@gymnastics46 Maybe you should ask the non-Soviet gymnasts who competed in '80 what that experience was like--competing against a home team who enjoyed overwhelming support from the crowd and ended up winning the team gold, as well as numerous other golds. Must've been rough for them as well. The noise is part of competing. These athletes are trained to shut that out. They can deal with it, the rest of us should as well.

I love this competition, but the noise level was unfair for the other countries. Atlanta is basically in the middle of nowhere when you consider fans traveling internationally to watch their athletes, so it must have been largely only American fans. In comparison to a competition in Europe, where fans from dozens of countries can easily come watch. Announcements should have been made to keep the noise level respectful to other competitors. Milosovich couldn't even hear her music start.

They are USA fans, so they were cheering the fact that Kerri Strug just sealed the first ever US team gold medal in a fully attending Olympics. What we didn't know then was that it was already sealed and technically she didn't have to do that vault. Glad she did it.

Cool with Russia doping. Not cool with Simone even though Simone is so dominant she’s drug tested constantly. 2016 Olympics leading up to it she was tested multiple times a week. She also had the world medal count record and when she retired she said no one is good enough to beat it. Simone did then she said the dope stuff out of jealousy. But still. I watched the BBC's live broadcast of this. NBC edited the last rotation so much, that they made it appear as if the Russians could not hear their floor music while competing, which was not completely true. When I saw how much NBC manipulated the sequence of events, I was disgusted. Watching the BBC broadcast was like watching a totally different 4th rotation.

They did edit the rotation, but if you watch the videos i believe USA gymnastics took (dont quote me on that) which are quite grainy and show all of the routines from the competition for each team, you can see that it was kochetkova whk was performing right after Strug vaulted. I don't know if her routine was broadcasted on any network but you can certainly infer that she had difficulty hearing her music. I don't know why NBC insisted it was Galieva who couldn't hear her floor music because of strug's Vault, she performed in the aftermath of the vault when it was much quieter. NBC did edit out quite a bit of time between strugs' vault and the medal ceremony.

+Matthew “Lorenzo” Sam actually, if Kerri had not gone, team us as total would be 388.713. So they still would have beaten Russia. But that's bc Kochetkova and Galieva who both went after strug vaulted did mediocre routines. if they had both scored in the mid to high 9.8 range they would have gained enough points on USA to win gold. Kerri has acknowledged in interviews kno ing the Russians still had two athletes yet to perform on floor and not wanting to give them any chance to steal the gold away.

Gosh, why are there always nerds to take it personally? The Romanians weren`t the best back in 96 and I know that; besides, I don`t remember saying anything about the competition being fixed. I just found the Russians more artistic. But before saying that intelligent thing about the Romanians, think about the fact that they had lost one of their best athletes. And, no matter how blind you are about this one, the crowd SUCKED big time in Atlanta, sorry to hurt your pride.

The crowd noise was deafening. I remember the Beiijing Olympics being almost as bad. Shame on both countries!
