say the least...it seems to me when she was competing and kept under SN's thumb she was a bit of a introvert...fast forward 10yrs and after some PS...shes doing interviews and is unrecognisable!!!!!!! of course DM was precocious and may have acted like she thought she was chocolate.......'some' of this could be blamed on her parents and karolyi maybe??

    I dont know why you have 3 thumbs down to your comment Malibusarah considering you speak the truth...could they be American thumbs down??? yes the american girls shoulder touches....cos they werent hugs....look totally false, theres no realness in them, they dont kiss or actually embrace as such its like "i dont really want to touch you but i gotta do this, theres cameras here" I sense ill feeling between them here aswell....Shannon Miller and DM dont look like they get on!!!
